  • The study aims at constructing adaptation model, CampusQual, to evaluate the services which Tsinghua provides for Korean Students. The study is based on ServQual's "expectation-feeling difference" via conducting a survey on satisfaction on their campus life. We implement a survey including 30 questions in 5 sections: demographic statistics, study & information literacy, campus life, social & culture and regulations. Then through CampusQual model, we analyze the Korean students' adaptation level. CampusQual is a new service model that would enable Korean students to better live and study in universities in China. It also provides feasible suggestions and guidance for administrators on improving campus services for Korean Students.

  • Disagreements between the technical environment and the conventional library catalog have caused a re-clarification of International Cataloguing Principles (ICP). Review is under way to finalize the publication of RDA (Resource Description and Access) in late 2009 by the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA. The impending RDA is based on FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) which re-explains the bibliographic universe focused on entities, attributes and relationships between resources, but tries to maintain MARC as an encoding format for RDA. In this study, firstly FRBR, ICP and RDA were analyzed. Secondly, we propose 3 scenarios of RDA implementation: the future cataloging system based on the FRBR Entity, using a semantic web structure, and the scenario using the existing MARC format with some small changes. Finally, by examining response patterns of overseas bibliographic institutions, we present a set of urgent issues for future directions of bibliographic contro in Korea which includes, but not limited to, relationship between RDA/FRBR and KCR (Korean Cataloging Rules), continuation of KORMARC and authority control.

  • This study aims to propose an extended OAK metadata for research data that would be described in OAK, an open access repository of the National Library of Korea. As a research method, literature review, case studies, and interviews with related parties were conducted. The method of extending the existing OAK metadata for research data was derived as follows. First, in modeling for research data, the structure of the collection> item> file is maintained, the collection is placed as a higher group to which the research data can be grouped, and item was combined metadata and files or digital objects of various formats together. Second, by mapping the metadata standard and case organizations with the existing OAK metadata, elements judged to need to be extended to OAK for research data were selected and reflected in the existing OAK. Third, the controlled vocabulary and syntax are also proposed so that it can be used for search or later statistics through structured data. By expanding the OAK metadata to describe research data, research data produced in Korea can be officially stored and used, which is the basis for preventing duplication of research and sharing and recycling research results nationally.

  • This study is to seek to apply resource types of RDA to KCR4. It is difficult to choose appropriate term and to embody FRBR model because GMD of KCR4 is the mixture of content-based vocabularies and carrier-based vocabularies. SMD is to need to reflect the current technological terms. Resource type of RDA was already developed to overcome limitation of AACR2's GMD, and would affect the world cataloging environment, therefore it is need to apply resource type of RDA to Korean cataloging rule. For this study, case study and survey were used. In case study, it was to scan all GMD term for one university library to build by programming and to grape librarian and users' potential need. In the survey by cataloging librarian, it was to figure out the current description of resource type in university library and to test RDA resource type. As a result, it was needed to revise the vocabulary to the obvious and user-understandable list. Also it was different in correction rate in RDA testing by resource type. Based on the case study and the survey, RDA resource type was applied to KCR4 resource list by adding term such as computer game in content type, and by inserting terms such as DVD, CD-ROM, Blu-Ray, computer file in carrier type. It also applied RDA description method and display means to KCR4. This study would apply RDA resource type to KCR4 and contribute to revise KCR4 resource type.

  • The purpose of this research is to increase understanding about 'an attitude' and to develop the contents of the reading attitude survey questionnaire through the analysis and comparison of reading attitude models. An attitude has an individual's perception and feeling about events, problems, people or things, and it also includes the state prepared for reaction. An attitude consists of emotion, cognition and behavior and it is formed by experience, learning or value judgment. Reading attitudes are composed of cognitive factors that represent beliefs or opinions about reading, emotional factors that represent evaluation and emotion about reading, and behavioral factors that represent intentions or behavior to reading. The analysis of the components of the reading attitude models shows the fact that the influencing factors of reading attitude formation are the reading experience, beliefs of reading results, beliefs about others' expectations and reading environments. Thus, the contents of reading attitude survey questionnaires should include such contents as reading experience, beliefs of reading results, beliefs about others' expectations, and reading environments.

  • As Open Data has been emphasized globally, discussions on data policies have occurred for minimizing problems resulting from data sharing and reuse. This study aimed at investigating policy components for controlling access and use of data and examining similarities and differences of the policy components across disciplines. For the purpose, the study analyzed policy components for data access and use controls provided by 37 research data repositories overseas. These included twenty repositories in biological and health science, ten in chemistry, earth and environmental science and physics, as well as seven in social science and general science. The analysis showed that common policy components involve copyright/licenses, data citation, disclaimers and embargoes. However, there were differences in diversity of policy components among the disciplines and it indicated that the rationales of access and use controls emphasized would be different in the disciplines.

  • In this study, the appraisal in record continuum theory is analyzed in conjunction with the appraisal in life cycle model. In order to understand the more fundamental implications of appraisal in electronic record environment, it is essential to analyze the appraisal inherent in record continuum theory. Record continuum theory can provide a theoretical basis for appraisal in electronic record environment in that it is a theoretical system in opposition of the appraisal based on life cycle model and dualistic records management system resulting from it. In particular, considering that the appraisal is a purposive act of seeking the meaning of records, the reinterpretation of the concept and meaning of records intended in record continuum theory enables us to derive the different appraisal logics than before. Therefore In this study, based on comparison with the appraisal based on life cycle model and the new record concept presented in record continuum, the appraisal in record continuum theory is analyzed focusing on three aspects.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain basic information and suggestions needed to measure reading attitude by obtaining the tacit knowledge. For this, a semi-structured interviews were carried out with teacher librarians and elementary school teachers and elementary students in five elementary schools. The results were as follows: Students and Teachers divided standard and attribute for assessing reading attitudes as student's ability, personality and behavioral aspects towards reading. Students were aware of the necessity of reading and accepted a pleasant feeling of reading. However, group of students with low reading skill recognized reading as an academic purpose as compared to other student groups and expressed a negative feeling on reading. Peers, teachers and family members were recognized as figures who make an impact on reading by students and further considered the subject, content and physical attribute of book as important factors. Teachers recognized reading attitude as a concept on attitude about book and book reading. Further they mentioned reading environment, interests, habits, books, and experience as factors affect reading attitude.
