A Study on the Business of the Situation Analysis of Food Waste Recycling (음식물류 폐기물 재활용현황 분석을 통한 사업화 연구)

  • Development of food industry and increased city life induced enlarged generation of food waste which is currently reused in a wide range of way. In this study, treatment of food waste generated from the public agricultural product wholesale markets (they are categorized as business places which imposes the duty for reducing the food waste discarded) in Korea was investigated, and subsequently, a scheme for improving the food waste recycling business was suggested. The food waste treatment plants are mainly located in Kyeongki-do at 39.5% of total plants in Korea and the other provinces have less than 10% of the total numbers, among which public treatment plant was 38.0% and private plant was 62.0%. The treatment methods included recycling as animal feed at 47.5%, as compost at 36.4%, and the rest of food waste (12.6%) was treated in other ways. Remarkably, it was noticed that the amount of food waste treated in anaerobic digestion have been increased up to 5.4% since 2011. This implied that food waste treated in anaerobic digestion method is gradually increased according to government policy. Amongst 33 public agricultural product wholesale markets distributed all over the country, the trading volume dealt in Garakdong market in Seoul, Gangseo market in Seoul, Daegu market in Daeju, Eomgung market in Busan, Guri market in Guri accounted for 34.67, 7.47, 6.98, 5.41, and 5.30% of the total trading volume in Korea, respectively. 2.65% of the total trading agricultural products dealt in the markets were remained as food waste and treated. In 2006, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs implemented the package policy for radish and Chinese cabbage in order to reduce the amount of food waste and indeed, food waste generated in Garakdong market declined to one third of the food waste before the package policy implementation. In 2010, the food waste amount treated by 'dehydration', 'discarding as raw materials', and 'drying after dehydration' accounted for 56.3%, 33.7%, and 10.0% of the total food waste generated in the public agricultural product wholesale market. However, in 2013, discarding as raw materials accounted for the most at 56.3% followed by dehydration at 37.5%, and by drying after dehydration at 6.3%. The remarkable increment of the food waste discarded as raw materials was attributed to the increase of them in Garakdong market in Seoul. In general, the agricultural food waste contains high amount of moisture at 88% in average and low amount of salt at 0.02% in average. Therefore, it is highly recommended to treat the agricultural food waste through drying after dehydration in order for improving the treatment capability. Also, this recommendation can be supported by the fact that the end-products via drying after dehydration can be utilized as compost material. Overall, the agricultural food waste recycling business can be developed through integration of the treatment via 'drying after dehydration' and compost production.

  • 포장이란 유통단계에서 제품이 파손되거나 손상되지 않도록 보호하는 수단이며 원가절감과 생산성 향상을 통한 상품성의 제고는 물론 부가가치 증대 및 매출신장에도 큰 영향을 미친다. 더욱이 포장재료의 재활용, 환경친화성 신소재 개발 등에 따른 포장의 중요성에 대한 인식의 전환이 요구된다. 최근 환경보호 문제가 전 세계적으로 확대되면서 포장폐기물 처리의 중요성이 새로이 인식되어, 포장완충재의 주종을 이루던 플라스틱계 재료의 사용이 환경오염과 관련하여 엄격히 규제됨에 따라 환경친화력이 우수한 지류완충재의 사용이 증가하고 있으며, 농산물의 직거래가 활발해지고 생산자 실명제를 도입한 결과 농산물 포장용 골판지 상자의 기능이 운반용에서 판매용으로 전환되고 있으며 화려한 디자인과 필요이상의 강도로 설계, 유통되고 있어 과대포장이 심각한 수준에 달하고 있다. 유통과정 중 제품을 적절히 보호하고 적정 포장비로 물류합리화를 위해서는 제품의 완충 및 적정포장설계가 필요하며, 이를 위한 첫 번째 조건이 완충재 자체에 대한 특성의 평가와 이의 객관적 자료화이다. Development of Heated-Air Dryer for Agricultural Waste Using Waste Heat of Incineration Plant (소각장 폐열을 활용한 농업폐기물 열풍 건조장치 개발)

