Numerical Simulation of 72m-Long Ultra High Performance Concrete Pre-Stressed Box Girder (72m 초고강도 콘크리트 프리스트레스트 박스 거더의 수치 해석)

  • The study presents a three-dimensional approach to simulate the nonlinear behavior of a 72 m long Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) pre-stressed box girder for a pedestrian bridge in Busan, South Korea. The concrete damage plasticity (CDP) model is adopted to model the non-linear behavior of the UHPFRC material, in which the material properties are obtained from uniaxial compressive and tensile tests. The simulation model based on the proposed stress-strain curve is validated by the results of four-point bending model tests of a 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. The results from the simulation models agree with the experimental observations and predict the flexural behavior of the 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder accurately. Afterward, the validated model is utilized to investigate the flexural behavior of the 72 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. Here, the load-deflection curve, stress status of the girder at various load levels, and connection details is analyzed. The load-deflection curve is also compared with design load to demonstrate the great benefit of the slender UHPFRC box girder. The obtained results demonstrate the applicability of the nonlinear finite element method as an appropriate option to analyze the flexural behavior of pre-stressed long-span girders.

  • The management of severe scoliosis remains a challenge to spine surgeons. The rapid intraoperative correction of severe scoliosis may increase the risk of perioperative complications, such as neurological compromise and implant failure. To minimize these risks, various preoperative traction methods have been employed to achieve partial correction before performing definitive corrective surgery. On the other hand, some studies have shown that one of the complications associated with halo traction could lead to cranial nerve palsy, with the sixth nerve (abducens nerve) being most commonly affected. To reduce the complications, gradual increases in the traction weight and detailed neurological examinations are needed, particularly for patients who have previously undergone brain or cervical surgery. The authors report a case of sixth cranial nerve palsy by preoperative halo-pelvic traction in patients with severe scoliosis who underwent previous decompression surgery for a Chiari I malformation with a review of the relevant literature.

Exploring the Effect of Wearing the Knobble Shoes on Body Shape Change (혹달린신발의 착용이 인체의 체형변화에 미치는 효과 탐색)

  • Background: It is essential to investigate the functionality of the newly developed knobble shoe. Purpose: The purpose was to explore how the body shape and balance change when wearing knobble shoes. Methods: Nine subjects wearing knobble shoes after walking for a month were analyzed. Results: For knobble shoes, we created various small air pockets in the insole to stimulate the soles of the feet to induce body changes. In particular, it was to promote the arch part of the foot by making a large lump inside and outside the center of the foot's arch. After wearing knobble shoes and using them for 30 days, the average blood sugar decreased by 31.1 mg. The lowering range was 5 to 120 mg. In one patient, the result of the hemoglobin test decreased by 7.5% to 6.5%. In the shoulder tapping test for a body balance test, seven subjects leaned to the right in a barefoot state, and two people to the left. However, after wearing shoes, all of them maintained equilibrium. knobble shoes fit, and balance was all stable. There were two subjects with a short left and four subjects with a short right. Conclusions: Blood sugar decreased after wearing the knobble shoes. The deformed shape of the body was restored to its original state by the knobble supporting the foot arch area. The balance of the sole directly affects the overall posture.

  • The possibility of metaverse system to be a catalyst for hyper-connected society will be dependent on the speed of connected technological development and its social utilization in the same manner as AI technology. Putting these technical realization processes in brackets, this paper focus on some philosophical-political issues in connection with cognitive-ecological changes in the future cinema which will be influenced by the complexive techno-socio couples of accelerated development of metaverse system. Generally speaking, essence of metaverse system seems to be the degree of immersion by technical accuracy, but is not true. In perspective of cognitive-ecology, flow degree of a picture or photograph is relied not on 'accuracy of representation' but on its message's contextual link-up. In this aspect, real potentiality of metaverse system shall be understood in the context of cognitive-ecological changes of human brain's multi-intelligence networking abilities(intersection of augmentation-simulation and outside-inside) which will be activated in the new structure of natural-social-technological coupling of metaverse system. These cognitive-ecological potentialities have been partially actualized in the cinematic process of tripod mimesis for the longest time, [real contradiction/conflicts (Mimesis-1) -->fictional solutions of cinema (Mimesis-2) --> selective interpretation of spectator's wish fulfillment (Mimesis-3) --> real change (Mimesis-1')]. Therefore metaverse's real potentiality must be considered to be dependent on the possibility of deepening and extending of cinematic circulation between real seperation/problems and ideal connection/solutions. In this context, advanced metaverse system can be compared as a modern technical version of ideal circulation of physics and metaphysics

