  • A robot crane truck is developed by the Bridge Inspection Robot Development Interface(BRIDI) for an automated and/or teleoperated bridge inspection. This crane truck looks similar to the conventional bucket crane, but is much smaller in size and light-weight. At the end of the telescoping boom which is 12m long, a robot platform is mounted which allows the operator to scan the bridge structure under the deck trough the camera. Boom vibration induced by wind and deck movement can cause serious problems in this scanning system. This paper presents a control system to mitigate such vibration of the robot boom. In the proposed control system, an actuator is installed at the end of the working boom. This control system is studied using a mathematical model analysis with LQ control algorithm and a scaled model test in the laboratory. The study indicates that the proposed system is efficient for the vibration control of the robot booms, thereby demonstrating its immediate applicability in the field.

  • This paper deals with development of an oil boom computation program (OBC Program) for effective response to oil spill. Currently, programs for showing required minimum quantities of oil skimmers and temporary storage tanks have been developed. However, a program for oil boom has not developed, which causes difficulties in oil spill management. The OBC program was developed using LabVIEW 2010 for solving above problems. The OBC program has following strengths: 1. Both experts and non-experts can calculate required quantities of oil booms, 2. The program can save response time, 3. It can reduce damage to properties and marine environment in proportion to reduced response time.

For this purpose, 369 who come under the category of the first- and second-generation baby boomers were selected by convenient sampling from among the participants in the programs of the life-long educational institutes in Seoul metropolitan area and questionnaires of self-administered type were distributed to them. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and hierarchial regression analysis which used input of mean-centered variables and interaction term were conducted to determine the moderating effects of social supports based on the replies to the questionnaires. The major outcomes of the analyses could be summed up as follows: first, the stress and depression suffered by the first and second generations of baby boomers turned out to have negative (-) influence upon their psychological well-being; second, the social supports for those two generations were found to exercise positive (+) effects upon their psychological well-being; and third, a survey of difference in the moderating effects of social supports between the first- and second-generation baby boomers showed that, in case of the first generation, the worse their economic status and the higher their stress and depression were, the lower their psychological well-being tended to be and that social supports functioned to hike their psychological well-being but had moderating effects only in connection with stress. In case of the second generation, however, it was shown that the higher their stress and depression got, the lower their psychological well-being developed and that social supports might increase their psychological well-being but without any moderating effects on the part of relationship with their stress and depression. A practical and political method was discussed to improve baby boomers mental health.

  • This study examines the effect of consumption level on the life satisfaction of baby-boom generation and further examines the mediating effect of subjective expectation(standard of living and government policy). This research uses the panel survey to explore ageing society in 2012 made by Korean Labor Institute, which studied 1,756(born in 1955~1961). SPSS 21.0 Package was applied to analyze the date and multi-regression analysis was conducted. As a result, first, the findings show that as the consumption level increases, the life satisfaction of the baby-boom generation goes up. Second, the findings reveal that subjective expectation partially mediates the influences of consumption level on the life satisfaction of baby-boom generation. This study further discusses the theoretical and political implication of the direction properties on baby-boomer based upon the results of the study.