  • To manufacturing of solid fuel by reuse of the wastes, the drying unit which have 500 kg/hr of drying capacity was developed and experimentally evaluate the performance. The spinach grown in Nam-hae island were used for the experiments and investigated of the heated-air drying characteristics as the inlet amount of raw materials, raw material stirring status, conveying type and drying time. The drying air heated by the energy derived from the steam which is supplied from the incineration plant. The moisture contents of raw materials were measured 85.65%. The inlet flow rate of drying air made a difference as the depth of the raw materials loaded on the drying unit and temperature has showed 108~144℃. The drying speed of the mixed drying more than doubled as that of non mixed drying under the same drying type, inlet amount, drying time and drying air temperature. In each experiment, the drying capacity have showed over 500 kg/hr. A drying efficiency of the ratio of drying consumption energy to input energy was 33.46%, lower than the average of 57.76% for the 157 conventional dryers. Because developed dryer must have a drying time of less than one hour, it is considered that the dry efficiency has been reduced due to the loss of wind volume during drying. If waste heat from incineration plant is used as a direct heat source, the dry air temperature is expected to be at least 160℃, greatly improving the drying capacity.

  • Korean grape-seed that is one of the agricultural waste was used as a raw material to prepare activated carbon through roasting, carbonization and chemical activation processes. NaOH, KOH, ZnCl$^2$ were also used as activation reagents. The mixing of the ratios of the grape-seed and each activation reagent were varied to 100-300 weight percent. The surface areas of the activated carbon manufacture from the grape-seed were 44.09~121.33 m$^2$/g. The adsorbate transmittance of methylene blue was determined UV absorption at 660 nm as maximum adsorption wavelength using by UV spectrophotometer. As a result, adsorption of methylene blue on the activated carbon prepared with NaOH activation was more successful than others. Equilibrium absorption time was approximately 60 min.

  • 최근 우리나라도 전업축산농가의 양계사육 규모가 확대되면서 이에 수반되는 양계장 주변의 악취, 수질 오염 등의 환경문제가 심각하게 대두되고 있다. 축산경영의 건전한 발전을 위해서도 이 문제의 해결은 시급한 과제이며 특히 경영주의 환경의식과 의지가 문제해결의 시발점임을 인식해야 한다. 물론 양계장에서 환경친화적으로 계분을 처리한다는 것은 그리 용이한 일은 아니다. 특히 산란계 사육농가의 계분은 끈적끈적한 오물감과 냄새로 취급하기가 쉽지 않다. 그 원인은 수분 함유량이 높고 역분해성 유기물(분해 용이한 유기물)이 부패되면서 악취와 해충을 발생시키기 때문이다. 현재 계분처리방법은 여러 가지가 있으나 첫째, 지구환경에 친화적인 처리방법으로는 유기성 폐기물인 계분의 재활용에 있다고 생각한다. 현재와 같이 지구환경의 밸런스가 망가지는 상황은 사람들이 다량의 소비만 일삼고 환경 리싸이클에 관심이 덜한데 있다고 본다. 자원 순환형 사회에서 계분의 퇴비화로 가축분뇨를 유통 · 활용하는 일은 유기성 자원의 리사이클에 공헌하는 의미가 크다고 본다. 또한 우리나라의 축산업이 환경 보전형 농업을 실현하는데 보탬이 되는 양질의 퇴비를 대량 생산하여 경작농가에 공급, 유기질 농산물 생산에 많이 기여하길 바란다.

The Effect of Insoluble Dietary Fiber Extracted from Chinese Cabbage Waste on Plasma Lipid Profiles in Rats Fed a High Fat Diet (배추 폐기물로부터 분리한 불용성 식이섬유가 고지방 식이를 급여한 쥐의 혈중 지질농도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the lipid profiles for the possible improving activity of insoluble dietary fiber extracted from cabbage waste discarded during kimchi manufacture and market distribution. Enzyme-treated Insoluble Dietary Fiber (EIDF) is the remnants of crude dietary fiber (CDF) treated by ${\alpha}$-amylase, protease, and amyloglucosidase after removal of soluble materials from cabbage waste. The insoluble dietary fiber of CDF and EIDF in cabbage waste was $65.33{\pm}0.33%$ and $73.57{\pm}0.09%$, respectively. To examine the effects of EIDF on plasma cholesterol concentration, two group of rats were fed either a high fat diet (HFD) or a HFD containing 0.1~1.0% EIDF for 4 weeks. The body weight of all groups was not significantly different (p<0.05) but the body weight of EIDF+HFD groups was less than that of the HFD group (p<0.1). Compared with the HFD group, EIDF also lowered serum levels of total triglycerides to 11.2~23.3% and cholesterol to 26.8~28.5%. In EIDF+HFD groups, the HDL-cholesterol level increased by 7.2~26.1%, while LDL-cholesterol especially decreased by 51.0~61.4% and VLDL-cholesterol by 16.9~26.4%. The atherogenic index of EIDF+HFD groups was also reduced twice that of the HFD group. From these results, EIDF from cabbage waste could be a potential effective food ingredient for improving lipid profiles.

