Characteristics on EL Properties and Phase Transformation Caused by Artificial Defects on the ZnS:Cu Blue Phosphor for ACPEL (ACPEL용 ZnS:Cu 청색 형광체의 인위적 결함 형성에 따른 결정 상 변화 및 EL 특성)

  • A blue phosphor(ZnS:Cu) is manufactured by solid state reaction for ACPEL(AC powder EL). The effect of artificial defect on phosphor surface on the ZnO phase conversion and resulting luminescence have been studied. It was found that ZnS:Cu could converse to cubic phase more easily due to the formation of artificial defect on 1st fired phosphor by ball-milling process, resulting in improvement of luminescence of phosphor phosphors under the driven EL condition. We found out an optimized ball-mill condition through considering effect of each ball-mill conditions such as milling time and milling rpm on defect. Also we determined relationship between emission luminescence and phase of phosphor based on analyses of crystal structures of phosphors. A significant improvement above 30% was observed in electroluminescence by the artificial defect on ZnS:Cu phosphors compared to non-treated phosphors.

Effect of Toluene Added to Casting Solution on Characteristic of Phase Inversion Polysulfone Membrane (상전환 공정에 의한 폴리설폰막의 제조에 있어 제막용액에 첨가된 톨루엔의 영향)

  • Polysulfone membranes were prepared via the phase inversion process. Toluene was added as a nonsolvent additive in the casting solution containing a mixture of polysulfone and n-methylpyrrolidone. When prepared via the diffusion-induced process using isopropanol as a precipitation nonsolvent, the solidified membranes revealed a similar asymmetric structure irrespective of the addition of toluene, presenting both a dense skin layer and a sponge-like support layer. The added toluene played a role of enhancing liquid-liquid phase separation of the casting solution, and skin layer thickness of a prepared membrane increased with toluene content in the casting solution. On membrane performance, the solute rejection showed a uniform behavior irrespective of the addition of toluene. However, in spite of the significant increase in dense skin layer thickness, the water permeation through the membrane prepared with 60 wt% toluene revealed five times as much flux, compared with that of the membrane prepared without toluene additive.

  • The layered structure of organic-inorganic perovskite hybrids, $(C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2CuC1_4$ (n = 6, 8, 10, 12) have synthesized. In $(C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2CuC1_4$ compounds, the long-chain protonated alkylammonium ions as tilted bilayer type are inserted into perovskite-type layers of corner sharing $CuCl_6$ octahedron. Three solid phases have been characterized in the perovskite layered compound $(C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2CuC1_4$ using HT-XRD and DSC. The $(C_nH_{2n+1}NH_3)_2CuC1_4$ compounds shows solid-solid phase transitions with stepwise increasing of the layer distance. Three different structures are explained by the conformational change of the long-chain protonated alkylammonium ions.

Corrosion mechanism of zirconia/graphite SEN by molten steel and slag (용강 및 슬래그에 의한 지르코니아/흑연계 침지노즐의 침식기구)

  • Corrosion mechanisms by molten steel and slag were investigated in the zirconia/graphite composite as a material of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) using for producing high quality steel. Most of corrosions were started by the dissolution of zirconia particles into molten steel and oxidation of graphite, but subsequently three modes of corrosion were observed. Firstly, the penetration of slag into zirconia matrix was induced to the diffusion of stabilizing agent outward cubic zirconia grains, and the destabilization of cubic to fine monoclinic zirconia particles, which is enhanced to the decomposition and dissolution of them into slag. Secondly, molten slag penetrates into large cubic zirconia particles along grain boundary and decomposed them to fine cubic grains, which is also enhanced to the dissolution of zirconia grains into slag. Lastly, reaction between carbon and cubic zirconia was formed porous ZrC and enhanced the dissolution of it into slag.

  • High speed elevator requires precise drive included in zero speed at start/stop drive for the high stability and controllability. The vector control techniques, which have been used for the precise operation of induction motor, can be divided into two classes; The indirect vector control by slip frequency and the direct vector control by field orientation. The existing direct vector control technique has a robustness against the change of motor parameter and the existing indirect vector control technique has a strength of control ability in the wide speed range comparatively. This study presents the DTIF (Direct Torque Indirect Flux) controller which has robust movement in the transition state and in about zero and low speed using the control technique in which torque is controlled by the direct vector technique and flux is controled by indirect vector technique. The proposed system is verified by simulation and experiment for driving 3 phase induction motor. The process of transition which is from about zero speed and low speed to high speed is compared and measured to specification of phase voltage, phase current and DC link current. It is verified that DTIF controller show robust and stable speed variation.

