An analysis of Financial Factors' Characteristic for Global Shipping Companies using Panel Regression Analysis (패널회귀분석을 이용한 글로벌 선사의 재무요인 특성분석에 관한 연구)

  • This study performed Panel Regression Analysis (PRA) with the debt ratio as a dependent variable and the ROE (return on equity), sales volume, current ratio, total capital, and Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) as an independent variable. According to the GLS analysis, the current ratio to liabilities ratio was negative, and for sales, the ratio of liabilities was positive. Capital totals also had a negative impact on the debt ratio. However, ROE, unlike the hypothesis, had negative effects on the liability ratio, and the SCFI index was not significant. As implications of this research, the company confirmed that its sales increased as the debt ratio of global shipping companies rose, achieving economies of scale. However, it was confirmed that the actual size of the economy through the injection of other capital would help increase sales but not affect net profit. Shipping companies should expand their business power and secure large container vessels to secure credibility of shippers. In the future research, an analysis considering exchange rate, global economic growth rate, and manufacturing production index is needed.

  • 현재의 환경문제는 국가적인 경계를 떠나서 지역적 및 범 지구적인 수준으로 인류의 생존을 위협하고 있다. 특히 한반도를 포함한 동북아지역은 전 세계적으로 인구가 밀집되어 있으며 경제발전속도가 빠른 지역으로서 심각한 대기오염문제를 야기 시킬 수 있는 상당한 양의 대기오염물질이 배출되고 있으며 이 지역의 풍향은 주로 서풍이기 때문에 중국의 풍하측에 위치한 한반도와 일본 등지에서는 중국에서 발생한 대기오염물질로 인한 피해가 급증하고 있으며 이에 대한 대책마련에 노력과 관심을 쏟고 있다. (중략)

  • 인천항 항만인력 상용화가 7월5일 실시된 인천항운노조원 찬반투표에서 가결됨에 따라 확정되었다. 이번 인천항 체제 개편은 부산항과 평택당진항(평택지역) 상용화에 이은 세 번째 성과로 인천노조 항만분야 노조원 전체(1,741명)가 상용화되어 그 원인이 역대 최대규모(부산 1,224명, 평택 275명)이다. 이에 따라 인천을 비롯하여 부산, 평책 당진항에서 100년만에 항만에서의 노무공급체제가 획기적으로 개편된다. 다음은 항운노무인력 상용화에 따른 의의 및 추진상황, 경제적 파급효과 등을 정리한 것이다.

A Study on Changes in the Centrality Movement of Coastal Shipping Passengers Utilizing the SNA Method (SNA 방법을 통한 연안해운 승객 중심성 이동변화 분석)

  • In this study, SNA analysis was conducted to examine changes in passenger movements in domestic coastal shipping. The validity of derivation of centrality rankings was enhanced by using the connection centrality that reflected weights, which had not been applied in previous research. The results of the connection centrality analysis indicated that the network composition ratio of the South Sea region was high, and the results of analysis of betweenness centrality indicated that ports belonging to the South Sea region recorded high ranks. Jeju Island, which acts as a gateway to the West Sea and the South Sea, Mokpo, which acts as a gateway between the land and islands, those ports that are geographically close to the land, and those ports that are smoothly connected to small ports, were shown to have betweenness centrality. Meanwhile, in the results of analysis of eigenvector centrality, not only ports in the South Sea region but also many ports in the West Sea region were included in the high ranked ones. Using these results, the port authority can identify major ports in domestic coastal shipping, determine the priorities support, identify the current situation of the port connection relations, and establish strategies for management of key development areas. As future studies, studies in the aspect of economy that separate general passengers and island passengers and utilize data such as fares, distances, and time are necessary.

  • Due to the impact of COVID-19 in 2020, online growth is increasing more rapidly, and the need for MFCs has become important to strengthen the Last Mile service, especially in Gangnam and Seocho, where population density is high. This study analyzed MFC operation case studies using Arc GIS (Geographic Information System), and in the case of Seoul, delivery to four MFC bases is not possible within 30 minutes, and for delivery within 30 minutes, it is necessary to secure MFC bases in areas with many consumers. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that two to three MFC operating bases are needed for each region based on Seoul Metropolitan Government and at least one base for each administrative district depending on the delivery service after ordering.

  • The Seosan-Daesan Port is a representative trade port in Chungnam, and has the sixth largest total cargo throughput and the third largest oil cargo throughput in Korea. However, research on this port's development is lacking relative to that for Busan Port, Incheon Port, and Gwangyang Port, and no study exists that suggests the direction of the development strategy for Seosan-Daesan Port. This study discusses the future role of Seosan-Daesan Port in preparation for a rapidly changing future and the development strategy that should be established. Using the AHP, a development strategy is provided for Seosan-Daesan Port from short/mid-term and long-term viewpoints for three aspects: operation activation, infrastructure construction, and policy support. Operation activation is chosen as the most significant factor from a short/mid-term viewpoint, whereas infrastructure construction is recognized as important from a long-term viewpoint. Specifically, from a short/mid-term viewpoint, sustainable container cargo attraction, multipurpose dock construction, management pier construction, and opening of international passenger ferry lines are important factors while from the long-term viewpoint, hinterland construction, petrochemical industry cluster construction, automobile industry cluster construction, and management improvement system are important. Establishing action plans for each strategy and a cooperative network for sharing goals and strengthening cooperation is necessary.

