Hybridity Images of Miyazaki-hayao Animation (미야자키 하야오의 애니메이션에 나타난 혼종적 이미지(Hybridity Image))

  • Animations consist of the created artificial images. To interpret of the meaning from analyzing the style of main images is an important element in understanding of animations. Therefore, to analyze images expressed in works of Miyazaki-hayao, this study substitutes the concept of 'hybridity' for images of characters, backgrounds, and mechanics created by him and explores how they are expressed, how they produce symbolic meanings and functions. It is confirmed that main images in selected works as a scope of research have hybridity of images between 'past, present, and future', 'eastern elements and western elements', 'real and virtual', 'human beings and animal' in narrative. From these results, it is concluded that because of hybridity between images, he can present fresh pleasures to spectators, simultaneously communicate thoughtful messages above mere enjoyment, which is a differentiable point with works of other directors.

Characteristics of can be summarized as mechanical design, realistic military mise-en-scene, and philosophical view of the world based on the bible. All works reflect the philosophy and ideology of the writer/creator, but reflects various form of ideology. Furthermore, 's ambiguous and vague plot made the fans to discuss and analyze about the work, which brought secondary marketing effect. In this report, the ideology reflected in will be analyzed and understand how these ideologies were reflected in the work. By analyzing religious, psychological and philosophy ideologies in , ideology can be proved as success factor of animation films.

An Analysis of Game Storytelling Structure Focused on the Characters in RPG (캐릭터 중심의 RPG 스토리텔링 구조 분석)

  • The interaction property of digital media have changed traditional storytelling into a new concept, digital-storytelling, which has been widely accepted. Nowadays open-ended game storytelling, which different from story design of movie or animation, is chosen for the development of RPG. It can make infinite stories according to player character's decision. In this paper, we propose a game storytelling structure focused on the characters for RPG, and analyze how characters designed with various story-values interact with background stories and events in the cyber game world through case studies. This research is necessary to design predictable game mechanics and provide methods to control game play in case of special-purpose game.

  • The purpose of this paper is to identify the significance of heterogeneity in multi-player VR games. Heterogeneity is a concept of multi-player mode that a game uses the immersive VR and non-immersive system at the same time. As immersive VR device has become more commercial, multi-player VR games try to use heterogeneity strategically. is the best example to explain a new phenomenon, so this paper analyses by using a revised and reinforced MDA framework. As a result, we can find heterogeneity concept not only in the separation of player's interface, but also in the division of play patterns and experiences within a game itself.

  • The feature of digital media's interactivity made the traditional storytelling to be evolved into a new concept of digital storytelling. Unlike films or animations, games' storytelling takes open-ended design method; thus, it is possible to create unlimited number of stones within a game depending upon the decisions of player characters. In this paper, a character-centered game storytelling system of a highly story-based RPG genre will be reviewed, and, it analyzes case studies of how a character with various story values can interact with its background story, virtual game world, and many events in its game storytelling system. Game storytelling structure and game mechanics are related to each other very closely. Therefore, it is possible to control the player's overall movement as the character's story develops according to a predictable structure or situation.

Narrative Structure and Ludonarrative Dissonance in the Video Game, "Red Dead Redemption 2" (<레드 데드 리뎀션 2>의 서사 형식과 서사 부조화)

  • Video games have become a powerful tool to tell a complex story realistically thanks to modern technology. Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018), is a video game title that touts cinematic qualities such as superb acting by the voice actors and jaw-dropping cinematography as well as a rich narrative following the protagonist, Arthur Morgan's quest for redemption. Using Aristotle's Poetics and Robert Mckee's Aristotelian theory on storytelling, this study highlights Arthur's gradual change from a ruthless gunman to an altruistic hero, from which it derives the theme of redemption, and his super-objective to protect those he cares about. Then, it also explains a variety of possibilities in the narrative of the game determined by the opened-ended game mechanics, particularly the "honor" system, which reflects Arthur's moral choices on the narrative presentation with different sets of dialogue and endings. However, the study ultimately argues Red Dead Redemption 2 to be incohesive in its storytelling due to "ludonarrative dissonance," a concept coined by Clint Hocking, which indicates a conflict between the narrative and game mechanics of a video game. It's mainly because the game's various narrative choices bring changes to neither the theme nor Arthur's super-objective. Furthermore, the double-standard of evaluation in the "honor" system, and its numeric ranking system of honor also lend themselves to ludonarrative dissonance even further. After all, the study ultimately claims ludonarrative dissonance in Red Dead Redemption essentially disrupts the game's narrative unity, which is Aristotle's one of most emphasized upon traits of any story and signifies the game's instability as a storytelling medium.

Gas Permeation Properties of the Ceramics-Silicone Composite Membranes (세라믹-실리콘 복합막의 기체투과 특성)

  • Ceramic membranes are prepared by using molding method of the glass materials, ceramic-silicone composite membranes are synthesized with immersing silicone compound of sodiumate, $S_3$-Al, S3and we investigated the properties of gas permeation. Ceramic membranes and ceramic-sodiumate membranes that has been prepared were identified as porous structure and ceramic-$S_3$-Al membranes and ceramic-$S_3$ membranes were showed with dense structure by immersion of silicone compounds. Gas permeation properties through the ceramic membranes and ceramic-sodiumate membranes decreased with increasing temperature and linearly increased with increasing pressure, ceramic-$S_3$-Al membranes and ceramic-$S_3$ membranes increased with increasing temperature and pressure effect was low. Permeation rate was found out high value with ceramic membranes and in order of ceramic-sodiumate membranes, ceramic-$S_3$-Al membranes and ceramic-$S_3$ membranes, but selectivity reversed in the order. Gas permeation mechanism through the ceramic membranes and ceramics-sodiumate composite membrane decreased with increasing temperature, suggesting an Knudsen diffusion mechanism, but ceramic-$S_3$-Al composite membranes and ceramic-$S_3$ composite membranes showed an activated diffusion by which gas permeation rates through the membranes increased with an increase in temperature.

Girls' Technoscience Story: Reflexivity on Technoscience in Girls' Comics (소녀들의 감성으로 본 과학: 소녀만화에 나타난 과학에 대한 성찰성)

  • This paper aims to examine women's understanding of technoscience by analyzing girls' comics(少女漫畵, Sonyeo Manhwa). The idea that women were not interested in science was a socially accepted. But this paper reveals that women are interested in science in a different way by analyzing Korean SF girls' comics. By examining an image of science in SF girls' comics in comparison to SF boys' comics(少年漫畵, Sonyeon Manhwa), this paper shows that women look technoscience through 'reflexivity' focused on 'human' and that this special character is derived from the feature of women's culture. SF girls comics have two features. First, girls comics reflect on power made by technoscience rather than describe it elaborately. And the reflexivity is expressed through a mental state, an emotion, and relations between human beings focused on a human nature, an ego, and an identity. It is different from boys comics that give weight to the mechanics and that show simple plot such as utopia or distopia, or a battle of good versus evil. Second, girls comics express technoscience as daily practices. In girls comics, some technosciences are linked to our daily lives and cartoonists and readers consider an 'essence of knowledge' together. It is different from men's view that regards knowledge as power or means.
