The elderly suicide has become a social problem, and the need for academic and practice-based knowledge for preventing elderly suicide has been addressed. Unlike previous literature focusing on identifying risk factors, this study aimed to address protective ones which help to overcome suicidal behavior among older adults. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand how older adults get over being suicidal and get back to life, and to identify what helps them during the process. Both in-depth interviews with 35 elderly with suicide attempts and field notes were analyzed through thematic analysis. The older adults described a pathway to rediscovering a 'will to live' that was related to a 'mind's incline' and included two kinds of protective factors. Based on the findings, it addresses the implication for the elderly suicide prevention utilizing protective factors.

The ever-increasing informal economy in post-socialist Eastern Europe forces one to wonder about what transition to post-socialism is for and about. Informal economy, which refers to unregistered work and services to was rampant in the socialist period across Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. It was considered as a pathological phenomenon of the socialist system and exposing the rigidity and inefficiency of the command economy amongst the socialist regimes. The ordinary people of the Eastern bloc had to resort to all sorts of informal channels to get hold of goods and services constantly in short supply, especially at the last decade of the really existing socialism. However, it is ironical to observe the same old informal economy, considered pathological, even more thriving in the new era of post-socialism in Eastern Europe. After all, the system has changed into the capitalism, the antipode to socialism. It should be mentioned that the function of informal economy is seen to be even more intensified, from a means to make living better in the socialist time to a means for survival and sustenance in the post-socialist period. It follows from the socialist experience that the deficiency of the ruling system could not be indefinitely borne out. Real remedies should be sought out before it will be too late.

People say that dichotomous way of thought in the Occident separating human from nature resulted in ecological crisis. Furthermore, it is said that surmounting Occidental way of thought is necessary to heal ecological crisis, and ecological elements in Oriental traditional philosophy could be the alternative for changing anti-ecological disposition inherent in Occidental thought. Although so-called ecology did not exist in Oriental traditional philosophy, there is room for reviewing Oriental traditional philosophy in terms of ecological elements or ecological orientation. In modern society, however, the vitality and significance of ecological elements in Oriental traditional philosophy cannot be conclusively verified. On the other hand, Occidental thought regarded as the main culprit of environmental destruction may not contain anti-ecological contents. Therefore, this study critically reviews the possibility and significance of modern change of ecological thought in Oriental tradition by raising two questions, "Is Occidental view of nature anti-ecological?" and "Is Oriental view of nature ecological?"

The main purpose of this thesis is to research various theories in Cultural Education. It is to rebuild the value of home economics, and to demonstrate its potential to bring out a true human being. Until now, home economics education had been focused on developing ability to solve problems, only to fail us in training students to have ability to cope with different conditions in daily life by themselves. With the society rapidly changing, such a temporizing education system would lose its value immediately, and the identity of home economics education is at stake today. The present situation is resulted from the failure in approaching the culture education properly. With the fact that the elements of home economics are culture themselves. the failures in organizing and teaching the subject would urge us to rearrange curriculum of home economics. We need to bear in mind that the curriculum of home economics cannot contain every cultural value. A careful consideration is necessary in order to include the essence of the culture at the minimum quantity. Through analyzing different types of theories and methods of education in Cultural Education, this research is aimed at reviewing home economics education with its concept. Further study in the future should be proceeded with more comprehensive researches on instruction and learning methods with Cultural Education perspective, based on the analysis.

Nowadays, the employment policies for older people is requested to become the new form in the change of information, globalization, and aging. It is discussed, simultaneously, about an age integrated society as the full time jobs' continuation and social jobs after the full time jobs. The discussion of jobs' continuation include from institutional system to age integrated society. Social jobs include from public labor to social wages. jobs' continuation passes over stabilization, regarding it as ideal society. social jobs are interpreted it as residual welfare, excluding the meaning of social solidarity. In fact, most of the debates is overwhelmed by the logic of economy. And so they pass over the quality of life of individuals. Therefore, this study critics the employment policies for older people in the present situation and states a direction improving the quality of life older people.

