Shin Heum and his family members wrote many Cifu works, which were mainly in the form of Gufu(古賦). And many of them revealed personal emotions, such as melancholy. Especially they formed Guiqulai consciousness by taking personal suffering as their nourishments, and it was expressed in Cifu. The feature of Shin Heum Family's Cifu works is that the shape of Guiqulai consciousness is remarkable. There was a political ordeals on the base of such a consciousness. • On the basis of Sternberg's theory of mental self-government, this examined the difference in thinking style between gifted science students and non-gifted students, and their earth science concepts by the different types of thinking styles. The subjects were consisted of 120 students from the Busan Science Academy and 122 students from two general high schools in Busan, Korea. All participants responded to the Thinking Styles Inventory which is a self-report test consisting of 65 items, and essay questions for examining the students' earth science concepts. The results are as follows. First, the gifted science students prefer legislative, judical, anarchic, global, and liberal styles, where non-gifted students prefer executive, oligarchic, and conservative styles. Second, Type I thinking style group prove to have more complex concepts in relation to the geological and astronomical areas than those of the Type II thinking style group in both of the gifted and non-gifted students. This indicates that Type I thinking style students use a deep learning approach where Type II thinking style students use a surface learning approach.

  • The distinctive character of a self-written epitaph is that it assumes one's own death. While containing the elements of an epitaph, it is distinctive in that it reveals motive of writing and scolds rather than praises one's own self. The motive for writing a self-written epitaph is two-fold. First, it seeks to tell the truth about one's own self. Second, it is a response to external shocks. The Educational Value of Self-written epitaph lies in leading the elderly to reflect on their lives today, and it bears the appearance of cooperative writing.

  • The present study intends to understand how multimodality can be implemented in a content course curriculum and how students perceive multimodal tasks. Twenty-eight students majoring in English were engaged in a digital storytelling assignment as a part of the content curriculum. Findings from the questionnaire and reflective essays that investigated students perceptions of digital storytelling showed that students felt that the assignment helped them engage in the task and felt motivated. In comparison to traditional writing tasks, students perceived digital storytelling to be more engaging and motivating, but felt that the assignment required more mental effort and caused more anxiety. By supporting students to explore technology and implement multimodal aspects in the learning process, digital storytelling can encourage engagement and autonomous learning to create meaningful works that are purposeful and enjoyable.

  • For a long time, it has been claimed that there is no tradition of tragedy in Asian Literature. This is because researchers have regarded Ancient Greek tragedy, which is an imitation of an action and has dramatic structure, as the only parameter of tragedy. The purpose of this paper is to examine the features of Korean tragedy in order to revise the parameters of tragedy. In chapter 2, by examining the generic features of 'drama' and 'lyric poetry', we obtained following hypothesis consisting of two elements: First, we can classify as lyric poetry that which has the dramatic device of the separation between the suffering character and the observer as a tragedy. Second, since in lyric poetry the character observed by the poetic self is eventually the alter ego of the poetic self, the observer in lyric poetry can only have pity towards the character. In Chapter 3, we examine lyric songs created from the third to fourth century B.C. to more modern lyric poetry to analyze the features of Korean lyric tragedy. They all depict a state of deadlock where the poetic self cannot move forward, and they are all structured in a similar way. In this common structure, the poetic self plays two roles: a character who is deadlocked and an observer who feels pity toward the character. By examining these features of Korean lyric tragedy, we suggest a new parameter of tragedy. Korean lyric tragedy can also provide a new perspective on modern tragedy that conflicts with traditional theories of tragedy.

  • This thesis explores how JobGeuk ShimChungWangWhoJeon and the Devoted daughter ShimChungJeon scenario have transformed ShimChungJeon, a notable work of Pansori literature, dramatically for modern times. By analyzing the adapter's consciousness and changing direction in these two works, it was found that ShimChungJeon was tailored to audiences in the 1900s. JobGeuk and the scenario are attempts to transform ShimChungJeon to meet cultural needs in the 21st century and to make the works appealing to the public. The aspects of the transformation of JobGeuk ShimChungWangWhoJeon are 1) reinforcement of logical causality, 2) weakening the humor and simultaneously emphasizing the work's surreal nature, and 3) dramatic expression by song. The aspects of the change in direction of the Devoted daughter ShimChungJeon scenario are 1)the insertion of a new narrative, 2)trying to evoke both humor and tragic sadness, 3)seeking newness with the reassignment of time and events. JobGeuk ShimChungWangWhoJeon is the first example of the transformation of ShimChungJeon's dramatic style and Devoted daughter ShimChungJeon is the first transformation of its scenario. These two works show how ShimChungJeon can be adapted to modern times and new cultures, and how ShimChungJeon can be made relevant and be enjoyed by the public regardless of the era.

  • This study focuses on Korean-American writer Hong-Eun$(1880{\sim}1951)'s$ American travel gasaes and sis who played an active role under the rule of Japanese imperialism. This study also investigates Hong-Eun's experience and expression on American travel and culture and discusses his changes in stream of consciousness. According to American travel sigaes which were published in the New Koren Times in 1936. 1937, and 1949, his consciousness can be summarized as follows. First travel siga depicts his inner conflict as a refugee who lost one's home country. That is to say. by observing Indians' losing identity and their miserable labor conditions, he developed his own critical eyes on American society. Eventually he missed his country desperately and sought for the ways of his returning there. Second travel sijo reveals his own agony about not be able to return his home country where he could Possibly visit. In other words, after suffering from his agony, it is evident that he started to take positive attitude towards American society and establish his own identity. Based upon Hong-Eun's changes in consciousness as a writer, the researcher hypothesizes that there exists Diaspora-Consciousness in his work. His consciousness is strongly related with his attitude towards his home country whether it Is positive or vice versa. When his home country declared her independence. his attitude towards immigrant society was positively changed, which was quite contradictory from his previous one. In this transition period, not only he accepted American ideology and life, but he re-conceptualized them as a Korean mode. In sum, Hong-Eun's mental traces lie on the core of hybrid and diaspora which Post-Colonial literature values highly of.