A Study on Chinese Character Expressions of Dynamic Poster Design Based on Kinetic Typography Principle - Focused on '24 Solar Terms' Theme Poster - (키네틱 타이포그래피 원리에 기반을 둔 다이나믹 포스터 디자인의 한자 표현방식에 관한 연구 - '24절기' 테마 포스터를 중심으로 -)

  • Based on the kinetic typography principle and the structure features of Chinese characters, this study took the Chinese'24 solar terms' theme dynamic poster as the research object, explored the visual expression of dynamic Chinese characters, and tried to summarize the visual expression law of Chinese characters in dynamic poster design. It can be found that, there could be 6 different types of Chinese character expressions in the 24 solar terms poster design. Among them, 'Drawing' design method has the meaning of text structure and form expression, and 'Assembling' design method has the meaning of text stroke and texture association, also, 'Forming' design method bring its meaning through stroke deformation, 'Transforming' design method conveys the content through text disintegration, 'Replacing' design method mainly bring the meaning through simulation, while 'Rotation' design method always express through visual three-dimensional and space. Finally, the findings could not only provide analytical logic and methods for the expression of Chinese characters in dynamic poster design, but also fill the lack of formative research on dynamic Chinese characters, which hopefully provide basic information for the research related to dynamic Chinese character structure, as well as the dynamic poster designers.

Experimental Evaluation of the Effect of Fine Contents on the Formation of Underground Cavities and Ground Cave-ins by Damaged Sewer Pipes (하수관 손상으로 인한 지하공동 및 지반함몰 발생에 대해 세립분 함량이 미치는 영향의 실험적 평가)

  • In this study, we evaluated the effect of soil fine contents on the formation of underground cavities and ground cave-ins induced by damaged sewer pipes. Simulating the domestic rainfall conditions and ground conditions, model tests were performed under three different fine particle contents conditions (7.5%, 15%, and 25%). By repeating the groundwater supply and drainage twice, ground settlement and the amount of discharged soil were obtained. Also, digital images were taken at regular time intervals during the model tests, and internal displacement and deformation were measured using PIV technique. As the cycles were repeated, the soil with high fine content showed greater resistance to the formation of underground cavities. The ground cave-ins, identified by the collapse of the surface, occurred only when the fine particle content was 15%. It is presumed to be due to the suffusion phenomenon; further study was needed to investigate the effect of fine particle contents on the suffusion phenomenon and associated changes of soil strength.

  • In this paper, we propose a vector-based augmentation technique that can generate data required for crack detection and a ConvNet(Convolutional Neural Network) technique that can learn it. Detecting cracks quickly and accurately is an important technology to prevent building collapse and fall accidents in advance. In order to solve this problem with artificial intelligence, it is essential to obtain a large amount of data, but it is difficult to obtain a large amount of crack data because the situation for obtaining an actual crack image is mostly dangerous. This problem of database construction can be alleviated with elastic distortion, which increases the amount of data by applying deformation to a specific artificial part. In this paper, the improved crack pattern results are modeled using ConvNet. Rather than elastic distortion, our method can obtain results similar to the actual crack pattern. By designing the crack data augmentation based on a vector, rather than the pixel unit used in general data augmentation, excellent results can be obtained in terms of the amount of crack change. As a result, in this paper, even though a small number of crack data were used as input, a crack database can be efficiently constructed by generating various crack directions and patterns.

