A Study on a PCB Manufacturing Plant's Fire Risk Assessment due to the Mitigation of Fire Protection Zone and an Improvement Way through Estimation of Sprinkler Demand Water Flow Rate (방화구획 완화에 따른 PCB공장의 화재위험평가 및 스프링클러 요구살수유량 산정을 통한 기준개선안에 관한 연구)

  • A sprinkler is a fire extinguishing equipment installed in a protected area where a detector or head detects a fire and automatically puts out the fire. However, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "Regulations on Building Evacuation and Fire Protection Standards, etc." stipulate that fire compartment area should be reduced to three times by installing sprinkler facilities in the case of factories and warehouses. In this study, fire hazard was analyzed for a real PCB factory which mitigated the fire protection zone by sprinkler installation, and the head opening characteristics of sprinkler facilities through computer simulation, installation standards of sprinkler facilities, thermal performance, operating range, and the amount of water sprayed to identify the problems of operation of sprinkler facilities in case of fire, and to suggest the grounds such as required sprinkling flow rate for system improvement.

A Study on the Konjak Mannan-hydrolyzing Enzymes from Aspergillus awamori (Aspergillus awamori 가 생산하는 konjak mannan 분해효소에 관한 연구)

  • As a study on the konjak mannan-hydrolyzing enzymes from Aspergillus awamori, the culture conditions for enzyme formation, purification and properties of the enzymes and the effect of gamma-irradiation on the enzymatic hydrolysis were investigated. The results are summarized as follows: 1) A strain of A. awamori was selected as having the highest productivity of mannanase among 81 species of molds. 2) The optimum conditions for solid culture on wheat bran were 3 days of culture period, pH 4 of spraying water and 100% addition of tap water. 3) The optimum conditions for shaking culture were 6 days of culture period, addition of 0.1% xylose plus 0.5% konjak mannan and of 0.04% peptone. 4) Konjak mannan-hydrolyzing enzymes were separated into fraction I and fraction II by ammonium sulfate fractionation and DEAE-Sephadex column chromatography. 5) Fractions I and II showed pH optima of 4, pH stability of $3.5{\sim}5$ and $3{\sim}6$ and the extent of hydrolyzing konjak mannan 9% and 50%, respectively. 6) Hydrolysis of konjak mannan by a crude enzyme preparation was partially accerelated by gamma-irradiation of substrate above 0.5 Mrad and the effect was more remarkable by irradiating in wet state than in dry state. 7) Gamma-irradiation of konjak mannan brought about the increase in reducing power and decrease in viscosity and the effect was more remarkable in wet state than in dry state.

Use of Sprinkler System for Production Forest Management of Pine Mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake) (살수장치(撒水裝置)를 이용(利用)한 송이산 관리(管理)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • In order to prevent the pine mushrooms, Tricholoma matsutake, from being damaged by the pine needle gall midges, Thecodiplosis japonensis, and thereby, to increase their production and improve their quality, a sprinkler system was installed on the mushroom field. A low-concentration insecticide (deltamethrin 1% EC, x2,000) was sprayed once at insects' most active time every day during the period of insects' adult occurrence and thereafter, the irrigation by ground water spraying was periodically enforced. Such a test was conducted at Yangyang-Gun, Kwangwon-do, Korea for 2 years from 2000 through 2001. The pine needle gall midges generally emerged for about 40 days from late May to early July. 50% emergence of them was about June 6, and peak emergence (more than 80%) was early or mid-June. Gall formation rate was 3.5% on average with this ground insecticide spraying, while 51.3% when not treated. Control effectiveness of this insecticide spraying was 92.3%, which was higher than 82.5% by the conventional injection of insecticide into tree stems. Pine mushrooms emerged for about 35 days from mid-September through earlier October, and around 80% of them did for about 15 days from late September through early October. As a result of the periodic ground water-spraying (30 mm per week) for 2 months (from August to October), the production of mushrooms increased by 74.3% (110% in terms of weight), with their quality improvement. The mushrooms produced from the treated stand by the spraying system were priced 8,670,000 wons per hectare, and thus, the net income deducting the facility and management cost was 4,310,000 wons, about 5% higher than value from the control stand. It was analyzed that this treatment was significantly cost effective when the facilities are used more than 5 years.

  • A newly developed waste-water treatment system for small scale piggery wastes through a demonstration trial at a farm. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The amount of piggery wastes produced was 10.2kg/head/day, which consisted of 2.8kg solid wastes and $7.41{\ell}$ fluid wastes. 2. The unit BOD discharge from piggery wastes was 207g/head/day, among which 81 percent was originated from solid waste and 19 percent from fluid waste. 3. After the treatment of the waste-water through the system, BOD, total N and total P were lowered by 99, 78, 74 percent, respectively : the BOD, total N and total P in the final effluent were $52mg/{\ell}$, $213mg/{\ell}$ and $28mg/{\ell}$, respectively. 4. The results of the trials suggested that the system could be recommended for the practical use at the farms.