Frequent Forest Fire in Kosong-Gun, Kangwon Province (고성지방의 산불발생)

  • In this paper, the writer attempts to clarify causes by general man and weather factor on forest fire occurrence in Kosong-Area, 1995-2001. The major results are summarized as follows: The forest fire at Kojin-ri, Sonyusil-ri and Majwa-ri occurred at the same area over 3 times and that Hakya-ri, Songdae-ri and Inhung-ri, at the adjoining land over 3times. In the total 46 times of forest fire, fire frequence was greatest in March(11 time) and April(11 time) followed by November(7 time), January(6 time), February(6 time). December(3 time), October(2 time). Hours on frequent forest fire are from 11:00 till 18:00. Number for forest fire occurrence by causes was greatest in military training followed by burning paddy fields, debris burning, burning agricultural debris, visiting a grave, cigarette and arson. Frequent forest fire in Kosong-Area coincide not only with above normal temperatures, but also with below normal relative humidity. When the strong winds appear at Kosong-Area, the properties of daily surface chart re the south high and north low pressure pattern in the Far East Asia.

A Trend and Market in Eco-friendly Plasticizers: Review and Prospective (친환경 가소제의 시장과 동향)

  • Plasticizers are chemical additives added to polymers to have a desirable effect on mechanical properties such as processability and ductility. In this paper, we explore the use and market of eco-friendly plasticizers that can replace phthalate-based plasticizers that have been traditionally used in the plastics market. Bio plasticizers are derived primarily from biomass sources, including agricultural products, by-products and wastes. Regardless of the source of biomass, an ideal eco-friendly plasticizer should be non-toxic, have high resistance to volatilization, extraction, and migration, have good compatibility and compatibility, and be economical. The global bio plasticizer market is expected to reach USD 2.1 billion by 2030 from USD 1.3 billion in 2020, growing at a CAGR of 5.31% from 2021 to 2030.

Current status and future of insect smart factory farm using ICT technology (ICT기술을 활용한 곤충스마트팩토리팜의 현황과 미래)

  • In the insect industry, as the scope of application of insects is expanded from pet insects and natural enemies to feed, edible and medicinal insects, the demand for quality control of insect raw materials is increasing, and interest in securing the safety of insect products is increasing. In the process of expanding the industrial scale, controlling the temperature and humidity and air quality in the insect breeding room and preventing the spread of pathogens and other pollutants are important success factors. It requires a controlled environment under the operating system. European commercial insect breeding facilities have attracted considerable investor interest, and insect companies are building large-scale production facilities, which became possible after the EU approved the use of insect protein as feedstock for fish farming in July 2017. Other fields, such as food and medicine, have also accelerated the application of cutting-edge technology. In the future, the global insect industry will purchase eggs or small larvae from suppliers and a system that focuses on the larval fattening, i.e., production raw material, until the insects mature, and a system that handles the entire production process from egg laying, harvesting, and initial pre-treatment of larvae., increasingly subdivided into large-scale production systems that cover all stages of insect larvae production and further processing steps such as milling, fat removal and protein or fat fractionation. In Korea, research and development of insect smart factory farms using artificial intelligence and ICT is accelerating, so insects can be used as carbon-free materials in secondary industries such as natural plastics or natural molding materials as well as existing feed and food. A Korean-style customized breeding system for shortening the breeding period or enhancing functionality is expected to be developed soon.

