  • Reincarnation, literally means "to be made flesh again". It is a mystical belief that the soul lives again in a new body after death. In this study, both material and spiritual elements are reincarnated in the form of the formative art in our life. This is similar to the notion of transmigration of the souls in Buddhism and Taoism. The concept "reincarnation"has a functional values as it provides a new tool in the education in the field. Especially in the digital design, the concept has become an essential contents as a text. The education employed the concept has a feature of edutainment which has been considered as an innovative method of education. The edutainment stimulates students' inner motivation and interests. This eventually leads them to use their own creativity in their study and achieve their goals. The education adopting the concept of reincarnation is more than the recycling of the used materials. It presupposes the understanding of the essence as well as the philosophical value of the materials. The creativity in the Visual Arts can be achieved with these educational foundations.

  • Today's society demands that Individuals need to acquire skills to select information they need, read critically that have been gathered and use them for their advantage. The ability to actively respond to information can be cultivated through reading which facilitates creative, critical thinking, and self-initiated learning. This research presents results from a study in which subject-centered approach to reading guidance was applied to elicit positive changes in reading attitudes and to contribute to the elevation of self-concept among adolescents. Using survey questionnaire, we compared the changes in reading attitude before and after treatment. The results indicate that subject-centered reading instruction brought positive changes in reading attitude among middle school students, contributed positively to the formation of self-concept and the improved student initiated learning.

  • In this paper, we suggested generally some samples and cases of portfolio but centered on elementary mathematics in New Zealand elementary school in the aspects of the assessment for learning activity of learner and so we have found some suggestive points by comparing New Zealand portfolio with ours. Finally, we have an objects that the teachers here in Korea can use these results as a cases which are benchmarked by them. We had known through this paper that portfolio assessment in New Zealand elementary school deals with various aspects and it was accessing in the direction of creating knowledge positively through the real life, not textbookish or artificial problem and also it had a characteristics dealing with real life situation or context without filtering. Especially, it always dealt with all regions of curriculum and looked like focusing on the connections of curriculum relatively.

  • This paper reports a novel structural health monitoring (SHM) technique for detecting de-bonding between a concrete beam and CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) sheet that is attached to the concrete surface. To achieve this, a multi-scale actuated sensing system with a self-sensing circuit using piezoelectric active sensors is applied to the CFRP laminated concrete beam structure. In this self-sensing based multi-scale actuated sensing, one scale provides a wide frequency-band structural response from the self-sensed impedance measurements and the other scale provides a specific frequency-induced structural wavelet response from the self-sensed guided wave measurement. To quantify the de-bonding levels, the supervised learning-based statistical pattern recognition was implemented by composing a two-dimensional (2D) plane using the damage indices extracted from the impedance and guided wave features.

  • Recently, as the educational paradigm shifts from teacher-centered to learner-centered, the active construction of knowledge of learners is becoming more important. Accordingly, classes using mathematical modeling are receiving attention. However, existing research is focused on teachers or middle and high school students, so it is difficult to apply the contents and results of the research to preservice teachers. Therefore, in this study, the experience of mathematical modeling was examined for elementary school preservice teachers. And we looked at how positive experiences of mathematical modeling change their perceptions. As a result of the study, elementary school preservice teachers had very little experience in mathematical modeling during their school days. In addition, it was found that the perceptions changed more positively than when a theoretical class on mathematical modeling was conducted, rather than when the experience of mathematical modeling was actually shared. Based on the results of this study, implications were suggested in the course of training preservice teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify that students' interest in team activities for problem solving, the effect of interest on it, and students' changes in perceptions and their behavioral characteristics in the process of problem solving. The study reviewed documents prepared by students, such as work sheets, descriptive questionnaires, works and their photos, student activity photos and observation journals of teachers. The results of this research are as below. First, a problem solving team activity for making a model car was considered an interesting assignment by more than 90% of male/female students. The fact that female students could be more focused on this assignment than male students was discovered. Interest in the assignment not only had an influence on the points from the start (the blueprint) to the end (model cars completed based upon the designs) of problem solving, but also provided the traction power behind the assignment. Second, the problem solving team activity allowed the students to change their existing recognition (thoughts) while positively taking a lead or indirectly utilizing various learning experiences (including experiences of failure). Third, $2^{nd}$ graders in middle school had a tendency to solve problems in dependently rather than to receive help from others when they encountered problematic situations.

  • This study is to design and apply the Havruta class in the geography class and to investigate the effects of the students' attitude on the geography class and the change of the academic achievement through the Havruta class. As a result, it was found to be effective. The students who experienced the lessons in the class were more interested in the geography class, so they were more active in the class activity and they were useful as the class strategy to turn into the self - leading learner participation class. Through the help of Havruta class, students have been helped to understand the concept of geography, and it can be seen that their interaction with their mates has changed into an active attitude to improve their problem-solving ability and creative thinking ability. But, the students who experienced Havruta class did not get a meaningful difference in the evaluation of academic achievement after the class application. We can expect a positive effect on the application of short-term teaching, but it is necessary to give appropriate grace period to the evaluation of the cognitive domain and to develop a proper evaluation method rather than the existing selective evaluation I knew.

  • Meaningful learning occurs through an active process of engaging with the content in a lively interaction between teacher and student. In this study, we explored teachers' learning, challenges, and changes as they learned and practiced responsive teaching (RT), a practice that supports students to put their ideas at the center of their lessons. As a result, we found that teachers initially embraced RT from different perspectives and struggled to implement it in ways they understood. We then explored RT more deeply by focusing on the case of a teacher who was teaching science herself, and found that her experience was both rewarding and confusing. However, by the end of the learning process, the teachers were able to define RT in their own ways, which strengthened their commitment to implementing RT in elementary science education. Based on this teacher learning process, it was suggested that teachers should be viewed as curriculum experts, that they should learn and explore collaboratively through a community of teachers, and that they should be researchers who continue to explore various practices in the field.
