  • 디지털 방송 기술의 비약적인 발전은 그 수요와 공급을 늘려가며 디지털 컨버전스 시대의 매력적인 산업으로 디지털 방송을 급부상시키고 있다. 이러한 발전 추세를 반영하듯 국내 아날로그 방송 서비스는 2012년을 기점으로 종료해야 하는 운명을 맞아 그 가속화는 더욱 빨라질 것으로 예상된다. 한편, 디지털 방송의 한 분야인 지상파 이동 멀티미디어 방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, DMB) 역시 시류에 발맞추어 디지털 방송과 모바일 환경의 결합이라는 추가적인 이점을 안고, 몇 가지 서비스를 선보이고 있다. 하지만 이와 같은 이점에도 불구하고, DMB 서비스는 교육 혹은 광고 분야 등의 뚜렷한 수요의 증가를 가져오는 콘텐츠에 대한 제작과 배포가 쉽지 않고, 그 방법과 기준이 혼재하는 어려움으로 인하여 DMB가 지닌 무한한 가능성에 비해 크게 이슈화가 되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 점에 착안하여, 지난 연구들에서 얻은 경험을 밑거름 삼아 기본적인 콘텐츠의 제작 및 배포는 물론 DMB 서비스에서 특화될 수 있는 콘텐츠를 더욱 쉴게 생성할 수 있으며, 기술적으로는 3차원 객체를 지원하는 부분을 보강하며, 편리한 인터페이스 등을 포함하는 저작 도구를 개발한다. 이를 위해 기존 연구들에서 다루어온 MPEG-4 Part 11 : BIFS(Binary Format for Scenes)를 기반으로 국내외에서 연구된 기존의 저작도구들을 비교하며, 새로운 아이디어들을 접목시켜 향후 DMB 서비스에서 효율적으로 쓰여 질 수 있는 저작도구를 개발한다.

A Study on the Development of Web-based Full Motion Video E-mail System using MPEG-4 (웹을 기반으로 한 MPEG-4 동영상 E-mail 시스템의 개발)

  • Now is the time for web-based video e-mail system because of world wide use of internet. But video data is so large, then data compression is much needed for transmission by web. In this paper, my colleagues and I implement full motion video e-mail system using MPEG-4, the international standards for audio-visual data. This video e-mail system is made of web-based active-X control, so easily accessible by web, and applies real-time audio-video compression. It's possible for everyone to send video e-mail for free to everywhere in the world if this system is used. The main application areas of this system are multimedia mailing service, web-based video advertisement, remote education, remote medical service and shopping mall construction, etc.

Verification of Temporal Relations on SMIL 2.0 Document using an Extended Temporal Interval Model (확장된 시간 구간 모델을 이용한 SMIL2.0 문서의 시간관계 검증)

  • This paper suggests a method for verification of temporal relations on SMIL 2.0 document using an extended temporal interval model. The SMIL 2.0 document has more asynchronous temporal relations and supports more interactive relations between objects than traditional SMIL document. But it is higher to produce temporal inconsistency by various interactive relations between objects. So the suggested verification method expresses SMIL 2.0 document as functional relations based on an extended temporal interval model and verifies SMIL 2.0 document using interactive relations and temporal intervals between objects. Applications to the verification method are as follows; multiuser interactive contents, online-learning, etc.

  • In the next generation mobile multimedia communications, the broad band shot-burst transmissions are used to reduce end-to-end transmission delay, and to limit the time variation of wireless channels over a burst. However, training overhead is very significant for such short burst formats. So, the availability of the short training sequence and the fast converging adaptive algorithm is essential in the system adopting the symbol-by-symbol adaptive equalizer. In this paper, we propose an adaptive equalizer using the DWMT (discrete multi-wavelet transform) and LMS (least mean square) adaptation. The proposed equalizer has a faster convergence rate than that of the existing transform-domain equalizers, while the increase of computational complexity is very small.

