  • First reported geochemical characteristics of mantle xneoliths (spinel peridotites) from Sunheul-ri, Jeju Island, provide important clues for understanding the lithosphere composition, equilibrium temperature, and the period of entrainment and transport of the xenoliths in the host magma. Core and rim of mineral phases in the xenoliths are constant chemical compositions as $Fo_{89-90}$ of olivines. The ranges of equilibrium temperature, obtained by two pyroxenes geothermometer, are about $951{\sim}1035^{\circ}C$ for Sunheul-ri spinel peridotite xenoliths and are similar to the range of equilibrium temperatures for the xenoliths from other sites in Jeju island. The period of entrainment and transport of the xenoliths in the host magma of Sunheul-ri mantle xenoliths is about 42 days.

  • In terms of both quality of rural lifestyle and cultural awareness, the importance of community facility is being emphasized. Nevertheless, by occasion of graying, population outflow and revenue loss, rural society faces the erosion of community. For these reasons, government is promotion an community space construction project on rural areas which is lack of community facilities. Whereas the projects are just one off thing not include upkeeping, so lots of functional overlapping community facilities are formed in same place. In this study has classified rural community facility remodeling element and designed rural community facility evaluation system of each elements. In order to implement of purpose, it has categorized community remodeling index in rural area by literature analysis and site survey. For setting remodeling rating system, this study analysed preceding research data and conducted a Delphi survey of 30 experts. As a result, this study deducted 29 categories of community remodeling index and 21 categorizes of remodeling rating clause. Taking this result, this study progressed case study on seonheul-ri in Jeju. Implications, limitations and future research directions are presented. It would be groundwork for remodeling system development in rural community facility.

  • The study was performed to understand the actual vegetation by using the phytosociological method on the Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group in Jeju Island. The flora was composed of 48 families, 156 genera, 200 species, 28 varieties, 2 forma or 230 taxa. The Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group vegetation was classified into two communities and one association; Erigeron annuus - Conyza sumatrensis, Bromus tectorum - Bidens pilosa, Setaria viridis - Eleusine indica community and Lactuco indicae - Humuletum japonicae association. Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group was wide from the coastal areas up to the elevation of 1500 meter on Young sil of Mt. Halla. The highest dominance of the Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior is 345 meter which is located near Seoneheul-ri Jocheon-eup, on the other hand the lowest one is located 1020 meter near Young-sil of Mt. Halla.

  • An unrecorded species, Carex benkei T. Shimizu, was found in Is. Jaewondo, Jaewon-ri, Imja-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and Dongbaik-dongsan, Seonheul-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Is. Jeju-do, South Korea. C. benkei is closely related to C. transversa Boott and C. brownii Tuck., and C. benkei is distingushied from the pistillate scales length, excluding the awn, similar to the achene and the beak of the achene with an annular appendage. A new Korean name, 'Gin-Hwa-Sal-Sa-Cho', was given based on its long pistillate scales excluding the awn compared with Carex transversa Boott. We provide here its redescription, illustrations, photographs, and a key to species of the sect. Confertiflorae Franch. ex Ohwi.

  • Gotjawal areas have the unique ecosystem and we need to approach as the inhabit of animals to conserve Gotjawal. This study was conducted in Hangyeong-myeon Cheongsu-ri located in the western part of Jeju Island belonging to Hangyeong Andeok Gotjawal Zone and Jocheon-eup Seonheul-ri located in the eastern part of Jeju Island belonging to Jocheon Hamdeok Gotjawal Zone. Survey on advent of the birds was done twice a month from February 2013 to December 2014. A total of 66 species and 4,140 individuals in two Gotjawals were observed during the survey period. In Seonheul Gotjawal area, 53 species and 1,907 individuals were observed while it was 49 species and 2,233 individuals in Cheongsu Gotjawal area. The number of species between two Gotjawal areas was not significantly different, but the number of individuals between two Gotjawal areas was significantly different. Thirty-six species were found in both Gotjawal areas as common species and the index of similarity was 0.7. A total of 23 species were classified as the residents, 15 species as the winter visitors, 16 species as the passage migrants, 11 species as the summer visitors, and 2 species as the vagrant. Twelve species as legally protected birds including the natural monument and the endangered species were found and 8 species were found in Seonheul Gotjawal area while it was 10 species in Cheongsu Gotjawal area. The species that directly using a wetland or food resources related to water were 12 in the Seonheul and 6 species were observed in the Cheongsu Gotjawal area, but there is no significant difference between two Gotjawal areas. However, the number of individuals in Seonheul Gotjawal area was significantly higher than in that of in Cheongsu Gotjawal area. We need to research the wetlands and micro climatic condition existing in Gotjawal forests to find the cause of difference of two areas and this difference must be considered as an important indicator for the protection of Gotjawal forests.
