This paper points out the importance and necessity of 'non-representational cultural studies' in South Korea. For this, Stuart Hall's seminal research "Encoding/Decoding" (1980) is to be re-read thoroughly with articulation of his later practices. Along with, this research looks at how non-representational cultural studies can expand the scope of understanding various comtemporary phenomenon of our society usually untold by mainstream cultural studies' themes and methods which focus more on abstract division and representational discourses. Notably, Stuart Hall's influential early writings and practical later engagements could bring us to think more seriously not only where contemporary cultural studies goes but also where cultural studies in South Korea should go. This article narrows the attention into Hall's EC/DC theory and related research-practical activity influenced by his own philosophy. Indeed, cultural studies in South Korea still seems to be almost same as early Birmingham cultural studies especially in the aspects like research direction and theme; however, that is quite unusual in some points. These points are to be explicated by this attempt of following Hall's meaningful life-long trajectory as a cultural activist as well as media theorist.

The paper examines the recent criticism from various viewpoints on landscape research in 'New cultural geography' focusing on the representation and duplicity of landscape as one of the key theoretical basis of the landscape school. The paper argues that landscape theories in new cultural geography should be considered as what is constantly changing over time and composed of various theoretical and genealogical elements rather than internally homogeneous, fixed, and closed system of knowledge. Through the recent 'phenomenological turn' of geography, landscape researchers explores a possibility of alternative approach to the existing theories and methods, which is so called NRT(Non-representational theory). The research objectives of the paper is to examine the theoretical and practical implications of such significant criticisms, which put emphasis on the idea of landscape as performance and practice rather than landscape as representation in cultural geography.

This research tried to project hidden and overall side of market economy system of capitalism through desire and fetishism of consumer society. The objective of this research lies in examining desire code of capitalism society through hidden side of consumer society and the reason why modern people are crazy about products, the meaning of product re-creation in tempting modern consumer society, life where all desire is satisfied by products. As a result, we intended to demonstrate that post-industrial society is the one triggered by desire and that society desired in post-industrial society is the very cultural, social study realized to enable modern people to survive in modern society through Martin Parr's pictures.

We understand the real form with light and it make us to visualize the world. Hence, light have got a great influence on formative arts in many ways from ancient time to now. Invisible and substantial light is described by many representational tools in various way and project the illusion. Projected illusion caused the change in human and general social culture. For such a reason, the representation of light is most important issue without distinction of age, space and genre. Now we are faced with CGI light just same as real light. So we need to study about properties of CGI light representation.

This study aims to examine the representations of elders in reality shows focusing on gender disparity by employing a textual analysis and audience interviews. According to findings, as for elderly men, various images are presented while as for elderly women, traditional gender images are mainly reproduced. In the audience reception, the audiences' understanding of genres and their preexisting gender perceptions have important roles on their interpretations in the ways of producing gender discriminated meanings.

This study aims at analyzing the trend of feeling under the neo-liberalism era through the soap operas. In particular, this article focuses on 'envy'. Unlike jealousy, envy is the feeling of comparison appearing in people in similar circumstances that is displayed within the dual relation with its characteristic of having dynamics on the fortune (victory) of the other party for an unpleasant feeling, denial and interference. However, under the neo-liberalistic order with unlimited competition as its characteristic, 'envy' has the tendency to discourse with its passion of subjects participating in the limited share of competition. This begins in 'envy' under a soap opera to lead to competition to reproduce as the drama to dream of success for self-development. Under the circumstances, the feeling or behavior of characters not showing the general pattern but to individualize with the envious behavior of evil characters to turn away from the structural context for characters of issue of suffering originated within. For example, the soap opera imagines with 'envy' for the feeling of characters to reproduce the neo-liberalistic subject in darkness as well as to transfigure the suffering or context encountered by the characteristics to present the issues.

모니터를 통해 디스플레이 되는 이미지들은 입력 및 출력장치들의 장치 의존적 컬러 신호의 차이와 입력 신호값에 대한 출력 신호 값의 비선형적인 변환으로 인해 원고와 최종 출력물의 컬러에 색상의 차이가 발생한다. 정확한 색재현을 위해서는 올바른 색변환이 이뤄져야 하며 이를 위해서는 필요한 CMS의 도입이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이에 본지에서는 얼마전 국내 최초 첫 여성인쇄공학박사로 탄생된 조가람씨의 학위논문을 통해 입.출력 장치의 색변환 방법과 장치의 특성에 대해 살펴보는 자리를 마련했다. 다음은 조가람 씨가 박사학위 논무으로 제출한 '전자출판에서 입.출력 장치의 컬러 관리에 관한 연구'를 요약, 정리한 것으로 총 3회에 걸쳐 연재한다.

The film has always reflected the culture of the era based on reality and imagination. The visual effect in the film has mainly played a role of expressing the reality more realistically or recognizing the virtual as reality. This study examines the meaning and the effect of fantasy realism through Oasis of Lee Chang-dong. Fantastic realism has separated the reality from the imaginary space by using a dual meaning tool that affects the time and space in the film and reflects the human desire and desire to see. It was also reproduced in the real world through the medium of pigeons. In addition, it separates visualized space from non-visualized space in film narrative structure, separation of real and unreal space, segregation of consciousness and unconscious space, and separation of reality and reality space into power structure. With the development of technology, the image of the yellow image comes closer to us like reality, which will express the space of unconsciousness that we could not think of.

최근 지방 도시들이 지역의 전통 문화와 문화재 그리고 이들과 연관된 지역 문화축제에 관심을 기울이면서 조선시대 각 읍치에 설치되었던 관영시설(官營施設)들을 복원 정비하고 있다. 지방 관영시설의 복원 정비후 대두되는 중요한 과제는 무엇보다 그의 활용 문제라 할 수 있는데, 이와 관련하여 과거 읍치의 관영시설에서 행해졌던 행례의 재현이 자주 거론되고 있다. 그러나 증폭된 관심과 현실적 요구에 비하여 관련분야의 연구는 극히 미약한 실정이다. 이는 무엇보다 관련 자료가 매우 적고 제한적이란 점에 기인한 것으로 관련 자료의 발굴 검토가 중요한 선결 과제로 대두되고 있다. 본고는 이러한 점에 중점을 두고 조선시대 지방관이 작성한 일기류(日記類)를 발굴하여 그 내용을 조사 검토하였으며, 검토된 일기류를 토대로 지방 읍치시설의 이용과 관련된 내용을 살펴 향후 지방관 작성 일기류가 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다.

This study examines how East Asia is represented in US World Geography textbooks and what kind of cultural and political epistemological frameworks are embedded in those representation focused on China and Japan. For this, four World Geography textbooks that widely used in public middle school throughout the State of Connecticut are selected as the major units of analysis and analyzed using content analysis. The results are as follows. First, The textbooks have the cultural epistemological framework that East Asia are portrayed not only as homegenous and static world but also as exotic world whose mode of life is quite different from that the West. Second, China are represented as having more traditional and negative images, whereas Japan are portrayed as receiving more modern and positive images in the textbooks. This difference is caused by the relationship between the U.S. and them and imply that the epistemological framework on East Asia of American can change according to the relationship between the U.S. and East Asia. Third, the textbooks seem to be dominated by colonialism epistemological framework that emphasize hierarchical order between the U.S. and East Asia and omit East Asian countries' contribution to global cultures and economies as political epistemological framework. These findings suggest the need to investigate the epistemological frameworks underlying World Geography textbooks used Korean classroom about neighbor Asia or non-Western societies.
