Effects of Precursor Concentration on Surface and Optical Properties of ZnO Nano-Fibrous Thin Films Fabricated by Spin-Coating Method (스핀코팅 방법으로 제작된 ZnO 나노 섬유질 박막의 전구체 농도에 따른 표면 및 광학적 특성)

  • ZnO nano-fibrous thin films with various precursor concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 mol (M) were grown by spin-coating method and effects of the precursor concentration on surface and optical properties of the ZnO nano-ribrous thin films were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL). ZnO nuclei were formed at the precursor concentration below 0.4 M and the ZnO nano-fibrous thin films were grown at the precursor concentration above 0.6 M. Further increase in the precursor concentration, the thickness of the ZnO nano-fibrous thin films is gradually increased. The intensity and the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the near-band-edge emission (NBE) is increased as the precursor concentration is increased. The deep-level emission (DLE) is red-shifted as the precursor concentration is increased.

  • 최근에 산화물 형광체는 황화물 형광체에 비해 높은 화학적 안정성을 나타내기 때문에 백색 발광 다이오드, 전계방출 디스플레이와 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널에 그 응용성을 넓히고 있다. 마그네슘 니오베이트(magnesium niobate, MgNb2O6)는 우수한 유전 특성(상대 유전상수=18.4)을 나타내기 때문에 마이크로파 유전체로 응용 가능하며, 단일상 릴랙서 페라브스카이트(relaxor perovskite) Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3을 합성하기 위한 전구체 (precursor)로 널리 사용되고 있으며, 나이오븀산염 이온에서 다양한 색상을 방출하는 활성제 이온으로 효율적인 에너지 전달이 일어남으로써 Sm3+, Dy3+, Eu3+와 같은 희토류 이온의 좋은 모체 격자로 개발할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 마그네슘 니오베이트 MgNb2O6 모체 결정에 다양한 활성제 이온, 즉 Eu3+, Sm3+, Dy3+, Tb3+를 선택적으로 주입하여 발광 효율이 높은 천연색 형광체를 합성하고자 한다. 특히, 모체 결정에 주입되는 활성제 이온 주위의 국소적인 환경이 반전 대칭에서 변형되는 척도를 조사하여 활성제의 주 발광 파장의 세기가 최대가 되는 최적의 조건을 결정하고자 한다. Mg1-1.5xNb2O6:REx3+ 형광체 분말 시료는 초기 물질 MgO, Nb2O5와 희토류 이온을 화학 반응식에 맞게 정밀 저울로 측량하여 플라스틱 용기에 ZrO2 볼과 함께 넣고, 소정의 에탄올을 채운 뒤 밀봉하고서, 300 rpm의 속도로 20시간 볼밀 (ball-mill) 작업을 수행하였다. 그 후, 체(sieve)로 ZrO2 볼을 걸러낸 다음에 혼합된 용액을 각 비커에 담아서 $40^{\circ}C$의 건조기에서 24시간 건조하였고, 건조된 시료를 막자 사발에 넣고 잘게 갈고 80 ${\mu}m$의 체로 걸러낸 후에, 알루미나 도가니에 활성제 이온별로 각각 담아, 전기로에 장입하여 매분당 $5^{\circ}C$의 비율로 온도를 상승시켜 $350^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 동안 하소 공정을 실시한 후에, 온도를 계속 일정한 율로 증가시켜 $1,200^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 동안 소성하여 합성하였다. 합성된 형광체 분말의 결정 구조는 $Cu-K{\alpha}$ 복사선(파장: 1.5406)을 사용하여 X-선회절장치로 측정하였으며, 형광체의 표면 형상은 전계형 주사전자현미경으로 관측하였다. 흡광와 발광스펙트럼은 제논 램프를 광원으로 갖는 형광 광도계를 사용하여 측정하였다. 모체 결정에 활성제 이온 Eu3+, Sm3+, Dy3+, Tb3+가 도핑된 형광체 분말은 각각 적색, 주황색, 황색, 녹색 발광이 관측되었다. 각 발광 스펙트럼과 결정 입자의 크기와 형상 사이의 상호 관계를 조사하였다. 실험 결과로부터, 각 형광체의 발광 파장은 활성제 이온의 종류 와 서로 밀접하게 관련되어 있으며, 형광체 시료 합성시 활성제 이온의 농도를 선택적으로 조절함으로써 발광의 세기를 제어할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Onion has been reported to contain various organosulfur compounds which have antibiotic and anticarcinogenic properties and flavonoid like quercetin which is a valuable natural source of antioxidants. Carbohydrates in onion constitute about 80% of dry matter, and the major non-structural carbohydrate of onion bulb is fructo-oligosaccharides, well known as fructan, followed by glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The sugar concentration is associated with dormancy and storage life of onion, occurring as decrease in glucose, fructose and fructan, particularly towards the end of storage. Forced air pre-drying for 15-20 days at room temperature is an essential procedure to reduce freezing injury and sprouting, then onion bulbs can be stored at $0^{\circ}C$ for 6 months to control sprouting and decay. Bacterial soft rot caused by $Erwinia$ and $Pseudomonas$ is the main postharvest disease when the bulbs are infected with the bacteria and stored at room temperature. Browning in sliced onion is due to oxidation of phenolic compounds by polyphenol oxidase and it can be inhibited by citric acid treatment, packing with nitrogen gas, and polyethylene film.