A Study on Estimating Ship Emission - Focusing on Gwangyang Port and Ulsan Port (선박에 기인한 대기오염물질 배출량 산정 연구 -광양항과 울산항을 중심으로)

  • Recently, air pollution from the marine ports has become a serious issue all over the world. Because marine trade accounts for 99.7% of Korea's trade, efforts are required to recognize the level of port pollution and establish environmental policies. This study estimates air pollution emitted during the berthing process in the Gwangyang and Ulsan ports. Data on ship activity and characteristics are collected and reasonable methodologies and factors from EEA and EPA are adopted. The results show that 253.09 tons of CO, 1986.61 tons of NOx, 684.01 tons of SOx, 47.88 tons of $PM_{10}$, and 44.69 tons of $PM_{2.5}$ are emitted at the Gwangyang port. Further, the Ulsan port emitted 212.28 tons of CO, 1712.54 tons of NOx, 573.72 tons of SOx, 40.16 tons of $PM_{10}$, and 37.48 tons of $PM_{2.5}$. A stage-by-stage plan for installing AMP infrastructure is suggested as part of a green port policy. This research provides the current pollution status and contributes guidelines for the direction of future policy.

A Study on the Priority Analysis of Yeosu-Gwangyang Port Development Strategy (여수광양항만 발전전략의 우선순위 분석 연구)

  • Yeosu Gwangyang Port, along with Busan Port, Incheon Port, Ulsan Port, and Pyeongtaek Dangjin Port, serves as Korea's top five ports for trade on the southern coast. It is the second largest port in Korea after Busan Port, and the largest port in terms of import and export volume. Yeosu Chemical Industrial Complex, the world's largest chemical industrial complex, has continued to grow rapidly, but recently, the increase in volume has been decreasing. Therefore, this study sought to find major development strategies for the development of Yeosu Gwangyang Port and to derive the priorities of the strategies. To this end, the development strategy of Yeosu Gwangyang Port was divided into three major categories: operation revitalization, infrastructure construction, and policy support using the AHP analysis technique and analyzed again in two aspects: short, medium, and long term. As a result of the analysis, 'integrated operation of container docks and strengthening competitiveness' were considered the most important in short- and medium-term policies. It is believed that it will be necessary to integrate container operators, establish routes in preparation for entry of super-large ships, and install large cranes. In the long-term policy, the most important thing was to foster high value-added industries based on local industries. It is believed that strategies are needed to attract companies from outside regions through the settlement support system. The results of this study are expected to be used to establish development strategies for Yeosu Gwangyang Port and to establish investment priorities.

An Analysis of Changes in Air Pollutant Emissions Due to the Introduction of the Special Act on the Improvement of Air Quality in Port Areas -Focusing on Incheon Port (항만지역등 대기질 개선에 관한 특별법 도입에 따른 대기오염물질 배출량 변화 분석 -인천항을 중심으로 )

  • This study aims to analyze the effect of reducing air pollutant emissions of the ship fuel oil sulfur content regulation policy, which has been gradually introduced for three years. In addition, the emission reduction effect of VSR and AMP was also analyzed. The analysis was conducted on NOx, CO, VOC, SOx, TSP, PM10, and PM2.5, which are provided by EEA, and the spatial scope of the analysis was conducted on Incheon Port, which is located in the metropolitan area of Korea and has a large ripple effect on air pollution. Three scenarios were constructed for analysis. Scenario 1: If there is no policy, Scenario 2: If only fuel oil sulfur content regulation was implemented, Scenario 3: The analysis was conducted by reflecting fuel oil sulfur content regulation, VSR, and AMP. As a result of the analysis, in the case of scenario 1, 4,801 tons, 4,932 tons, and 5,144 tons of air pollutants were emitted during the three-year period. In Scenario 2, 4,219 tons, 4,152 tons, and 3,989 tons were discharged, and in Scenario 3, 4,198 tons, 4,138 tons, and 3,973 tons were discharged. The findings of this study are anticipated to be applied as fundamental research in port air environment management and Incheon Metropolitan City air management.

The Political Economic Analysis of the Siberian Pipeline Construction (시베리아 송유관 건설의 정치경제학적 고찰)

  • The goal of the study is to analyze aggressive attempts of China and Japan to construct the Siberia oil pipeline in a direction to its advantage from the political economic perspective. The pipeline is to affect significantly energy Policies in the Northeast Asia in the future. First this Paper reviews the ongoing Processes of the Pipeline construction thus far. Next, domestic and foreign factors in Russia which are related to the laying of the pipeline, were taken into consideration. Applicability of the mercantilist and liberalist approaches to the energy supply of Russia were examined in the situation. As a result, the dualistic approach in energy supply was found to be limited in its real applicabilities and the political economic approach proved to be more suitable in that Russia currently seeks economic security in Northeast Asia. Finally the implications of the Siberia oil pipeline construction were suggested for the current energy situation in Korea.
