  • This study has intended to find strategies improving rural amenity through establishing eco-village. This research presented eco-village establishment as an alternative to solve the problems that current rural villages face, such as FTA farming crisis, aging, weakening of farming competitiveness. Thus, this study has set up ecological rural amenity strategies, based on the principles and cases of both eco-village development and rural amenity through suitability analysis and statistical analysis with survey analysis. This study has defined the eco-rural amenity and set up such categories as environment, history-culture, society, image, and economy. Based on the definition and categories, this study has found the strategies to improve ecological rural amenity in accordance with categories.

  • The present study construct a new technique that can evaluate diverse rural policies, which have been applied to the rural development programs at the village level. The method incorporates spatial econometrics models with a decomposition method that has little been utilized before. We applies the technique to evaluate the rural development programs that have been carried out by the Korea Forest Service and. Korea Rural Development Agency. The technique proved to be quite useful in that the technique efficiently separate the direct effect caused by the government policy from the effect explained by the endowment effect such as regional or area characteristics, and residual effect that cannot be identified by the models. The present study concludes with suggesting more quantitative methods need to be developed to evaluate diverse government policy programs, which enables us to discern correct policy effects.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an in-service education program on multifunctionality of agriculture and rural areas. The in-service education program for general agricultural education was developed by reviewing literature, analyzing domestic in-service education programs. The program consisted of 3 fields - understanding, experiencing multifunctionality, and applying it to classroom, and contents validity was evaluated by 3 experts. And the program was applied to 268 elementary and secondary school teachers. Before and after the in-service education program, the survey was conducted. The survey questions were about motivation of participation, satisfaction level of program, and so on. Based on the analysis of survey data, some recommendations were suggested.

  • Drawing on Herzberg's two-factor theory, this article suggests that visitors to rural tourism base their overall evaluation with an experience on their consideration of two types of aspects referred to as either 'motivators' and 'hygienes' by using the critical incident technique. 233 critical incidents described by 121 participants are categorized into three exclusive factors which are named as experiential factor, cognitive factor, and affective factor. The application of Herzberg's two-factor theory to rural tourism suggests 'satisfiers' to come from the experience-activity itself, experiential factor. While more peripheral elements constitute 'dissatisfiers', cognitive factor. The paper provides the advancement and broad application of Herzberg's theory to further understand rural tourists satisfaction.

  • Village community centers are public locations where residential members of communities gather for various group meetings, social support, public information and recreational activities. Since the residents voluntarily operate the facilities, a convenient access to the center is a very important criterion for choosing where such facilities should be distributed throughout the districts. In particular, it is highly desirable to locate them within walking-distances from the residential populations. In this work, we have evaluated the accessibility to the community centers in several rural areas based on the surveys that were collected from year 2005 to 2012. We used the collected rural amenity resource distributions of the area for the evaluating the accessibilities to village center. More specifically, we considered some factors such as residential district and fraction of elderly population in the vicinity.

  • In the study it is assumed that regional characteristics of each Ri within a Myeon are different in certain degrees. This assumption implies that in some case of rural planning, Goon(county) or Myeon may be inadequate as a planning unit. because regional characteristics within Myeon will vary in a considerable degree. The objective of this study is to obtain knowledge relevant to ascertaining planning units by classifying entire number of Ri in Ansung Goon according to the components of regionality, namely the degree of sustaining agriculture and the degree of urbanizing. There was a significant variation among Ri within a Myeon the degree of sustaining agriculture as well as in the degree of urbanizing. In this study it is implied that rural program planning of Goon as a whole seems to be irrelevant. And planning Myeon level programs needs eventually adjustments in such a way of eliminating areas(Ri) which are of inconsistent character. Some planning such as farming cooperation may be efficient if they are to be undertaken at Ri basis. If the program planning include such activities of marketing and cooperative use of facilities, a group of Ri in consistent nature of regionality can be a unit of planning.

  • Kim, Bong-won * · Kim, Yoo-ill *1 Dept. of Landscape Architecture, Sungkyunkwan Univ. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Quality of Life with a sample set collected from 37F residents in Seoul Metropolitan's countryside. Collected data were analyzed by means of regression analysis. Research results indicated that the predictors of Quality of Life had a relationship with'job satisfaction','self satisfaction','residential satisfaction','income satisfaction'and other variables(Ra= .48). The residents who strongly satisfied with those variables were likely to satisfy with their life. Also, the existence of toyon office and the educational level emerged as a significant factors for the life satisfaction. This means that the residents located at toyon office or educated higher level satisfied more on their life. Thus the personal characteristics and environmental attributes played a basic role on the life satisfaction. Implications for future research are discussed, and methodological and analytical weaknesses of this study are identified.

  • For efficient development of rural facilities, 4 step optimum locational decision model was developed using agricultural-cum-industrial complex as a representative one ; formulation of locational goal system, ranking tabulation on components, determination of their significance values, calculation of their scores. The application results of the model to 3 typical case study areas(peri-urban flat, mountainous, coastal areas) showed relatively good representation of their areal characteristics.

  • This paper discuss on the strategies for rural economic development Maul purposes of this paper are as follow: First, to review importance of economic promotion in the integrated rural developmental scheme, Second, to identify structural problems of rural economy, and Third, to suggest promotional strategies for the development of rural economy. Economic vitalization is the very important strategy to support daily life of rural population. Since rural economy heavily depends on agricultural sector which has relatively low productivities, diversification of rural economy through introduction of 2nd and 3rd industrial sector is one of the most urgent tasks in rural Korea. Integrated, localized, and planning oriented approaches with reformation of incentive system for the development of rural economy are strongly recommended as new strategies.