  • This paper explores how to teach Chinese, using multi-media resources such as Chinese dramas and focusing on one of Jin Yong's dramas, The Return of the Condor Heroes. The purpose of this study is to develop teaching methodologies for university students learning Chinese through drama to integrate language skills: enhancing communicative competence and understanding Chinese cultures. First, the overview of previous studies provides several cases of foreign language education using drama. Teaching Chinese through drama can be an integrative education because students can develop their communicative competence as well as understand the cultures of the target language. In other words, the contexts of drama may offer rich sources of the history of China, Han Chinese ethnocentrism, and knowledge of Chinese literature as well as geography. Second, this study applies the principles of Tomlinson (2010) for materials development in language teaching into the case of Chinese drama. It concentrates on Jin Yong's The Return of the Condor Heroes that the author has used in the Chinese language courses for three years. It examines the characteristics of the drama for developing effective ways of teaching and learning Chinese language and culture. Furthermore, it discusses the impact of using drama on changes in students' pervasive perceptions about unnecessity of Chinese classical literature. Third, this paper presents some sample lessons which may help teachers to develop understanding of how to organize lessons through drama. Finally, it illustrates university students' opinions about using drama to learn Chinese.

  • Owing to the development of computer technologies, to process data derived from various sensors is recently demanding. It is also increasing to demand the moving object based servies like the services of location based and mobile application services. That's why it is needed the processing of visualizing the services for education aspects.   • CAD system is a very important technology in designing the products which we are using today. This CAD technology has been enlarging its area into 3D CAD systems with the development of computer graphics technologies. In particular, such advances have been realized in special area such as the CAD system for designing shoes. However, because it is difficult to design a 3D CAD system, most CAD developments except for major CAD software companies usually have employed the AutoCAD which realizes 3D concepts. Also, many shoes' designers have been skilled with 2D shoe CAD systems and then they can make high achievements. Therefore, we design a new shoe CAD system with advantages of 2D CAD system and 3D CAD system. We also implement the scheme to transfer the data between 2D CAD system and 3D CAD system and also grading technologies to get patterns of various shoes size from a basic shoe's design.

  • In ubiquitous environment, the analysis for student's learning behaviour is essential to provide students with personalized education. SCORM(Sharable Contents Object Reference Model), IMS LD (Instructional Management System Learning Design) standards provide the support function of learning design such as checking the progress. However, in case of applying these standards contain many problem to add or modify the contents. In this paper, We implement the system that manages the learner behaviour by hooking the event of web browser. Through all of this, HTML-based content can be recycled without any additional works and the problems by applying the standard can be improved because the store and analysis of the learning result is possible. It also supports the ubiquitous learning environment because of keeping track of the learning result in case of network disconnected.

Tree-Based Conversational Interface Supporting Efficient Presentation of Turn Relations (응답 관계의 효율적인 프레젠테이션을 지원하는 트리 기반 대화 인터페이스)

  • This paper describes a tree-based conversational interface supporting efficient presentation of turn relations on online conversation. Most of conventional conversational interfaces are difficult to make use of formal conversation such as group meeting, decision-making, etc. due to very simplicity of a con versational interface and restriction of data structure of conversational messages. And a tree-based conversational interface supports formal conversation, but they are difficult to present turn relations because of jumpy display by locations of replied turns and distance between replied turns, etc. So this paper suggests a tree-based conversational interface to present efficiently turn relations using XML-based messages with merits of a text-based interface. The suggested conversational interface was implemented by using XML-, DOM, and JDK. And this paper showed that the conversational interface could be applied to conversation system using client- server architecture. Applications for the conversational interface are as follows: collaboration, distance teaming, online game, etc.

  • With recent development of virtual reality technology, coupled with the growth of the marine industry, virtual underwater simulation systems are under development in various studies, for educational purposes and to simulate virtual reality experiences. Current literature indicates many underwater simulation systems to date have focused on the quality of visual stimulus delivered through three-dimensional graphics user interface, limiting the reality of the experience. In order to improve the quality of the reality delivered by such virtual simulations, it is crucial to develop multi-sensory technology rather than focus on the conventional audio-visual interaction, which limits experiencer from the sense of underwater immersion and existence within the simulation. This work proposes the immersive multi-sensory effector system, delivering the users with a more realistic underwater experience. The sense of reality perceived was evaluated, as the main factor of the virtual reality system.