Antioxidant Activities of Green and Purple Kohlrabi Juices (녹색 및 자색 콜라비 착즙액의 항산화 활성)

  • In this study, we investigated the antioxidant activity of green kohlrabi juice (GKJ) and purple kohlrabi juice (PKJ) using various in vitro methods. The results of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activities, ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), reducing power, and nitrite scavenging activities showed that GKJ possessed higher antioxidant activity than PKJ. Green kohlrabi powder (GKJP) and purple kohlrabi powder (PKJP) inhibited hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death in human dermal fibroblasts. In addition, GKJP and PKJP suppressed intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production induced by hydrogen peroxide in human dermal fibroblasts. These results suggest that green and purple kohlrabi juices are potential natural sources of antioxidants.

  • Antioxidative activities of ethanol extracts of seed, branch, leaves, and aerial part of Crotalaria sessiflora L. were compared using in vitro experimental model. Solid contents of each extracts were 12.68, 16.28, 13.04, and 18.59 g/ 100 mL, and phenolic acid contents were $0.082{\pm}0.003,\;0.099{\pm}0.010,\;0.071{\pm}0.002,\;and\;0.094{\pm}0.011\;mg/mL$ in branch, aerial part, seed, and leaves, respectively. Extracts prepared from leaves showed highest electron-donating ability toward DPPH. SOD-liked activities were 78.95, 70.85, 74.65, and 87.49% in aerial part, branch, seed, an leaves respectively. Extracts prepared from leaves showed 59.39% inhibitory effect on peroxidation of egg yolk lecithin.

Effect of n-6/n-3 fatty acid ratio on hepatic glycerolipid partitioning in second generation rats (n-6/n-3 지방산 비율이 차세대 랫드의 지질대사 분할에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of diets with different omega-6 (n-6) and omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid ratios (0, 1.2: 1, 8: 1, 19: 1) on mechanisms of partitioning of in vivo hepatic glycerolipid metabolism in next generation rats. Biomonitoring techniques were used in rats (jugular vein cannula were attached). The range of $^{14}CO_2$ exhaled by glycerolipid metabolism was 7.05-20.17% in the group having diet with n-6/n-3 ratio less than 8:1. It was the lowest in the control group. Total glycerolipid was the highest in the control group. For groups with different n-6/n-3 ratio, it had the following order: 19:1>8:1>1.2:1. Secreted triglyceride was decreased by 36.35%, 20.93%, and 13.72% in 1.2:1,8:1, and 19:1 groups, respectively, compared to that in the control group. The ratio of phospholipid to total glycerolipid was 1.38, 1.29, and 1.17 times higher in 1.2:1, 8:1, and 19:1 groups, respectively, compared to that in the control group. The ratio of $^{14}CO_2$ to total glycerolipid was 1.61, 1.52, and 1.29 times higher in 1.2:1, 8:1, and 19:1 groups, respectively, compared to that in the control group.

Effects of Drying Method on N-Nitrosamine Formation in Squid during Its Drying (오징어의 건조방법이 N-Nitrosamine의 생성에 미치는 영향)

  • To examine effects of drying methods on the formation of N-nitrosamine(NA) in squid during its drying. Three different types of dried products, which were made by sun, hot-air and traditional drying of squid after removal of intestines, were utilized. NA was analyzed by a gas chromatography-thermal energy analyzer. The contents of nitrate and nitrite nitrogen in dried products were in the range of 0 to 5.2mg/kg and 0 to 2.7mg/kg, respectively. The contents of TMAO and betain nitrogen in squid during its drying decreased, while those of TMA and DMA nitrogen increased. The contents in dried products were 27.8~29.2mg% and 10.4~12.3mg/kg, respectively. N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was only detected in squid during its drying, recovery from raw sample and its dried pro- ducts spiked with 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/kg for NDPA was 81.0~ 100.0%. NDMA in raw samples was found to be below 0.05$\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. The levels of NDMA in squid increased remarkably during its drying and those in dried products were ranged from 2.7 to 42.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. The effects of drying methods in squid were found to be quite different. the levels of NDMA in traditionally dried products were 11~16 and 3~4 times higher than those in sun dried and hot-air dried products, respectively It is believed that high levels of NDMA were detected in traditionally dried products because NDMA was formed from reaction between various amines and nitrogen oxide produced by combustion of briquet during drying of squid.

