  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was investigating the differences in temperament, personality, and cognitive function among athletes and non-athletes, as well as differences within athlete groups participating in different-paced sports like baseball and basketball. Methods : A total of 57 professional basketball players, 51 professional baseball players, and 44 non-athletes subjected to temperament and characteristics inventory assessments and computerized neurocognitive function test. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to analyze the average differences in demographic characteristics, temperament, personality traits, and cognitive functions among the three groups, followed by Bonferroni post hoc tests. Comparisons between starters and non-starters within the athlete groups were conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results : In the analysis of temperament, the basketball and baseball player groups exhibited higher reward dependence and persistence compared to the control group. Additionally, in the assessment of personality traits, both basketball and baseball player groups scored higher in self-directedness and cooperativeness compared to the control group, whereas self-transcendence scores were lower. In cognitive ability assessments, baseball and basketball players outperformed the control group in emotional perception tests. Both baseball and basketball players showed lower card movement counts compared to the control group. Conclusions : This study compared the differences in temperament, personality, and cognitive abilities between professional basketball and baseball players and non-athletes. These results provide valuable insights into the temperament, personality, and cognitive abilities of professional athletes, contributing important information for athlete development and coaching goals in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the isokinetic muscular strength of the knee joint between female volleyball and table tennis players. A total of 27 elite volleyball players and 27 table tennis players participated in the study. This study measured both knee extensor and flexor strengths of volleyball and table tennis players using the isokinetic dynamic test. Peak torque was measured by performing maximal voluntary flexion and extension three times at $60^{\circ}/s$. Volleyball players had higher knee extensor and flexor strengths than table tennis players. No significant difference in both knee strengths was noted in table tennis players. However, volleyball players showed significant differences in both knee strengths. Height and weight showed a positive correlation with knee strength. This study found that volleyball players had greater knee strength than that of table tennis players. We also found that volleyball players have asymmetrical knee strength. Comparison with other sport players is warranted to better understand isokinetic muscular strength of the knee joint.

In particular, this study was to develop and examine a theoretical model through theory trimming. To achieve the goal of this study, some of the archery trainers and players participated in korea archery championship in 2007 were selected as a collected group. Total 220 participants were selected using the purposive sampling method to analyze the relationships between archery trainers and players. The data collection method was a brochure named 'the survey on the interaction, exercise satisfaction, adherence, Trust socio-demographic characteristics' Chronbach' a was calculated to check up the reliability and was $.661{\sim}.855.$. Reliability analysis, correlation analysis, SEM were used to analyze the collected data. The results were as follows. First, the interaction between middle and high school archery trainers and players influences on the exercise satisfaction. More interaction gives the players more exercise satisfaction. Second, the interaction between archery trainers and players influences on the trust for trainers. More interaction makes the more trust. Third, the interaction between archery trainers and players did not influences on the exercise adherence. Fourth, the exercise satis)action influences on the trust for trainers. More exercise satisfaction makes the more trust. Firth, the exercise satisfaction did not influences on the exercise adherence. Sixth, the trust influences on the exercise adherence.

  • The purpose of this research is to compare a sensation seeking profiles of the members in Korean Olympic team with those of common athletes. The 261 participants(male: 134, female: 127) as the members of Korean Olympic team were randomly selected from the athletes, who were under training as the entrants for Athens 2004 Olympic Games. And 252 athletes who have never been national representatives, participated for the common athletes. We should find following result. First, Olympic team's athletes were lower than common athletes in TAS(p<.05), BS(p<.05), DIS(p<.001). Second, The ES factor did not find any difference following sex and level. Third, Male athletes were significantly higher than famale athletes in TAS(p<.01) and DIS(p<.001). Fourth, TAS was the highest factor in male athletes, otherwise BS was the highest factor in female athletes.

  • This study was an investigation of 379 people to analyze the relations between leadership and happiness recognized by university athletes. First, happiness of university athletes showed the highest score in smooth relationship with parents. And male athletes score higher than female athletes. Second, the sub-factors of achievement and self-acceptance of happiness have significantly correlated with all factors of leadership. In particular, self-improvement, goal-seeking, and influence are most highly correlated. And the religious influence was the lowest correlation. Third, achievement orientation of leadership factors affect all sub-factors of happiness and influence, and self-regulation has an effect to sub-factors of happiness. Fourth, flexible leadership, interpersonal understanding, teamwork and cooperation, orientation did not affect happiness.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze flick shooting motion in penalty corner between high school players and national players in field hockey. Five high school players and six national players participated in this study. The 3D kinematic data were collected for each subject performing the penalty corner stroke. The results of the study were as follows: 1) The national players had higher stick head and ball velocity than the high school players. 2) The forward length between ball and support foot during ball catching with stick head was longer in the national players than the high school players. 3) At the Z axis of the E5 event, the center of gravity of the national players was lower than that of the high school players. 4) At the Z axis of the E5 event, left hip angle of the national players was lower than that of the high school players. 5) The national players had longer drag length of ball than the high school players. 6) The national players had higher hand and lower arm angular momentum than the high school players.

  • This study investigated whether adolescents' perception s of coaching behavior and social behaviors differ by gender and sport career, and examined the relationships among these variables. Subjects were 740 high school athletes (516 males, 224 females). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and 2(gender)${\times}3$(sport career) MANOVA. Results of MANOVA indicated that the interaction between gender and sport career significantly influenced to the level of prosocial behaviors on opponents. Male athletes perceived their coaches' behaviors more controlled and showed higher antisocial behaviors to opponents than female athletes. Athletes with low sport career reported higher antisocial behaviors on opponents than those with high careers. Autonomy-supportive coaching behaviors were positively associated with prosocial behaviors, but negatively related with antisocial behaviors. Controlled coaching behaviors were positively associated with antisocial behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of coach confidence on member satisfaction and perceived performance in throwers. The participants were 198 throwers who were competed in the 40th National Athletics Championship. To analyze the data, multiple regression was performed using SPSS 18.0 ver Windows. The results showed that coach confidence of throwers affected significantly on the athlete satisfaction(p<0.05). In other words, the subfactor of coach confidence such as integrity, ability, consistency, sacrifice, and openness affected the subfactor of player satisfaction such as technical analysis, teaching ability, and coaching qualification. And also, coach confidence of throwers affected significantly on the perceived performance(p<0.05). The subfactor of coach confidence such as integrity, ability, consistency, sacrifice, and openness affected the subfactor of player satisfaction such as victory will and skill exhibition. It was concluded that the coach confidence of throwers may affect player satisfaction and perceived performance.