  • It was proven that rice straw can serve can serve as a good support medium for trickling filter with livestock wastewater treatment. The efficiency of removal of removal of environmentally undesirable components from the wastewater by the straw medium was no less inferior to other commonly used support materials. The treated straw was also proven to be a source of abundant plant nutrients. The growth of orchard grass was enhanced greatly by the application of large quantity of the support medium. A maximum yield of dry matter was obtained at the rate of 40 ton/ha. Inorganic NPK elements as background fertilizers were highly recommended for better development in an early stage of growth. The nutritional status of the soil was very much improved by the addition of the medium in terms of exchangeable cations(K, Ca, Mg and Na), available phosphate, and organic matter contents. Nutrient uptake by orchard grass such as N, P and cations was enhanced by rice straw medium treatment and that was proportional to the levels of treatment.

Study on the Crack Control Effect of Moist Curing Equipment in Side Wall of Building (습윤양생 장치를 이용한 아파트 측벽 균열제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, moist curing equipment was used in the exist gang-form system. By achieving sufficient spray curing, the quality of the concrete was improved and the cracking occurred in building's side wall was decreased. The following results could be made as the conclusion. For the compressive strength, all zones showed the similar results. Comparing with the zone without using moist curing equipment, the zone used moist curing equipment showed higher rebound hardness results. For the cracking, the zone utilized moist curing equipment showed the cracking averaged as 6.6 m and the zone without using moist curing equipment showed the cracking averaged as 10.3m. The effectof reducing cracking by utilizing moist curing equipment is about 36 %. Using moist curing equipment is considered as a good solution to reduce the cracking in the structure. Considering all the factors analysed, using moist curing equipment improved the quality of the concrete and decreased the cracking. When this equipment was used in the construction site, it is expected that the construction periodcan be shrunk and the ratio of defect caused by drying shrinkage can be decreased. In this research conditions, The 0.3mm sized moist curing equipment provided the most desirable results on concrete quality and preventing cracking.

Power-Aware Dynamic Source Routing in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks (무선 애드혹 망에서의 전력 인식 동적 소스 라우팅)

  • Ad-hoc networks are temporary wireless systems composed of mobile nodes without any fixed infrastructure. The life time of each node in the ad-hoc network significantly affects the life time of whole ad-hoc network. A node which drained out its battery may incur the partition of whole network in some network topology The life time of each node depends on the battery capacity of each node. Therefore if all mobile nodes in the network live evenly long, the life time of the network will be longer. In this paper, we propose Power-Aware Dynamic Source Routing (PADSR) which selects the best path to make the life time of the network be longer. In PADSR, when a source node finds a path to the destination node, it selects the best path that makes nodes in the network live evenly long. To find the best path, PADSR considers the consumption of transmission energy and residual battery capacity of nodes upon the path. Consequently the network lives longer if we use PADSR.

Fine Dust Suppression by Enzyme Induced Carbonate Precipitation: Indoor Experiment and Field Application (EICP에 의한 미세먼지 억제: 실내 실험 및 현장 적용)

  • The efficiency of suppressing fine dust was evaluated by conducting indoor and field experiments for the ground treated with EICP solution, which is an eco-friendly ground improvement method. In laboratory experiments, the EICP solution was prepared with inexpensive materials for the field applicability, and the optimal mixing ratio and optimal spraying volume of EICP solution were calculated. The optimum amount of calcium carbonate was shown when the ratio of urea/calcium chloride and white powder were 1.5 and 15 g/L, respectively. The optimum spraying amount of the EICP solution was $7L/m^2$ determined by fine dust suppression and cone tip resistance experiments. The spraying of water and EICP solution was conducted at the test-bed where dump trucks pass for the effect of suppressing fine dust of each method. The effective fine dust suppression method can be chosen depending on the situation of the site.

Physical Properties of Permeable Concrete Using Slag as an Aggregate (슬래그 골재를 사용한 투수성 콘크리트의 물리적 성질)

  • This paper discusses the physical properties of permeable high quality concrete using blast furnace slag or steel slag as a part of aggregate. In the case of steel slag, aging treatment was adopted to prevent the volume expansion. With high range water reducing agent, the concrete using slag aggregate showed compressive strength up to 24MPa at the age of 28 days and the water permeability of the concrete was over the level of 0.1 m/s in this experiment. Also, there was no expansion problem in the concrete substituted with aged slag as a part of aggregate.

Relationship between the Occurrence of Small Brown Planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus (Fallen) (Homoptera : Delphacidae) and Barley Maturity (애멸구 다발생(多發生)과 맥류(麥類) 열기(熱期)와의 관계(關係))

  • Number of small brown planthoppers, Laodelphax striatellus(F.) negatively correlated with the mean temperature of March in Korea. The low temperature of March delayed the barley growth, heading date, and maturity. Thereby, was small brown planthopper was given a good condition to feed barley, and caused abundant occurence in 1984. In addition, it was possible to predict the occurence ot small brown planthopper by quadractice equations.
