Detection of Long Period Seismic Events by Using a Portable Gravity Meter, gPhone (이동식 중력계(gPhone)를 활용한 장주기 지진 이벤트 관측)

  • A gravity meter has been used for exploring subsurface mineral resources and monitoring long-period events such as Earth tides. Recently, researchers found several other intriguing features that we could even detect large teleseismic earthquakes and monitor seismic ambient noise using gravimeters. The zero-length spring suspension technology gives the gPhone (Micro-g LaCoste) excellent low frequency sensitivity, which may have implications for investigating much longer-period natural events (e.g., Earth's hum, tsunami waves, etc.). In this study, we present preliminary results through temporary operation of the gPhone at Geumsan in South Korea for 9 months (Nov. 2008-Jul. 2009). The gPhone successfully recorded large teleseismic events and showed a clear seasonal variation of the Double frequency microseisms during its operation period.

  • In this study, it is demonstrated by a pseudo dynamic earthquake response tests that combination of semi-rigid partial-strength using the high performance-high strength bolts and inter-story hysteretic damper system creates a fairly good structural system that satisfies not only the serviceability requirement under moderate earthquakes but unexpected failure of damper system.

Aseismic analysis for large underground structure (대형 지하구조물의 내진해석)

  • The large underground structure under earthquake is affected more by soil dynamic characteristic and volume of structure than by structural dynamic characteristic itself. Therefore, it is the purpose of research that the aseismic analysis for caverns including various aseismic analysis factors (rock quality-Q value, soil dynamic characteristic, shape ratio $&$ volume, underground structural dynamic characteristic, and aseismic level) are applied by using the numerical analysis program (SAUS; seismic analysis of underground structures). The result of research is stated that maximum strain, maximum moment, and maximum shear are not sensitive with respect to shape ratio. However those values are sensitive with respect to Q value, volume of underground structure and aseismic level. Based on the results of this research, the assessment for the influence factors of aseismic analysis for large underground structure could be possible.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose damper system which is easy to design, which can ensure against risks, and to verify earthquake response characteristics. For this study, the pseudo dynamic earthquake response tests carried out for steel frames with metallic damper. As a result, in case of using the metallic damper as a vibration control device proposed by this study, the damper having higher stiffness than main-structure turned to the state of plasticity by little displacement has been proved to be able to absorb earthquake energy.

  • The cases of animals unusual behavior have been reported occasionally before a major disaster occurs. Could animals unusual behavior associated with a major disaster occurrence, if so, could we foreknow a disaster occurrence? The purpose of study is to quest an answer through literature reviews on the relation between animals unusual behavior and premonitory symptoms of an earthquake. These empirical studies are classified three parts according as methodological framework; statistical analysis, experimental analysis, observation analysis. The results are simply divided as two, 'animals unusual behavior may be seen as a precursor of pre-disaster phenomena' and 'difficult to see.' A number of studies have been performed abroad, however there is no one in Korea. Most of the studies point out common limitations-difficult to verify the reliability of data, accidentally get and fewer samples of data, difficulty of ensuring appropriate data, etc. That is why more related research with animals unusual behavior and disaster occurrence is needed to validate cause-and-effect relation of animal unusual behavior and pre-disaster phenomena.

Efficient Seismic Analysis of Building Structures with Eccentric Beams (보의 편심효과를 고려한 건축구조물의 효율적인 지진해석)

  • 고층구조물의 해석에 사용되는 ETABS와 같은 상용프로그램은 해석의 단순화를 위하여 강막가정을 사용하게 된다. 이와 같은 강막가정은 일반적으로 바닥판의 휨 강성과 보의 편심효과를 무시하게 된다. 이러한 가정은 골조구조물의 정적해석에 대해서는 정당한 결과를 얻을 수 있으나 동적해석의 경우에는 바닥판의 휨 강성과 보의 편심효과가 구조물의 횡 방향 거동에 주요한 영향을 미치게 된다. 그러나 바닥판의 영향과 보의 편심효과를 고려하기 위해서는 유한요소의 특성상 바닥판과 보를 여러 개의 요소로 나누어야 하며, 이로 인하여 해석과 구조물의 모형화에 많은 시간이 소요되는 단점이 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 부분구조기법과 대형요소를 사용한 효율적인 모형화 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 또한 최종적으로 각 층에 대하여 강막가정을 적용하여 층 당 3개의 자유도만을 고려하는 막대모델을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 제안한 모형화기법의 정당성을 검토하기 위하여 구조물의 응답을 비교하였다.

Large Crack Model and Its Numerical Algorithm for Damage Analysis of Dynamically Loaded Structures (동하중을 받는 구조물의 손상해석을 위한 대형균열모형과 수치 알고리즘)

  • In this paper a constitutive model for large cracks in concrete and other brittle materials subject to dynamic and cyclic leading is presented. The suggested model is based on the plastic-damage model for cyclic leading. A numerical formulation based on the three-step return-mapping algorithm for the proposed large crack model is also present. The numerical examples show that the present algorithm works appropriately under dynamic leading and should be used in large crack problems to prevent excessive tensive plastic strain development causing unrealistic results.

  • 본 연구에서는 지진하중을 받는 구조물의 MR감쇠기를 이용한 모드제어를 구현하고자 한다. 모드제어는 저차의 모드만을 이용하여 구조물의 진동을 제어한다. 따라서 토목구조물과 같은 자유도가 많은 대형구조물의 제어에 적합하며, 제어기의 설계 역시 다른 제어이론에 비해 간편하다. 모드제어에 대한 앞선 연구들이 많이 있음에도 불구하고, 반능동제어, 특히 MR감쇠기에 대한 모드제어의 성능에 대한 연구가 없었다. 본 연구에서는 MR댐퍼에 대한 효율성을 검토하기 위해서, 모드제어이론을 지진하중을 받는 구조물에 구현하였다. 센서로부터 측정된 응답을 이용하여 모드응답을 예측하기 위해 칼만필터를 구현하였으며, Spillover problem을 해결하기 위해 low-pass filter가 적용되었다. 수치예제를 통해 저차의 모드만을 제어함으로써, 구조물의 거동이 효과적으로 줄어드는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 줄어드는 정도는 제어기의 가중치행렬과 칼만필터에 사용되는 센서에 의해 측정된 응답에 따라 다르다
