Today, crime has become a serious threat to social safety so citizen's desire for safety has increased. So the private security has emerged as a new industry for safety and security and became a crucial component. Private security is responsible not only covers the limitations of the police work, but also fills citizen's desire of security. However, quantitative research on private security has rarely been done and the results of the private security study are not effectively utilized due to biased research trends in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of community incivility on fear of crime and the moderation effect of private security. To accomplish this purpose, this research uses 6,919 samples from the National Crime Victimization Survey(2014) and conducts hierarchical regression through STATA 13.0 program. As a results, private security guard showed the main effect on the generalized fear of crime, but had not a significant influence on the interaction effect with the community incivility. On the other hand, the moderation effect of electronic security was statistically significant in relation to the community incivility and specific fear of crime. In other words, in a place with high physical disorder, the fear of crime is relatively low in the case of the electronic machine, compared with the case where there is no electronic machine. The implications and limitations based on these results are discussed in the conclusion.

This study tries to find the possibility to prevent crime by improving urban spatial environment through the analysis of spatial environment property that mutually coincides or differs by comparing the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime. The method of study is as follows. First, the ontents scope and method of study was established by theoretic investigation of case study related to crime. Second, as crime cannot be prevented by police power only, CPSCP(Citizen Participation System for Crime Prevention) was developed so that all citizen can cooperatively participate in the crime prevention anytime and anywhere. Third, the data on the place where people feel fear in the region was collected by directly indicating the place where citizen is afraid of crime in the space by utilizing CPSCP. Fourth, the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime are redundantly analyzed for comparative analysis of 2 places. The result shows that environmental design improving physical environment of urban space is necessary to prevent crime and to eliminate the fear of crime. The CPSCP developed by this study which will be advanced to U-crime prevention system will contribute to making citizen's own neighborhood a smart safety city autonomously.

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between general fear of crime and specific fear of crime. Also, it is to suggest the way of analyzing fear of crime by summing up the two concepts. This study finds a reason why fear of crime varies from person to person within the same sex and similar age group. In particular, this study intends to analyze the models that affect fear of crime to figure out which is relevant to those in the high-risk group. And with the results, we can devise measurements to effectively reduce fear of crime in a local community. The following facts have been found in this study: positive correlation between general fear of crime and specific fear of crime, method of subdividing group with fear of crime, models that affect fear of crime and sub-items that greatly relate to high-risk groups.
This study aims to analyze the causes of the disabled people's fear of crimes and to provide the implication to relevant policies. For this, we scrutinize how the disabled perceive the fear toward felonies and the police action. Further, we empirically tested how police action and their recognition toward it affects the fear toward crimes, on the basis of collective efficacy and victimization which is believed to have effects on people's fear of crimes. As the physically disabled are incompetent to respond to the questions, we survey 122 person with physical disability for 25 branches of Seoul Association of Person Physically Disabled. Our regression results show negative correlations between collective efficacy and fear of crimes, which is in accord with preceding researches of the non-handicapped. While indirect victimization shows positive correlations with their fear toward crime, it is ot statistically significant in conventional confidence level. Contrarily, direct victimization shows positive correlation with it, and the coefficient is different from zero in conventional level. As it is proven from preceding studies, confidence in police action and their perception toward it has negative correlations with their fear of crimes.

Subjects were 140 students from one college located in H city using survey from June 17, 2022 to August 25, 2022. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and Stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 23.0 program. As a result of the study, fear of crime was correlated with social disorder, physical disorder among community characteristics, and perceived safety of CCTV. Also, social disorder among community characteristics was correlated with physical disorder, perceived safety of CCTV, and physical disorder was correlated with perceived safety of CCTV. The factors affecting perceived safety for CCTV were fear of crime and social disorder, and the explanatory power was 57.2%(Adjusted R2=.572). In conclusion, it is necessary to improve the perceived safety of CCTV by improving the awareness of fear of crime and social disorder.
This study seeks to analyze various aspects of women's fear of sexual crime committed against them within the Seoul metropolitan subway system, which takes center stage in public transportation today in Korea; that is, among different kinds of fear of crime, women's fear of sexual crime is empirically examined, and it is expected that the results of this study shall serve as an important basis for future policy-making, so that the fear of sexual crime against women in the subway system could be reduced. To the end, this study aims first, to investigate the real picture of women's using the subway and their attire, second, to look into the amount of information on such crime obtained and the level of its awareness, third, to analyze the characteristics of the fear of sexual crime in the subway system, and lastly, to empirically examine the relationship between women's regular women's regular attire/their level of information on such crime obtained and their fear of sexual crime. As a quantitative research method to discover facts, this study utilizes reality-analyztical and technical research methods, and for its final statistical analysis, uses questionnaire answered and returned by 509 women, out of a total of 520 female commuters on the Seoul metropolitan subway system who had originally been requested to participate in the survey. The result of this study demonstrates that the level of women's fear of sexual crime on the subway is relatively high. In detail, the higher their monthly income is, the more fearful women feel on the subway; it has also been found that women living in housing they own or in leased housing on deposits (Jeonse) fear sexual crime on the subway more than those living in the other forms of housing. However, the level of fear has been found to be low for those types of sexual crime judged to be relatively unlikely to be committed. Lastly the result of the relationship between women's regular attire/their level of information on such crime obtained and their fear of sexual crime is relatively high and very effective.
We often find that we, as a social group, share stereotypes of criminals. For the present study we investigated the stereotypes of rapists, and examined if they match their characteristics on the national crime statistics in Korea. Collecting data from 82 college students and 91 police officers, we compared stereotypes about rapists with the characteristics of those reported on the national crime statistics. As a result, we found that both college students and police officers have distorted stereotypes of rapists which are not consistent with their characteristics. More specifically, both college students and police officers believed that rapists came from broken families and that they were likely to have more previous criminal convictions than they actually did. In addition, both college students and police officers believed that rapists tended to recidivate within a short period of time, e.g. 1-3 months, which is much shorter than the time that actually took for them to recidivate. Finally, suggestions for future research were made.
This paper discusses how the strategies for crime prevention are interrelated to sustainable urban development. The sustainable urban development for healthy and safe cities implies regulations or legal, lawful control to reduce fear of crime and prevent substantial threats to health and safety of individual persons as well as of the community. City planners attempt to apply to the strategies for crime prevention their perception of what the sustainable urban development should be with respect to urban environment. Many planners have studied on the possibility of reduction in fear of crime and actual crimes through environmental improvement. The results of their preliminary studies provide specific suggestions to reduce crimes and fear of crime by application of CPTED. This study proposes alternatives in policy necessary for CPTED, which is one of the strategies for crime prevention, to take its place as a useful strategy for making the urban societies safe and sustainable.
