Design of a 4-bit Digital Phase Shifter in Quasimillimeter Wave Band for Satellite Communication (준밀리미터파대 위성통신용 4-bit 디지털 위상변위기의 설계)

  • This paper presents the description of a 4-bit digital p-i-n diode phase shifter that was designed for quasimillimeter wave band satellite receiver to use in phased-array systems. 180$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in reflection type that consists of a 3-dB rat-race hybrid coupler, 45$^{\circ}$ and 22.5$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in loaded-line type to reduce the size of circuit and the number of diode to be used. The 4-bit phase shifter uses eight p-i-n diodes mounted in the microstrip circuit. The average insertion loss for the 16 phase states is 6.92dB over the 19.8~20.3 GHz band and maximum phase error is 6.2$^{\circ}$ at 20 GHz.

Sequentially Rotated Array Microstrip Antenna (순차 회전 배열 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • In this paper, The four types SRA(Sequential Rotated Array) antennas has been analyzed. Those are consisted of a 4-elements SRA, a 8-elements SRA, the $2{\times}2$ planer array SRA and the triple (4+8+4)-elements SRA. These LHCP SRA antennas are used a probe feeding multi-layer truncated microstrip antenna whose center frequency is 11.85 CHz. The cooperated feeding circuits are designed for feeding to each elements with equal amplitude and regular phase. Comparing with the each simulation results and experiment results of this 4-type SRA antennas, the triple (4+8+4)-elements SRA showed the most electrical characteristics in the degree of integration, high gain and low cross polarization.

Design of a Double-Faced Window Printed Antenna for Aircraft Applications (항공기용 양면 인쇄형 글래스 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a double-faced window printed antenna for aircraft applications. The proposed antenna structure consists of a feeding line and a multi-loop radiator located on different sides of the window to use the limited given-area effectively. The proposed antenna is optimized by the genetic algorithm in conjunction with the FEKO EM simulator. The optimized antenna is built and installed on a 1/10 sized KUH-Surion mock-up and antenna performances such as the reflection coefficient and the radiation patterns are measured. The optimized antenna shows a half power matching bandwidth of about 33 % at 60 MHz and an average bore-sight gain of about -3.49 dBi. To verify the reception capability of the optimized antenna, we simulated the received power according to a flight scenario. The result confirms that the optimized antenna shows a minimum received power level above -60 dBm at a range of 200 km, which is similar to the pole antenna that is currently used as a FM voice antenna for KUH-Surion.

  • Landslides triggered by rainfall produce severe effects on the serviceability and stability of railway. Since small amount of soil mass slipped on the rail can cause derailment which will induce great danger on people and trains, slope stability problem is one of the major concerns on the operation of railway In this study we investigated the characteristics of rainfall driven landslide near railway. A total of 23 sites were visited. Four different types of slope failure were classified based upon the morphology of the slipped slope triggered by rainfall. From the analysis dimensions of slopes (height, length and slope) do not show particular correlation with the types of landslides. In addition, morphological and geological features of slope influence the occurrence of different types of landslides.

  • The operation of KTX in Korea has launched since 2004, which brought about a great change in railroad industry. We have acquired lots of great know-hows, especially in railroad construction and operation field. Therefore, we have been building up numerous operation skills until now. However, it was necessary to investigate some of the equipment based on our own environment because the high speed train system were totally imported. In case of Toughened Glass Stem Insulator, it was totally new type in domestic. This paper introduces estimation method and result in three different field aspect, such as an electrical field, a physical field, and environmental circumstances. First, in case of an electrical field, amplitude and a number of time for switching surge voltage data were collected. Second, in case of a physical field, amplitude and trend of vibration in to the insulator were examined. Finally, in case of environmental circumstances, flying possibility of gravel and ice clod were investigated. Also shrink and expend characteristic according to temperature were reviewed. Through this basic data, suitability for Toughened Glass Stem Insulator using in domestic high speed railway have been accumulated and estimated.

  • The railway concrete track has been increasingly adopted for high-speed train such as KTX due to its high running stability, improved ride quality for the passengers, and low maintenance cost. However, excessive settlement of the railway concrete track has been monitored at embankment sections of the ◯◯ High-speed Line, resulting in the concerns on the safety of railway operation. In order to establish an effective maintenance plan for the concrete track railway exceeding the allowable residual settlement, it is essential to reasonably predict their long-term settlement behavior during the public period. In this study, we developed a model for predicting the long-term settlement behavior of concrete track using recurrent neural network (RNN) and examined the applicability of the developed model.

  • This paper shows a study on the "Korean High Speed Train Design" method, its design process and the result in the form of aerodynamic optimal exterior design development of a prototype test train(HSR 350${\times}$). It was developed from 1996 until 2002, six years long in R '||'&'||' D project titled "Development of High Speed Railway Technology" The end result of the project is a prototype test train, which has two power cars, two motorized trailers and three trailers, had been tested successfully in the year 2003 to the highest speed limit 380km/h on high speed line. The improved conceptual design work of a new commercial train and next generation's train is also performed for future needs.uture needs.

Transmission Line using Microstrip-Slotline Transition Technology and Its Application to Power Divider (마이크로스트립과 슬롯라인 천이기술을 이용한 전송선로 구현과 전력 분배기에 응용)

  • This paper presents a compact power divider using microstrip-slotline transition technology. By using the microstrip-slotline transition, the ${\lambda}/4$ transmission lines of the divider can be changed to two ${\lambda}/8$ transmission lines in the multilayer structure. In the microstrip-slotline transition, we have used via holes to make a short circuit at the microstrip line and embedded spiral configuration stubs to reduce the electrical length of an open circuit at the slotline end point. For validating the microstrip-slotline technique, we have simulated and implemented the power divider with embedded spiral and via hole configuration circuits at a frequency of 2 GHz. Good agreement between the simulation and the measurement results is obtained at the operating frequency.

  • The allotment rate for railway transportation keeps an yearly 6% in Korea. However, the railway logistics will cause the opposite result according to the continuous investment and logistics rationalization. The study on railway logistics as well as inter-Korean railway that might highly contribute to the development of railway logistics is not enough at all. The purpose of this paper is to study the revitalization strategy for inter-Korean railway by forecasting the demand and the scale of railway logistics depot. The revitalization strategies for inter-Korean railway through railway logistics depot are as followings. First, it is necessary to strengthen the partnership with coal user in the logistics depot. Second, it is encouraged to provide the financial assistance that are needed in the maintenance of the decrepit North Korea's track as well as the establishment of Donghae northern line that is from Gangneung to Jejin. Third, the railway cost on long/short transportation and large sized shipper is needed to apply in a flexible way. Fourth, it is necessary to obtain the railway traffic right by involving the foreign mining development. Fifth, it is encouraged to constantly find the small sized shipper like cement company.

  • This report proposes a waveguide spatial combiner with high power low loss. The proposed spatial combiner implements high power by combining from the center of each port through a waveguide. In particular, we implement low loss using TE01 mode, which has the lowest transmission track loss among modes of circular waveguide, and miniaturization is achieved by applying a new mode conversion method. IIn addition, it was confirmed that it was suitable for high output by calculating the insulation breakdown voltage of the new mode conversion structure through E-field analysis. The final 8-way waveguide spatial combiner was designed and manufactured, and the insertion loss was less than 0.4dB and the combining efficiency was 97% or more, confirming that the electrical performance was very good compared to the planar combining method.
