The Analysis of Trade Competitiveness for Korea-ASEAN Members in Northeast Asia's Trade Environment (동북아 무역환경에서 한국과 아세안 10개 회원국들과의 무역경쟁력 분석)

  • This study analyzes trade competitiveness by classifying the classification by item among Korea and the 10 ASEAN member countries into high level and medium-high level technology industry groups, medium level, medium-low level, and low-level technology industry groups. Before analyzing each of the 10 member states, I investigate the trade competitiveness between Korea and ASEAN, and analyze the trade competitiveness of Korea, especially among the 10 member countries, with Korea having a competitive industrial force. The study results revealed that trade with Vietnam was actively promoted, with Korea-Vietnam trade volume also growing far above that of other member states. And trade with Korea was brisk in the order of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The analysis of the trade structure of the 10 ASEAN member states, confirmed that imports were also being made while exporting items in the high- and medium-level technology industry groups. The possibility of entering the Korean market was quite high, given that Korea imported high- and medium- and high-tech industrial forces while exporting low-tech industrial forces.

  • This study attempted to analyze the trade in goods effect of the Korea-ASEAN FTA by using logistics performance index, which are evaluation indicators of logistics industry workers on the logistics environment and logistics system in international trade. The World Bank's logistics performance index are six indicators: customs clearance, logistics infra, ease of shipment, logistics services, goods tracking abilities, and on-time transportation. The purpose of this study was to examine how it affects commodity trade between Korea and ASEAN states using the gravity model using panel data. Through this, it was confirmed that logistics performance index affect the increase in commodity trade.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest a plan on promoting use of multimodal transport logistics terms in Incoterms, 2010. This study deals with the terms of three promotion factors which are a user's subjective factors, a trade transport logistics environment factors, and a term content factors. According to analysis results of the factors, a user's subjective factors(3.87 score) are scored the most ones of promotion factors of using multimodal transport logistics terms in Incoterms, 2010, to be compared with a trade transport logistics environment factors(3.60 score). with a term content factors(3.74 score). Therefore, first of all, it is important to promoting use of multimodal transport logistics terms in Incoterms, 2010 through as follows, a user's subjective factors : (1) to understand correlation of door to door multimodal transport and terms of Incoterms, 2010, (2) to promote use of multimodal transport logistics terms in Incoterms, 2010 in door to door multimodal transport, (3) to restrain customary use of FOB, CFR, CIF terms. And, the next, we have to promote use of multimodal transport logistics terms in Incoterms, 2010 through considering a trade transport logistics environment factors and a term content factors.

A Study on Applicability of the Bonded Area as a Countermeasure of the Change of Chinese Processing Trade System (중국 가공무역제도 변화에 따른 중국 보세구역의 활용방안에 대한 연구)

  • Since China reformed and opened up itself, processing trade system has enormously contributed to chinese economic development and also become driving force of chinese economic growth. However, due to imbalance of industrial distribution, overproduction of labor-intensive product has expanded, and as a result, mass export of low-value-added products has aggravated trade friction. Also, these low-value-added products has caused environmental pollution and brought resource waste. On this, Chinese government start to modify system according to strategy for enhancement of processing trade. In this study, as a countermeasure of the Change of Chinese processing trade system, applicability of the bonded area is suggested. Firstly, even if a company's item is applied to prohibited or restricted items, the company can trade if through the bonded area. Secondly, even if a company has duty of deposit reservation, the company can be exempt from duty of deposit reservation if through the bonded area. Thirdly, as to importing facilities for processing trade, a company can receive more benefit through the bonded area than through outside of the bonded area.

Empirical Analysis on Trade Pattern of Korean Motor Industry and Effect of Free Trade Agreement through Panel Gravity Model (패널중력모형을 통한 한국 자동차산업의 교역패턴과 자유무역협정의 영향 분석)

  • This study was done through Panel Gravity Model to analyze the trade pattern of Korean motor industry and empirical analysis was also performed on the effect of regional economies joining to the Korean trade is to draw out some implications. Compared with per capita pattern regarding the income levels of both the countries, the results indicated that trade of Korean motor industry followed GDP pattern in accordance with the overall market. The results of effect on regional economic integration to Korean motor industry reflected 179% and 198% increase in motor trade industry and motor parts trade, respectively. To expand the trade of Korean motor industry at the international competitiveness level, focus should be made on smaller, smarter and greener car with lesser impact on the environment. Hence, the present investigation suggested that government should not delay in retaining the core technology as well as private sector should also aggressively invest in the market.

