  • Radar receiving echo signal provides target information - range, velocity and position by signal magnitude and Doppler shift, which are determined by target reflection characteristics and target maneuver. Target angle error is extracted from the magnitude ratio of difference channel to sum channel. In this paper, we introduce a radar Return Signal Simulation Equipment(RSSE) which is implemented for the purpose of performance analysis and evaluation of phased array multi-function radar(MFR). It generates multi-target environment with jamming signals using MC-DDS (Multi-Channel Direct Digital Synthesis), and has scalability by using the efficient hardware configuration. The performance of the developed RSSE has been evaluated under various test environments. Especially, we proved that required target detection performance is achieved by RSP(Radar Signal Processor) interfaced RSSE configuration.

  • At the current camera-based technology level, sensor-based basic life pattern recognition technology has to suffer inconvenience to obtain accurate data, and commercial band products are difficult to collect accurate data, and cannot take into account the motive, cause, and psychological effect of behavior. the current situation. In this paper, radar technology for life pattern recognition is a technology that measures the distance, speed, and angle with an object by transmitting a waveform designed to detect nearby people or objects in daily life and processing the reflected received signal. It was designed to supplement issues such as privacy protection in the existing image-based service by applying it. For the implementation of the proposed system, based on TI IWR1642 chip, RF chipset control for 60GHz band millimeter wave FMCW transmission/reception, module development for distance/speed/angle detection, and technology including signal processing software were implemented. It is expected that analysis of individual life patterns will be possible by calculating self-management and behavior sequences by extracting personalized life patterns through quantitative analysis of life patterns as meta-analysis of living information in security and safe guards application.

  • The problem for parameters estimation of the received signals impinging on array sensors has long been of great research interest in a great variety of applications, such as radar, sonar, and land mobile communications systems. Conventional subspace-based algorithms, such as MUSIC and ESPRIT, require an extensive computation of inverse matrix and eigen-decomposition. In this paper, we propose a new parameters estimation algorithm via nonlinear minimization, which is simplified computationally and estimates signal parameters simultaneously.

  • For detection and parameter estimation, a multicarrier radar should discriminate a channel containing jamming signal and either leave it out or regenerate jammer suppressed target signal. To discriminate jamming channels, we use the angular spectrum of an eigenvector that embeds target echoes and jamming signals. We propose a criteria to discriminate the jammer channels and its basis through mathematical analysis. Moreover, we show some procedures to regenerate the jammer suppressed target echoes. Finally, the validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation results showing improved performance in terms of direction of arrival(DOA) estimation.

  • To determine detection capabilities of locating steel bars and delamination inside concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include two radar systems and two electromagnetic method systems. The inclusions are a 19 mm diameter steel bar and 50 mm thick delamination embedded at different cover depths from the surface of concrete specimens. For the steel bar, attempts were made to determine the size of the bars by changing the diameter of the bars. A sample result of measuring horizontal spacing between doubly reinforced bars is presented in this paper. Experimental results on various measurement cases are discussed. Application of numerical modeling technique for the simulation of radar measurements and improved output display of radar measurements are also presented.

  • Frequency bandwidth has been combined to determine adequate frequency bandwidth which is necessary for nondestructive testing when using inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR). For imaging inside of concrete specimens using radar, the principles of radar and signal processing are discussed. Experimental data obtained from radar measurement of three different concrete specimens at two different frequency bandwidths of 2∼3.4 GHz, 3.4∼5.8 GHz and these two frequencies are combined to obtain improved imagery. A signal processing scheme has been implemented to visualize inside concrete specimens. The influence of frequency bandwidth was analyzed in nondestructive testing by changing frequency bandwidth for concrete specimen.

  • In this paper, a transmitter and a receiver using a Gunn diode and SBD was designed and fabricated in X-band. This system detects Doppler shift signal reflected by moving target through the homodyne detection, which is Doppler radar sensor for the measurement of the velocity of moving target. By the experimental results, the oscillating condition of the transmitter was satisfied at about the half wavelength between the supporting post of the Gunn diode in the waveguide and the waveguide short. And using the fabricated Doppler radar sensor, the velocity measurement deviation of moving target was 1.24%.

  • The Counter-battery radar estimates the origin and impact point of the artillery by tracking the trajectory of the shell. In addition, it has the ability of identifying the type of weapon. Depending on the position between the shell and the radar, the detected signals appear differently. This has ambiguity to distinguish the type of shells. This paper compares fuzzy logic and artificial intelligence, which classifies type of shell using the parameter of signal processing step. According to the research result, artificial intelligence can improve identification rate of type of shell. The data used in the experiment was obtained from a live fire detection test.

  • We present an implementation result of a computer GUI-based simulator using MATLAB to verify the performance of interferometric radar altimeter(IRA) which is possible to measure the slant range altitude and the cross-track angle to the nearest point for terrain aided navigation(TAN). After a brief description of the principle of TAN and IRA, we present that the grids are divided for the modeling of the reflected signal in digital elevation map(DEM) and so the radar cross section(RCS) of each grid is calculated and the signal-noise ratio(SNR) of the reflected signal in the radar beam width. And the signal processing procedures of the IRA and the structure of the IRA simulator are shown.
