Bio-aerosols transported by the air have been considered as the major source of dispersal agents that contaminate agricultural products. Unseen fungal spores are known sources of bio-aerosols that harm mushroom and human health during mushroom cultivation. This study was conducted to obtain basic data on the concentration and species distribution of fungi present in the indoor air of oak mushroom cultivation houses in Korea. In 2015 and 2016, we sampled and analyzed indoor airborne fungal spores 21 times from 13 oak mushroom cultivation farms located in six different provinces. The concentration of airborne fungi ranged from $1.30{\times}10^2$ to $1.59{\times}10^4cfu/m^3$. Surprisingly, in 20 sampling cases, the fungal concentration exceeded $500cfu/m^3$, which is recommended as the indoor air quality standard by the Ministry of Environment, Korea. A total of 450 fungi were isolated and identified to belong to 33 genera and 46 species. Among the identified fungi, human pathogens (4 genera and 4 species) and plant pathogens (10 genera and 13 species) were present. In addition, Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma atroviride, and Trichoderma longibrachiatum, which are detrimental species that affect mushroom health, were found 17 out of 21 sampling times. Our results provide evidence that indoor air quality should be improved for better management of mushroom cultivation houses.

Since button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) cultivation is performed in closed environment, the understanding of indoor environment becomes essential for the quality and quantitative production of the greenhouse-grown mushroom. To generate information on indoor environmental factors affecting on fruiting body quality, we investigated temperature, humidity, and bacterial concentration and species in a greenhouse located in Buyeo, Chungnam Province. Temperature and humidity were recorded as $19.75{\pm}0.35^{\circ}C$ and $87{\pm}3.67%$, respectively. The total concentration of bacteria was measured as $3.84{\times}10^3CFU/M^3$. Advenella kashmirensis, Bacillus vietnamensism, B. licheniformis, Burkholderia sordidicola, Fictibacillus phosphorivorans, Lysobacter daejeonensis, Microbacterium esteraromaticum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. protegens, P. gessardii, P. mosseli were identified from indoor air of the greenhouse.

During the monitoring of fungal pests in 2016 and 2017, Acrodontium crateriforme, Naganishia friedmannii, Pestalotiopsis trachicarpicola, Penicillium wollemiicola, and Trichoderma thailandicum were isolated from indoor air, mushroom flies (Phytosciara flavipes), and media materials in the cultivation houses of oak wood mushroom (Lentinula edodes) located in Seocheon, Jangheung, Buyeo, and Yeoju, Korea. These fungal species were identified based on their morphological characteristics after their growth on PDA and subsequent molecular analyses of the 26S rDNA, 28S rDNA, β-tubulin gene, and translation elongation factor 1-α gene using PCR amplification and nucleotide sequencing were performed. The results showed that these fungi were previously undocumented in Korea. This study reports descriptions of their taxonomical and known properties.

Four fungal species, during indoor air monitoring for fungi that possibly affect the field testing of a newly bred shiitake cultivar in cultivation houses located in Cheongyang, Chungnam Province and Jangheung, Jeonnam Province. Of these species, two are known to be plant pathogens and the other two are saprobes but potent contaminators in the mushroom cultivation environment. This study reports the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationships of these four species based on nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and 18S rDNA region, including their known information.
The enormous production of spores by the fruitbodies in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) is develop an allergy with symptoms similar to an "extrinsic allergic alveolitis (EEA)". the sporeless strain would noy only benefit health of mushroom workers but also reduce the risk of viral infections on the mushroom farms. For the development of a sporeless strain of P. ostreatus we used strain ASI 2069. This non-commercial strain is completely nonsporulating. We have recovered both nuclear types of strain ASI 2069 as monokaryons (hereafter referred to as neohaplonts) by protoplasting the mycelium. Crosses between neohaplonts and SSI's(single spore isolates) obtained from a sporulating commercial strain ASI 2180 yielded fruitbodies that isolated 128 strains. 13 excellent strains are selected from 30 bred strains by quality of fruitbodies and spore number. Among 13 excellent strains, G192 strain is chose finally to high yield and sporelessness.
Pseudomonas tolaasii causing brown blotch disease was detected by PCR from water samples collected from the oyster mushroom cultivation farms to find the contamination level of the pathogen in water. Sixteen water samples (28.1%) contain less than 1,000 cfu, 31 samples (54.4%) contain 1,001-10,000 cfu, 6 samples (10.5%) contain 10,001-100,000 cfu, and 4 samples (7%) contain of bacteria per milliliter. P. tolaasii-specific DNA band was amplified in 3 samples (5.3%) by nested-PCR and in 20 samples (35.1%) by immunocapture (IC)-nested PCR respectively. These results suggest that IC-nested-PCR was much more sensitive than nested-PCR in detection of P. tolaasii and a quite few waters using for oyster mushroom cultivation were contaminated with P. tolaasii.
The key for cultivating Lentinula edodes in sawdust bags with an appropriate strain and medium is to encourage the mushroom growth, while discouraging contaminating fungi by controlling environment, especially temperature and relative humidity (RH). To investigate the daily and seasonal fluctuation of temperature and RH in two L. edodes cultivation sheds types, HOBO data loggers was set and the collected data were analyzed. In a Taiwan type L. edodes cultivation shed, temperature and humidity changes were divided into five characteristic periods: mycelium growing winter, mushroom fruiting spring, mushroom fruiting early summer, mushroom nonfruiting summer and mushroom fruiting autumn. First, the mycelium growing winter was December to early March with daily mean temperature of $-1{\sim}8^{\circ}C$. Second, mushroom fruiting spring was mid March to late May with daily mean temperature of $8{\sim}21^{\circ}C$ and day-night temperature difference of $15^{\circ}C$. Third, the Mushroom fruiting early summer was early June to early July with 17 to $25^{\circ}C$. Fourth, nonfruiting summer was mid July to mid August with daily mean temperature of $25{\sim}28^{\circ}C$. Lastly, mushroom fruiting autumn was late August to October with daily mean temperature of $10{\sim}23^{\circ}C$ and with cyclic temperature change by $7^{\circ}C$ decrease and 5 increase every 5 to 7 days. In a Chinese type shed, temperature ranged $-1.9{\sim}5.0^{\circ}C$ during winter and $15{\sim}32^{\circ}C$ during June to October. Temperature and relative humidity changed $12{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and 40~100%, respectively, depending on 0~150 cm shelf heights of by positions in the shed. In conclusion, to grow L. edodes but to discourage contaminating fungi, that is, not to be too high in temperature and RH, the growers changed temperature and RH by adjusting shading, aeration and insulation in the shed.
A new variety of oyster mushroom 'Choengsan' was developed with crossing between monokaryotic strains derived from Suhan and Wonhyoung #3. It was developed by Agriproduct Processing Experiment Station, Gangwon Agricultural Research & Extension Services in 2006. The optimum temperature of mycelial growth was around $27{\sim}28^{\circ}C$ and that of fruiting body was $14{\sim}17^{\circ}C$. The color of pileus was dark-gray color. The period of primordial occurrence was about 20 days in bed cultivation using cotton waste and the yields were $38kg/3.3m^2$.