  • 알루미늄 합금 재질은 무게의 경량화와 기계적강도가 우수하며 다른 비철금속에 비하여 값이 저렴한 장점이 있다. 현재 산업현장에서 활용하는 가장 흔한 접합법으로 TIG, RSW 등과 같은 용융 용접법을 현재는 많이 사용 하고 있지만 열전도도가 높아 열 확산이 빠르고, 이에 따라 모재의 팽창이 일어나 열변형을 유발하며, 산화피막은 그 내부에 함유된 결정수가 아크용접 중 분해되어 수소를 방출함으로 기공이 발생하여 부도체로 저항용접시 전도성을 방해하는 등의 문제를 발생시킨다. 또한 철에 비해 4배정도 큰 전기전도율에 따라 저항용접시 대전류를 사용해야 하는 등의 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 이와 같은 알루미늄 합금의 용융용접 과정에서 발생하는 단점을 극복하는 기술로 고상접합 방법인 마찰교반용접법(Friction Stir Welding)이 활용되고 있다. FSW는 1991년 영국의 TWI에서 개발된 최신 용접법으로 모재를 용융점 아래에서 고상용접시키는 방법으로 용융에 따른 열변형과 흄가스(hume gas)와 스패터(spatter)를 억제시켜 주는 친환경적인 용접법이다. 이러한 마찰교반용접의 기술은 그동안 특허에 따른 로열티가 산업현장에서 사용하는데 문제가 되었으나 특허보호 기간인 20년이 1년정도의 기간밖에 남지 않은 상황에서 그 사용은 날로 증가하리라 본다. 이러한 마찰교반용접부의 결함을 평가하는 방법에는 UT, RT 등이 활용되고 있으나 얇은 박판에서의 결함검출은 용이하지 않다. 이리한 문제점을 해결하기위하여 초음파 가진을 이용한 적외선 열화상 검출 기법을 이용하여 마찰교반용접부의 결함 검출 가능성을 연구하였다. 20kHz의 주파수를 400Watt로 가진시켜 겹치기(lap joint) 마찰교반용접이된 A6061-T6의 용접부에 초음파를 입사하였을 때 발생하는 열을 적외선 열화상 카메라를 이용하여 측정함으로써 마찰교반겹치기 용접부의 결함 검출에 활용하였다. 용접부에 초음파를 입사하였을 때 부분적으로 온도차이가 발생하였고, 그에 따른 열화상을 검출 할 수 있었다. 이러한 열화상과 실제 시험편의 용접부의 강도를 평가하기 위하여 인장시험을 하였다. 그 결과 초음파 적외선 열화상 검출에서 발열부위가 나타난 부분이 인장시험에서 낮은 인장강도를 보였다.

Antioxidant and Neuronal Cell Protective Effects of an Extract of Houttuynia cordata Thunb (a Culinary Herb) (어성초 추출물의 항산화 및 신경세포 보호효과)

  • The in vitro antioxidant activities and neuronal cell protective effects of 60% (w/v) methanolic extract from Houttuynia cordata were investigated. The contents of total phenolics and quercitrin in the extract were 17.71 mg/g and 75.80 ${\mu}g$/g, respectively. DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging activities were 87.79% and 99.27%, respectively, when the extract was tested at 5 mg/ml. The FRAP (ferric reducing/antioxidant power) assay showed a dose-dependent increse in activity. In a cell viability assay using MTT, the extract protected against $H_2O_2$-induced neurotoxicity. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage was also inhibited by the extract, as was lipid peroxidation as shown using the mouse brain homogenate test. These data indicate that a 60% (w/v) methanolic extract of Houttuynia cordata has in vitro antioxidant activities, and ingestion there of may reduce the risk of developing neurodegenerative disorders.

  • Sleep plays an important role in maintaining overall human health. There is increasing interest regarding the impact of sleep related disorders on metabolic diseases. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common health problem, and in the last decade, the emergence of increasing obesity rates has further led to a remarkable increase in the prevalence of OSA, along with more prominent metabolic diseases. Obesity is the strongest risk factor for OSA. However, OSA is also known to cause obesity, suggesting an interaction between OSA and obesity. Although the underlying mechanisms leading to OSA-induced metabolic diseases are probably multi-factorial and are yet to be fully elucidated, the activation of inflammation and oxidative stress and the dysregulation of appetite-regulating hormones have emerged as important pathophysiological components of metabolic dysfunction and obesity observed in patients with OSA. Here, we will review the current state of research regarding the association of OSA with metabolic diseases and the possible pathophysiological mechanisms by which OSA could lead to such diseases. This will enhance our understanding of the potential interactions between OSA and obesity and between OSA and metabolic dysfunction.