The Impact of Globalization and Factor Abundancy on Income Inequality (세계화와 요소부존도가 소득불평등에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • This study analyzes the relationship between globalization and income inequality. The empirical model is developed based on Kuznets' hypothesis of the inverse U curve. The effects of factor abundancy and globalization which is characterized by trade and FDI on income inequality are analyzed. 127 member countries of WTO are classified into 4 groups according to GNI. The period of analysis is 21 years from 1995 to 2015. Results show that 3 groups of countries excluding one group that is high income countries supports Kuznets' hypothesis which is the inverse U curve. Secondly, expansion of trade decreases income inequality of middle income countries but increases high and low income countries. Thirdly, FDI increases income inequality of middle and low income countries. Finally, the increase in capital abundancy lowers income inequality because the capital accumulation increases the productivity of labor.

  • In December 2015, the Paris Agreement was adopted to cope with global warming caused by greenhouse gas emission and to prevent the average temperature of the Earth from rising. Renewable energy sources have become important to address environmental problems such as rising sea levels, depletion of forests and fine dust. In order to grow renewable energy, government support is needed. However, excessive government support for the renewable energy industry could pose problems that include undermining fair competition and raising costs. The WTO already has heard cases involving renewable energy subsidies. This article focuses on subsidies and countervailing tariffs as well as examines WTO disputes related to renewable subsidies, and also analyze legal issues that are problematic in granting subsidies for the development of new renewable energy industries. In WTO dispute involving renewable energy subsidies, legal issues are SCM Agreement article 2 Specificity, article 3 (b) import substitution subsidy and GATT article 20. This paper proposes improvement measures such as the reintroduction of article 8 Non-Actionable Subsidies or special provisions on energy subsidy. In addition, it is necessary to clarify the interpretation of Article 3 of the subsidy agreement. However, excessive government subsidies can lead to trade friction, so the WTO rules should be improved in line with the WTO goals of environmental protection, equity in free trade, and sustainable development.

The Spatial Growth Pattern of Korean Small-Medium Size Port and its Implications (우리나라 중소 무역항의 성장 패턴과 유형별 시사점)

  • Due to the high importance of foreign trade in the national economy, Korea has a lot of ports designated as trade ports compared to the small land size. However, because of the poor utilization results, some small trade ports have been criticized for wasteful financing due to redundant investment in SOC. This is because the characteristics and comparative advantage of foreign trade in trade ports have not been analyzed in detail by region. Therefore, this study analyzes the patterns and types of change in the size of trade, number of cargo items handled, and the number of trade target countries in the past 20 years for 19 domestic small trade ports using the time-series cluster analysis technique. As a result of analysis, Korean small trade ports were classified into five growth pattern types according to the analysis index, and characteristics and implications for each type could be derived. Today, as the foreign trade environment changes drastically and the importance of balanced regional development is emphasized, it is very important to study the growth types and implications of small trade ports and the results of this study are expected to provide meaningful implications for regional port development and operation in the future.

A Comparative Study on the International Competitiveness of Korea-China Cultural Products Trade (한중 문화상품무역 국제경쟁력 비교 연구)

  • At present, with the diversified development of the global economy, the trade of cultural products has become an important factor affecting the competition of comprehensive strength among countries. As a neighboring country to China, South Korea has a similar cultural development environment to China. As an important pillar of South Korea's economy, cultural product trade, its development experience has reference significance for China. This paper adopts literature research method, comparative analysis method and empirical analysis method to conduct research. The article firstly analyzes the export level of China and South Korea from the scale of the import and export of cultural products, and finds the difference between the import and export of cultural products between the two countries. Then, it compares and analyzes the insufficiency of China's cultural product trade structure and the advantage of Korea's cultural product trade structure. Finally, this paper uses the stochastic frontier gravity model to conduct empirical analysis and draws relevant conclusions about the trade potential of cultural products between China and South Korea. The research results show that: (1) the international competitiveness of cultural products trade in China and South Korea is relatively high, but the competitiveness of China's cultural products has been improved slowly; (2) compared with South Korea, China's cultural product exports are affected by trade inefficiency factors larger. (3) The improvement of government efficiency has a great effect on reducing the inefficiency of trade in China.

A Study on the effect of SCM Integration and Green SCM practices to Environmental Performance (공급체인 통합과 친환경 활동이 환경성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This paper examined the supply chain management Integration factors and environmental performance in Korean industry. Focusing on SCM Integration, GreenSCM practice, and environmental performance factors, purpose of this study is finding linkage between SCM Integration factors with new environmental practice factors and environmental performance. Based on the analysis of eighty-eight cases, the following results were found. First, We found External environmental collaboration factors and Internal environmental monitoring factors within Green Supply Chain Practices. Second, SCM Integration have a positively significant influence on environmental performance. Third, Internal environmental monitoring factors have a positively significant influence on Environmental performance but External environmental collaboration factors doesn't. This study suggests that only with high level of Integration firms may have good result on entire supply chain environmental performance. Finally, our empirical evidence shows that company should be prepared for new environmental trade regulation with Green Supply chain management integration.
