A Customized Cleaning Agent for the Maintenance of Electric Fume Collector Used for the Purification of Effluent Gas from the Textile Industry (섬유산업 배기가스 정화용 Electric Fume Collector 설비의 유지보수를 위한 맞춤형 세정제)

  • A customized cleaning agent was investigated for improving the performance decreased by the pollution of collecting plates in an electric fume collector (EFC) which was developed and applied for the purification of effluent gas including oil mist from the textile industry. The pollutants on the surface of collecting plates were blackened by the condensation of oil mist for a long time and difficult to remove by general cleaning agents. The composition of an optimized cleaning agent consisted of alkali, alcohol, glycol and non-ionic surfactant sources was determined by considering the pollutant properties and effect on the damage of the basic metal of collecting plate and so on. The developed cleaning agent solution diluted by 9.1% was applied to the field test, and also the pollutants strongly adhered on collecting plate surfaces were successfully removed by a simple spraying method. The effluent gas purification efficiency of EFC increased significantly by cleaning of collecting plates.

Evaluation on Tensile Properties and Fracture Toughness of Glass Fiber/Aluminum Hybrid Laminates (유리섬유/알루미늄 혼성 적층판의 인장특성과 파괴인성 평가)

  • Tensile properties and fracture toughness of monolithic aluminum, fiber reinforced plastics and glass fiber/aluminum hybrid laminates under tensile loads have been investigated using plain coupon and single-edge-notched specimens. Elastic modulus and ultimate tensile strength of GFMLs showed different characteristic behaviors according to the Al kind, fiber orientation and composition ratio. Fracture, toughness of A-GFML-UD which was determined by the evaluation of $K_{IC}$ and $G_{IC}$ based on critical load was similar to that of GFRP-UD and was much higher than monolithic Al. Therefore, A-GFML-UD presented superior fracture toughness as well as prominent damage tolerance in comparison to its constituent Al. By separating Al sheet from GFMLs after the test, optical microscope observation of fracture zone of GFRP layer in the vicinity of crack tip revealed that crack advance of GFMLs depended on the orientation of fiber layer as well as Al/fiber composition ratio.

  • To examine the compression properties of structural members, the compression and bearing tests were conducted in parallel- and perpendicular-to-grain loading using domestic Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carriere). Compression (bearing) properties with the length of a specimen and the contact length of the bearing plate were investigated, and deformations at each specimen length from the point of bearing force were measured to evaluate the effective end distance tabulated in the present practice (Korean Building Code). Compression (bearing) properties varied with the size of the bearing plate, and the end distance for dowel-type fastener taken into consideration of the specimen's deformation, for the safe design, should be applied with over 7 D.

  • The properties of FRP(fiber-reinforced plastics) depend not only on the characteristics of the matrix but also on the structure of fiber mat and the fiber type of reinforcement. Therefore it is very important to study the characteristics of reinforcement and matrix. In this paper, a method is proposed which can be used to measure the mean coeffcient of separation for the press molding of FRP, and the mean equivalent coefficient of separation is obtained from the separation coefficient. And the relationship between the mean equivalent coefficient of separation and the structure of fiber mat is discussed. The effects of corrlelation coefficient between separation and orientation on the mean equivalent coefficient are also presented.

Evaluation on Structural Performance of Precast Bridge Deck Joint using HSFRC (고강도 강섬유보강콘크리트를 적용한 프리캐스트 바닥판 이음부의 구조성능 평가)

  • In precast deck system, structural performance and serviceability are mostly determined by the connection methods between the precast decks. This study proposes precast deck system with asymmetric ribbed connection details using High Strength Fiber Reinforced Concrete(HSFRC) with filler. To verify the proposed method, the flexural performance experiment was carried out with variation of joint cross section type and splice rebar details. From the test results, regardless of joint details, spliced tensile rebars of specimens were deformed to yielding strain level. Also, all types of specimens resulted in sufficient flexural performance. These test results show that the minimum lap splice length specified in current Korea Highway Bridge Design Code is conservative for precast deck joint using HSFRC. Therefore, splice details can be simplified and joint width can be reduced by using HSFRC with filler between the precast decks, and the proposed precast deck systems can be applied to the connection part of precast decks effectively.

  • Endomyocardial fibrosis(EMF) is an unusual type of cardiomyopathy characterized by a restriction to the ventricular filling and an obliteration of the inflow portion in the ventricular cavity by a fibrosis and often by a thrombus formation. The atrioventricular valve may be involved, resulting in an atrioventricular valvular regurgitation. The only known effective treatments are endomyocardiectomy and replacement of regurgitant AV valves. We report the experience of a case of EMF which required surgical management.