  • [ $(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3$ ](KNN) 세라믹스의 소결 특성과 압전 특성을 높이기 위해 B-site에 Sb를 치환하여 Sb함량에 따른 특성을 측정 하였다. Sb 의 함량을 0mol $\sim$ 0.1mol 까지 첨가한 결과 소결 밀도는 Sb의 첨가량이 많아질수록 증가하다 Sb-0.08mol에서 4.40g/$cm^3$으로 가장 높은 밀도를 가졌으며, 여기서의 전기기계 결합 계수가(Kp) 0.45로 높은 값을 나타내었다. 상전 이 온도는 375$^{\circ}C$로 순수한 KNN 의 420$^{\circ}C$ 보다 약 45$^{\circ}C$정도 떨어졌으나 orthorhombic에 서 tetragonal 로 바뀌는 전이 온도는 KNN이 220$^{\circ}C$, KNNS 가 225$^{\circ}C$로 크게 변하지 않았다.

  • Only trace amounts of hydroxide ion can be extracted from aqueous phase into organic phase by Tetra-n-Butyl Ammonium Chloride(TBAC). Addition of small amounts of primary alcohols, particularly certain dials, dramatically changes the behavior of Phase Transfer Catalysis systems, and surprising amounts of base can be found in the organic phase. Quantitative measurements were carried out for the extraction amounts of primary alkoxides, secondary alkoxides, and diol anions into organic phase. On the other hand, the selectivity constants for extraction of primary alcohols and benzylalcohol could be separated to the equilibrium constants of the ion pairs such as $Q^+RO^-$ and $Q^+Cl^-$ in the aqueous and organic phases and this distribution coefficients between phases on anions respectively. In a word, the colligated property for the selectivity of $Q^+RO^-$ in which $Q^+$ is quaternary cation and $RO^-$ alkoxide ion could be discussed in more detail by using of the corresponding free energies to the various constants mentioned.

  • Poly(${\varepsilon}-caprolacton$)/ethyl cellulose (PCL/EC) microcapsules containing pluronic F127 were prepared by a spray drying method. The aqueous phase, 20% of pluronic F127 was dissolved in distilled water, and the organic phase, 5% of PCL and EC were dissolved in dichloromethane. The microcapsules were obtained by spray drying the water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion. According to the data of scanning electron microscopy and particle analyzer, tens of micro size microcapsules were observed. On a differential scanning calorimeter, the phase transition temperatures of microcapsules were observed and they were found around those of pluronic F127 and poly(${\varepsilon}-caprolacton$), which were the main components of the microcapsules. At the range of $30{\sim}45^{\circ}C$, temperature-dependent release properties were investigated using fluorescein isothicyanate-dextran (FITC-dextran) and blue dextran as a model drug. When the temperature was increased, the degree of release of microcapsule was also increased. FITC-dextran, the relative low molecular weight, was more released than blue-dextran.

The Effect of the Membrane Fluidity of Bellflower(Platycodon grandiflorum A.) Fractions on Liposomal Phospholipid Membranes (도라지 분획성분이 인지질막 Liposome의 유동성에 미치는 영향)

  • The object of this study was to investigate the effect of membrane fluidity of bellflower(Platycodon grandiflorum A. DC, ; PG) fractions in phosphatidylcholine(PC) liposomes, measured with high-sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). We used dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine(DPPC) bilayers which slake most stable liposomes among the other phosphatidylcholine. The sample PG was extracted and fractionated to five different types : butanol(PGMB), ethylacetate(PGMEA), ethylether(PGMEE), hexane (PGMH) and methanol(PGMM). Among five different solvent fractions, the PGMEE, PGMEA, PGMH and PGMM fractions markedly affected the thermotropic properties of DPPC liposomes, broadened and shifted the thermograms, and reduced the cooperative unit. It might be said that the incorporation of PGMEE, PGMEA and PGMH in DPPC liposomes were located in the hydrophobic core of DPPC bilayers and, PGMM and PGMB in the hydrophilic core of DPPC bilayers. These results suggest that certain substances in the PGMEE, PGMEA and PGMH fractions might have biologically significant effect on the membrane fluidity.

Magnetic Properties and Structures of Rare earth-Aluminum Compounds $RAI_{2}$ (희토류원소-알루미늄 화합물 $RAI_{2}$의 자기적성질 및 구조)

  • Rare earth-aluminum intermetallic compounds $RAI_{2}$ (R ; Lu, Ce, Gd) are prepared by the arc-melt method and the magnetic properties and electronic structures are investigated by magnetic susceptiptibiliy measurements using SQUID magnetometer. The magnetic suceptibiliyof $LuAl_{2}$ is weakly temperature dependent and shows a Pauli susceptibility of $10.1{\times}10^{-5}$ emu/mol, which means 3.2 states/eV/formula unit. On the other hand, the susceptibility data of $CeAl_{2}$ and $GdAl_{2}$ show a Curie-Weiss behavior for paramagnets. The magnetization data at low temperatures confirm that $CeAl_{2}$ undergoes an antiferromagnetic phase transition near 4 K whereas $GdAl_{2}$ a ferromagnetic transition at 170 K. The distinctive magnetic behaviors of $RAI_{2}$ originate from the different 4f band filling.
