  • This study examined the effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness (AEE) on psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Furthermore, we examined the moderating effect of collectivism on the relationships between AEE, psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Many Korean psychologists have suggested a moderating effect of collectivism on the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and psychological adjustment, but there are few studies that have examined these relationships. Consequently, it is necessary to investigate these effects. Data concerning AEE, individualism, collectivism, psychological maladjustment (BSI), and subjective well-being were collected from 138 adults in South Korea. To test the moderation effects, multiple regression analyses was conducted. Results found AEE increased psychological maladjustment and decreased subjective well-being. However, the moderating effect of collectivism was not found in the relationship between AEE and psychological maladjustment, as well as AEE and subjective well-being. The difference of emotion suppression and AEE regarding cultural orientation and clinical implication of these findings were discussed.

  • In this study, the Korea Youth Policy Institute applied a self-registering model to verify the patterns of parental stress, multicultural youth psychological maladjustment, and interdependence between three factors by using five-point-time data tracked from middle school to high school. According to the analysis, First, Parent' stress at the time of the five surveys had a significant positive effect on the psychological maladjustment and the risk of academic interruption of multicultural adolescents at that point. Second, the psychological maladaptation of multicultural adolescents at the time of the previous five surveys had a significant positive effect on the risk of academic interruption at that point. Based on these analysis results, various support measures were proposed to cope with the stress of multicultural youth parents, and policy alternatives were proposed to prevent the risk of academic interruption by reducing the psychological maladjustment of multicultural youth.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce eight articles which were written on the psychological mechanisms of accidents in Korean society and to suggest alternatives to prevent them. All of these articles were presented during the "Symposium of Safety" at the Annual Conference of the Korean Psychological Association, at Youngnam University through October 18~19, 2002. Frequently occurring accidents in Korean society are a very serious and enduring social issue. Psychological and cultural factors, as well as environmental factors, were found to be leading causes of the various accidents. The preventative alternatives for these accidents should be developed taking into account these factors. A nation-wide comprehensive institute for accident management is necessary to control accidents and to study and to develop preventive programs. The attitude of psychologists also needs to shift from the laboratory to the field toward accidents and from passive to aggressive toward issues facing Korean society.

Second, the flexible cultures of adhocracy-clan, the innovation culture was found to have a significant effect on the positive psychological capital. Third, the positive psychological capital was found to have a significant effect on the change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior. Fourth, the positive psychological capital was found to play a mediating role in the relation between the recognition of flexible cultures of adhocracy-clan and the change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior. Therefore, it can be said to find out the fact that the change-oriented organizational citizen behavior can appear under the fierce competition as nowadays only when the organization should establish the organization culture of innovation-relation or the members are in the positive psychological state. We expect that the future study on the type of subculture and new organizational citizen behavior will be made in the manner of classifying the unit of organizational culture into a headquarter or team for measurement.
