The transmission coefficients of impermeable submerged breakwater on permeable bottom are computed numerically using a boundary element method. The analysis method is based on the wave pressure function with the continuity in the analytical region including fluid and structures. Wave motion over permeable bottom is simulated by introducing a linear dissipation coefficient and an added mass coefficient. The results indicate that the wave over permeable bottom travels being damped, and that transmission coefficients for permeable bottom are smaller than those for impermeable bottom, and result from the change of width and height of submerged breakwater.

This paper presents application of a differential search (DS) meta-heuristic optimization algorithm for optimal operation of a micro grid system. The DS algorithm simulates the Brownian-like random-walk movement used by an organism to migrate. The micro grid system consists of a wind turbine, a diesel generator, a fuel cell, and a photovoltaic system. The wind turbine generator is modeled by considering the characteristics of variable output. Optimization is aimed at minimizing the cost function of the system, including fuel costs and maximizing fuel efficiency to generate electric power. The simulation was applied to a micro grid system only. This study applies the DS algorithm with excellence and efficiency in terms of coding simplicity, fast convergence speed, and accuracy in the optimal operation of micro grids based on renewable energy resources, and we compared its optimum value to other algorithms to prove its superiority.

This paper deals with an acoustic model for a lean premixed gas turbine combustor composed of three stages: premixing chamber, nozzle and flame tube. Our model is given as an acoustic transfer function whose input is a heat release rate perturbation and output is a velocity perturbation at a flame location. We have shown that the resonance frequencies are functions of three round-trip frequencies of acoustic wave in each stage, and area ratios between stages. By analyzing poles of the acoustic transfer function, we could characterize resonant frequencies and their dependency on various system parameters of a combustor. It was found that our analytic findings match with existing numerical and experimental results in literature.

An analysis model is developed to evaluate the dynamic responses of a bridge system under seismic excitations, in which pounding actions between girders are considered in addition to other phenomena such as nonlinear pier motion, rotational and translational motions of foundations. The model also considers the abutment and restrainers connecting adjacent girders to prevent the unseating failures. Using the developed model, the longitudinal dynamic behaviors of a bridge system are examined for various peak ground accelerations, and the effects of the applied restrainers are investigated. It is found that the restrainers reduce the relative displacement with the shorter clearance length as well as the higher stiffness of the restrainers for moderate excitations. However, in the region with strong excitations the restrainers may yield due to the large relative displacement. Therefore, the extension of support length in addition to restrainers may need to prevent the unseating failure more effectively.
In this research, to get over restrictions of a field expreiment, we modeled a planning road through the 3D Virtual Reality and achieved data about dynamic response related to sector fluctuation and about driver's visual behavior on testers' driving the Driving Simulator Car with Eye Camera. We made constant efforts to reduce the non-reality and side effect of Driving Simulator on maximizing the accord between motion reproduction and virtual reality based on data Driving Simulator's graphic module achieved by dynamic analysis module. Moreover, we achieved data of driver's natural visual behavior using Eye Camera(FaceLAB) that is able to make an expriment without such attaching equipments such as a helmet and lense. In this paper, to evaluate the level of road's safety, we grasp the meaning of the fluctuation of safety that drivers feel according to change of road geometric structure with methods of Driving Simulator and Eye Camera and investigate the relationship between road geometric structure and safety level. Through this process, we suggest the method to evaluate the road making drivers comfortable and pleasant from planning schemes.

In general, the ocean wave vibration power generator consists of buoy, vibration system and linear generation system. It maximized energy efficiency by using resonance phenomenon that turned to the natural frequency of vibration system and frequency of ocean wave energy. But it is difficult to obtain efficiently energy from ocean wave because the frequency of ocean wave changes from moment to moment. In this paper, we study the buoy and vibration system of ocean wave power generator to solve these problem. Firstly, we designed the buoy that gives rise to resonance between ocean wave and buoy. Secondly, we designed vibration system that is occurred to resonance between buoy and vibration system. And then the relative velocity between the buoy and magnetic of ocean wave vibration generator increases and the relative displacement between buoy and ocean wave decreases at the same time. As a result, the method which is proposed in this paper has merits not only securing its stability from harsh ocean wave environment but also obtaining more kinetic energy from ever-changing ocean wave.

In this study steady state solutions of cavity flows driven by two moving walls are studied. The north and east walls of the cavity are movable where as the remaining two walls are fixed in space. Numerical experiments for three different driving schemes for moving walls are done at two different Reynolds numbers of Re=40 and 400. The first scheme is to accelerate north and east walls simultaneously. In the second one, the north wall is started first and the east wall is accelerated later. In the third one the east wall starts first. It is usually expected that all these three cases yield the same steady state solution after sufficiently long time. However, present numerical experiments show that such a usual belief is valid only when the Reynolds number is low enough (Re=40). At higher Reynolds number (Re=400), the flow develops to three different steady states depending on the history of the boundary condition change.

Reflection coefficients of wave due to the types of a submerged breakwater on the inclined incident wave are numerically computed by using boundary element method. The analysis method is based on the wave pressure function with the continuity in the analytical region including fluid and structures. When compared with the existing results on the inclined incident wave, the results of this study show good agreement. It is found that both maximum and minimum values of the reflection coefficient are appeared frequently, as the width of a submerged breakwater becomes wider, and the reflection coefficient increase, as the wave period is longer. In addition, the effect on the reflection coefficient due to the change of submerged breakwater hight is lager than that due to the change of submerged breakwater width. The results indicate that dissipating characteristics of wave due to the types of a submerged breakwater own high dependability regarding the change of inclined incident waves. Therefore, the results of this study is estimated to be applied as an accurate numerical analysis referring to inclined incident waves in real sea.

In order to improve dynamic stall characteristics of an oscillating airfoil, optimal design has been performed for fixed nose droop and Gurney flap. Fixed nose droop is known to be very effective to improve pitching moment characteristics but may cause degeneration of aerodynamic lift at the same time. On the other hand, Gurney flap has the opposite characteristics. For fixed nose droop, location and angle are chosen as design variables, while length is defined as design variable for Gurney flap. Higher order response surface methodology and sensitivity based optimal design method are employed to handle highly nonlinear problem such as dynamic stall. Optimal design has been performed so that lift and pitching moment are simultaneously improved. The design results show that aerodynamic characteristics can be remarkably improved through present design approach and the present passive control method is as good as active control method which combines variable nose droop and Gurney flap.

In order to design a safe and economic catamaran, it is of clime importance to rigorously estimate the dynamic loads on the catamaran in waves. In this paper, the 2-D strip method by Lee et al.[3] is. extended to a 3-D method which can estimate the dynamic loads(horizontal and vertical shear forses, and bending and torsional moments) acting on the center of the cross deck of the catamaran travelling in an arbitrary wave heading angle. The computational results are compared with Wahab et al's experimental data[2], and also 2-D and 3-D numerical results published. It is found that in general, the 3-D method give much improved correlations with the experimental data compared with 2-D methods, but there are some discrcrepancy between the same 3-D results used by the same theory. In order to improve the accuracy, the effect of the viscous flow and the rigid consideration of the forward speed effect seem to be necessary.