The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of the blindness of Sim Bongsa, Sim Cheong's father, in Sim Cheong Jeon (the story of Sim Cheong). This is one of the representative works about the filial piety in Korea. This article regards the story as the process of restoring the sight of the father and tries to examine the cause and the timing of his blindness to make its diagnosis in the psychoanalytic perspective. The predominant characteristics of Sim Bongsa were very dependent and irresponsible. He was so unqualified to be a head of a family. He sought to close his eyes toward reality in his unconsciousness. His blindness can be diagnosed as a case of psychogenic hysteria, conversion disorder. The fact that he suddenly could see when the empress turned out to be his own daughter, Cheong, can be a meaningful proof for this diagnosis. It means that his symptom of blindness disappeared when he realized a new reality which ensures a comfortable and easy-going life for himself.

방송의 디지털 전환은 기존의 아날로그 방송에 비해 획기적으로 새로운 HD 화질과 3D입체음향의 방송 서비스가 가능하게 하였을 뿐만 아니라, 아날로그 방송에서는 불가능하였던 이동멀티미디어 방송이라는 새로운 서비스가 출현하게 하였다. 이동멀티미디어방송은 TV를 집 밖으로 이끌어내어 차를 타고 갈 때, 걸어갈 때 및 자리를 옮겨 다닐때도 휴대단말기를 통해서 언제 어디서나 원하는 TV 시청 및 음악 청취를 할 수 있는방송 서비스를 실현함으로써, 방송과 통신의 컨버전스를 유도하는 역할 및 나아가서 유비쿼터스 방송망 구성에 적용성을 제시하는 등 우리의 삶에 새로운 시대를 열어가고 있다. 현재 지상파 이동멀티미디어 방송 시스템은 세계적으로 매우 활발하게 연구 및 서비스가 추진중이며, 대표적인 예로는 크게 World DAB를 중심으로 한 T-DMB, DVB를 중심으로 한 DVB-H 그리고 Qualcomm을 중심으로 한 Media FLO 등이 있다. 본고에서는 지상파 이동멀티미디어 방송시스템에 대한 소개와 각 시스템의 표준화 및 서비스 추진 현황에 대해 소개한다.

미국의 클린턴 행정부는 풍부한 영상 소프트웨어, 정보통신기술에서의 우위성, 고도의 네트워크를 바탕으로 21세기 정보사회에서의 주도권을 확보하기 위하여 노력하고 있다. 특히 냉전체제의 종식으로 인하여 국방분야에서의 여력이 생긴 연구개발 자원을 민생기술중심으로 전환하고 있으며, 국방분야에서 축적된 기술을 민간으로 확산하는 Spin-off 패러다임이 비판을 받으면서 Spin-on 패러다임을 동시에 구사하는 Dual-use전략을 사용하고 있다. 특히 NII구축을 통하여 다음 세기에서의 국가경쟁력을 강화하고, 국민의 삶을 질을 높이기 위한 노력을 선두적으로 추구하고 있는 상황임을 감안할 때, 미국에서의 정보통신기술정책 및 전략방향을 살펴보는 것은 초고속 기반구축사업을 추진하고 있는 우리 실정에 시사되는 바가 크리라 판단된다. 이를 위해서 미국의 정보통신기술 개발체계와 HPCC(High Performance Cumputing and Communications) 프로그램의 기술개발 현황을 중심으로 정보통신기술개발 동향을 분석하고 정보통신기술에 대한 장기적인 연구개발 방향을 분석하고자 한다.

This qualitative study explored a middle-aged lesbian's life and her identities by the oral life history approach in feminist epistemology, where the participant is not the object but the subject of knowledge. The participant kept her own perspective that her homosexuality was not intrinsic but constructed. In her life's history, she was a "docile body" accepting socially constructed historical meaning of homosexuality, as well as a "resistant body" protesting against social discrimination and oppression for homosexual population. She overcame an embedded negative recognition of her scaled injured body and her sexuality as "deficient". Finally, she showed an amazing resilience and an indomitable spirit for reconstructing the meaning of her body as "blessed." Beyond the deficient body, as an active agent not the pathologic sexual minority, she could cultivate compassion and empathy for others. From the results, it is important how to place gender and sexuality in the context of social work theory and practice. Sexuality, not sexual orientation, is 'our' collective agenda to address the social problems which were associated with social hierarchy, inequality, and injustice.
