  • It is very important to predict the nonlinear behavior of combustion instability such as transition phenomena and limit cycle amplitude for fully understanding and controlling the instabilities. These nonlinear instability characteristics are highly dependent upon the flames' nonlinear dynamics in a gas turbine premixed combustor. In this study, nonlinear instability TA(Thermo-acoustic) models were introduced by applying the concept of flame describing function to the thermoacoustic analysis method. As a result of model development, for a given combustor length, the growth rate of instability was greatly affected by the change in amplitude, although the instability frequency was not. Further researches under various operating conditions and model validation on limit cycle amplitude are required.

  • The burning rate estimation method of solid propellants, based on closed bomb tests, has been introduced. The composition of the combustion gas is determined by using CEA and the Noble-Abel equation of state for high pressure operation conditions. Covolume taking into account the collision among molecules due to the actual volume of the molecule is modeled by LJ potential. A cubic form function is applied to calculate the volume change of propellant grains during combustion. The estimated burning rates of five different grain configuation at high pressure are fairly compared with BRLCB results within the maximum error of 6%.

  • In general, based on traffic data in a ideal traffic condition, BPR cost function is used to a variety of transportation policies. However, Some researchers have reported that BRP cost function is not appropriate for analyzing traffic pattern as well as forecasting future demand.(Spiess, 1989 ; Singh, 1999) Therefore, in this paper to solve this problem, a methodology based on data through Micro traffic Simulator Based(MSB) is developed. As a result following outputs are obtained ; (1) presenting a methodology to develop a travel cost function through VISSIM in order to assess transportation policies and (2) developing BRP cost function and MSB cost function from data analysis through VISSIM and verifying availability of MSB function by comparative analysis.

  • This paper deals with the self-excited oscillation of a system that is controlled by a dynamic nonlinear fuzzy controller. The self-excited oscillation can be observed in the systems composed of nonlinear elements and its analysis is as important as that of stability in the design of nonlinear systems. by using the frequency transfer function analysis known as the describing function method in nonlinear control theory, the oscillation is theoretically predicted. First, the describing function of a dynamic fuzzy controller is derived and then, based on the derived describing fuction, self-excited oscillation of the system controlled by a dynamic fuzzy controller is predicted. To obtain the describing function of the dynamic fuzzy controller, a simple structure is assumed for the fuzzy controller.

  • In this paper, we acquired EBT section images of lung parenchyma using fabricated spirometric gating device and proposed new energy function based on dynamic contour model in order to extracted the contour of the lung parenchyma in EBT images. In EBT images, gray level of the lungs is lower than other region. we extracted the lungs contour using the new energy function considering gray level and contour vector of the lung parenchyma region from EBT images. As we compared the proposed method with the conventional method, we confirmed that detection method using proposed energy function was valid.

  • This paper provides a novel extended Moving Least Squares(MLS) difference method for the potential problem with weak and strong discontinuities. The conventional MLS difference method is enhanced with jump functions such as step function, wedge function and scissors function to model discontinuities in the solution and the derivative fields. When discretizing the governing equations, additional unknowns are not yielded because the jump functions are decided from the known interface condition. The Poisson type PDE's are discretized by the difference equations constructed on nodes. The system of equations built up by assembling the difference equations are directly solved, which is very efficient. Numerical examples show the excellence of the proposed numerical method. The method is expected to be applied to various discontinuity related problems such as crack problem, moving boundary problem and interaction problems.

  • The phase distribution in concrete materials strongly affects its material properties. It is important to identify the spatial distribution of void in concrete because the void in concrete materials affects mechanical behavior and permeability significantly. Therefore, a proper method to describe the void distribution of a material is needed. In this research, CT(computed tomography) is used to examine and to quantify the void distribution of porous concrete specimens. 3D concrete digital specimens are created by subsequent stacking of 2D cross-sectional images from CT. Then, probability distribution functions such as two-point correlation, lineal-path and two-point cluster functions are used for void distribution characterization. It is confirmed that probability distribution functions obtained from CT images are effective in characterizing void distributions including the anisotropy and percolation.
