  • Cholesterol granuloma is a disease in which cholesterol crystals act as a foreign substance in the surrounding tissues and cause granulomatous reaction and fibrosis within the chamber. It is found in various locations of the body, but the most common location is the temporal bone associated with middle ear disease. Because the disease is associated with breathing disturbance, it may also occur in the paranasal sinus. However, it has been rarely reported since its first report by Graham and Michaels in 1978. Recently, we experienced a case of cholesterol granuloma of the right maxillary sinus of a 63-year-old female patient without any nasal symptoms. We successfully managed this case with Caldwell-Luc operation. Also, we summarized the cases of cholesterol granuloma of the sinonasal region reported in Korea.

  • Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor with intermediate malignity and metastasis risk. It presents epithelioid cells with intracytoplasmic vacuoles and low mitotic activity. Its vascular nature can be confirmed by immunohistochemical studies (vimentin, CD31, CD34, and factor VIII). It is extremely rare in the nasal cavity, with only one case reported on the middle turbinate in Korea. The authors present a case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma on the choana with a size of 2mm, which easily coult have been misdiagnosed as a blood clot.

  • Obesity is a complex multifactorial disease that is associated with various complications, including cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of obesity among young adult males has increased, and this has increased the prevalence of several comorbidities. This trend was closely linked to lifestyle factors, including heavy drinking, smoking cigarettes, and an imbalanced diet. This emphasized the necessity of lifestyle improvements for effective obesity management. In this case, the comprehensive lifestyle changes and adjuvant medication resulted in weight loss and improvement in several comorbid conditions in a young adult male. The case highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach to managing obesity. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle in addressing obesity and its complications.

  • Interest in anxiety has a long history, and this topic has played a significant role in the field of mental health. The concept of anxiety has evolved diversely over time and across cultures, influencing our understanding, diagnosis, and treatment approaches for anxiety disorders. In this paper, we have reviewed and summarized various concepts and theories related to anxiety that have evolved over several centuries. Furthermore, we have examined how the diagnostic criteria in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) have changed within this historical context. A precise understanding of the history of the concept of anxiety and anxiety disorders is believed to have a positive impact on shaping the future path of anxiety disorders in psychiatry.

  • Collagen is the most common structural protein in the connective tissues of vertebrates, playing a crucial role in maintaining the tissue structure and wound healing. Atelocollagen retains the original properties of collagen but does not induce inflammatory cytokines. Atelocollagen is extracted from various animals and humans, with bovine-derived collagen being the most commonly used. The safety and efficacy of atelocollagen have been demonstrated through multiple studies, but further research will be needed in the field of orthopedics regarding its range of use and effects. Foot and ankle diseases have attracted little research attention, highlighting the need for further studies.

  • Adventitial cystic disease of the vein is a rare vascular disease. Herein, we report a case of adventitial cystic disease of the common femoral vein that was initially misdiagnosed as deep venous thrombosis in a 41-year-old male who presented with leg swelling. We focused on the imaging findings and compared them with those of deep venous thrombosis.

  • Lupus panniculitis is a rare disease that may present with similar clinical manifestations to an infection, such as cellulitis or abscess. This paper reports a case of a 25-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus who underwent surgical intervention initially with the suspicion of an abscess but who was eventually diagnosed with lupus panniculitis. Despite the low incidence of lower leg involvement of panniculitis, clinicians should be aware of the possibility of an etiology other than infection when encountering patients with inflammatory diseases. Moreover, a skin biopsy and magnetic resonance imaging with a diffusion-weight image may be helpful.

  • Superficial radial neuropathy is a purely sensory neuropathy, usually caused by nerve entrapment in the distal forearm. We report a case of superficial radial neuropathy caused by the anomalous course of the superficial radial nerve, which was found to be spirally encircling the brachioradialis tendon in the distal forearm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an anatomical variant of the superficial radial nerve that causes neuropathy.

  • This report presents a unique case of Caplan syndrome that mimicked accelerated progressive massive fibrosis. The patient, a former coal miner, had been diagnosed with coal worker's pneumoconiosis 15 years prior and had been treated for rheumatoid arthritis for over 20 years. Accelerated progressive massive fibrosis and the development of multiple nodules with cavitation in the basal lungs were subsequently observed on serial CT scans. Here, the CT manifestations of Caplan syndrome are highlighted in a case in which Caplan syndrome mimicked accelerated progressive massive fibrosis.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in longevity factors for 3 age groups: centenarians, octogenarians, and sexagenarians. There were 389 elderly Korean subjects who participated in this study. This included 109 centenarians who participated in the 1-wave study that examined the longevity factors using the health behaviors and psychological reactions. The study that examined the longevity factors by using odds ratio of the logistic regression analysis. The major findings indicate that female centenarians and octogenarians scored the highest in abstinence from alcoholic drinking than males from these same 2 age groups (OR=9.04, CI=4.04, 20.24). Centenarians scored higher in non-visiting hospitals (OR=11.48, CI=5.56, 23.70) and showed little emotion when watching sad scenes, upon comparison with the younger 2 age groups. Also, centenarians scored higher in laughter (OR=11.59, CI=5.04, 26.63), showing no anxiety (OR=12.49, CI=6.42, 24.32), and displaying indifference towards games, when compared with the younger 2 age groups. The findings imply that Korean centenarian leads to a life of longevity is the result not only of psychological reactions but also of health behaviors. Also, these results support future studies of improvement of longevity factors.