Post-Liquefaction Induced Ground Settlement by Dissipation of Porewater Pressure under Drained Condition (지반 배수조건을 고려한 액상화 이후 과잉간극수압 소산에 따른 지반의 침하)

  • In the case of domestic seismic design, deformation of structures and ground is reviewed through undrained condition analysis and applied to design and maintenance. However, when the ground undergoes dissipation after liquefaction due to a dynamic load such as an earthquake, additional displacement occurs and greater damage occurs. Therefore, it is necessary to additionally analyze the drained conditions, It is necessary to grasp the exact ground behavior such as calculating and reviewing the amount of subsidence of the ground that has undergone the loss process after an earthquake and apply it to design and maintenance together. Therefore, in this study, numerical analysis was performed assuming undrained and drained conditions by dividing pure sandy soil into loose soil with Dr=30% and high-density soil with Dr=70%. In particular, when a dynamic load such as an earthquake is applied, considering the drained conditions of the ground, the settlement amount and the pore water pressure ratio of loose and dense ground are compared, This study focused on comparative analysis of settlement amount and pore water pressure ratio in the process of ground loss after an earthquake. As a result, the amount of subsidence during the dissipation process was 30 to 60 times greater than that of the earthquake.

Folding Analysis of Paper Structure and Estimation of Optimal Collision Conditions for Reversal (종이구조물의 접기해석과 반전을 위한 최적충돌조건의 산정)

  • This paper presents a model simulating the folding process and collision dynamics of "ddakji", a traditional Korean game played using paper tiles (which are also referred to as ddakji). The model uses two A4 sheets as the base materials for ddakji. The folding process involves a series of boundary conditions that transform the wing part of the paper structure into a twisted configuration. A rigid plate boundary condition is also adopted for squeezing, establishing the shape and stress state of the game-ready ddakji through dynamic relaxation analysis. The gaming process analysis involves a forced displacement of the striking ddakji to a predetermined collision position. Collision analysis then follows at a given speed, with the objective of overturning the struck ddakji--a winning condition. A genetic algorithm-based optimization analysis identifies the optimal collision conditions that result in the overturning of the struck ddakji. For efficiency, the collision analysis is divided into two stages, with the second stage carried out only if the first stage predicts a possible overturn. The fitness function for the genetic algorithm during the first stage is the direction cosine of the struck ddakji, whereas in the second stage, it is the inverse of the speed, thus targeting the lowest overall collision speed. Consequently, this analysis provides optimal collision conditions for various compression thicknesses.

Research on Artistic Artmask for Lifecaretainment (라이프케어테인먼트를 위한 예술적 아트마스크 연구)

  • This study is intended to present the direction of art mask design development and help people's life care by producing an art mask with the motif of the characteristic of abjection concept. It went through the definition and characteristics of abject and abjection focusing on previous research, professional books and art works. The characteristics of abjection based on theoretical research are to express death with dead bodies and skulls, including the dismantling of ideal beauty standards, the expression of fragmented bodies, and the expression of sick and alienated bodies. This researcher produced 6 research works by combining the fascinating abjection, induced by ugly and disgusting abject, to design factors. These works fragmented each part of the facial form by the cutting and dismantling, and made viewers feel the abjection by giving a grotesque deformation. The results obtained through the research works are as follows. First, It was found that the abjection characteristics-applied works was helpful in the treatment of the mental wound of modern people. Second, the production of works based on the abjection characteristics paved the way to expand the scope of art mask design concepts and establish the new design ideas. Third, the application of the motif using the abjection characteristics to the art mask design showed that the use of various objects could express creative designs and secure diversity in using materials. In the future, this researcher hopes that such research will be used as the basic data of the follow-up study on art mask design, and it will help develop art mask designs.