  • 비료(肥料)를 공업적(工業的)으로 제조(製造)하여 농업(農業)에 사용(使用)하기 시작(始作)한 이래(以來) 신비종(新肥種)의 개발(開發)에 대한 관심(關心)은 부단(不斷)히 계속(繼續)되어 왔으며 현재(現在)에도 어느 국가(國家)나 생산업계(生産業界)에서 개발(開發)을 위한 노력(努力)을 많이 기우리고 있음이 현실(現實)일 것이다. 어느 국가(國家)와 어느 시대(時代)에 있어서나 현존(現存) 비종(肥種)을 생산(生産)함에는 소비(消費)와 생산면(生産面)에서 상응(相應)하는 사정(事情)이 있었을 것이며 또한 미래(未來)에도 신비종(新肥種)을 개량(改良)하거나 창제(創製)함에는 여러 가지 관련문제(關聯問題)를 검토(檢討)하여 새로운 요구(要求)에 합리적(合理的)으로 부합(符合)되도록 설계(設計)해야 할 것이다. 비료(肥料)는 현대(現代) 농업(農業)에서 불가피(不可避)하게 사용(使用)되는 기본자재(基本資材)이며 세계적(世界的)으로 그 소비(消費)가 증가(增加)되나 국가별(國家別) 농업(農業)의 특수성(特殊性)에 맞추어서 비료(肥料)의 형태(形態)와 생산량(生産量)에 차이(差異)가 있게 되며 또 변화(變化), 개량(改良)될 것이다. 우리나라의 농업(農業)이 최근(最近) 급속(急速)히 변화(變化)되면서 생산수단(生産手段)과 경영(經營)에도 큰 변혁(變革)이 불가피(不可避)하게 따라야 할 것으로 판단(判斷)된다. 생산수단(生産手段)의 개량(改良)은 농산물(農産物) 생산가(生産價)를 낮추고 노력(勞力)의 투입(投入)을 줄이며 우수품질(優秀品質)의 농산물(農産物)을 안정적(安定的)으로 생산(生産)하기 위한 대응책(對應策)이 될 것이다. 비료(肥料)의 사용(使用)은 이러한 시대적(時代的) 요구(要求)에 맞추어 신비종(新肥種)이 개발(開發)되고 시용기술면(施用技術面)에서 발전(發展)이 있어야 될 것이다. 미래(未來)의 우리 나라 농업(農業)을 위하여 개발(開發)되어야 할 비종(肥種)의 형태(形態)와 그에 관련(關聯)되는 요건(要件)은 다음과 같이 요약(要約)된다. 1. 시비효율(施肥效率)을 높히기 위하여서나 성력재배(省力裁培)를 위하여 완효성(緩效性) 비료(肥料) 특히 질소비료(窒素肥料)의 신비종(新肥種) 개발(開發)이 절실(切實)히 필요(必要)하다고 판단(判斷)됨. 신비종(新肥種)은 대상작물(對象作物)의 종류(種類), 재배방식(裁培方式) 및 기계화(機械化) 상태(狀態)에 적합(適合)한 형태별(形態別)로 제조(製造)됨이 바람직함. 완효성(緩效性) 질소비료(窒素肥料)의 제조(製造)에는 화학합성(化學合成), 성형화(成形化), 흡착화(吸着化) 및 피복화(被覆化) 방식중(方式中) 성형화(成形化)에 의한 것이 최다(最多)이나 피복화(被覆化)도 재료(材料)와 기술(技術)의 발전(發展)에 따라 증가(增加)의 경향(傾向)임. 2. 현존(現存) 복합비료(複合肥料)의 토양(土壤) 및 작물(作物)에 대한 적합성(適合性)을 재검토(再檢討)하여 효율(效率)을 높히도록 개량(改良)함. 3. 소시비방식(少施肥方式)의 영농(營農)으로서 환경(環境)을 오염(汚染)으로부터 방호(防護)할 것이며 4. 작물종류(作物種類)(품종포함(品種包含)) 유전자형별(遺傳子型別) 비료감응성(肥料感應性)을 검정(檢定)하여 소시비(少施肥), 고효율(高效率)을 기(期)하도록함. 5 작물(作物)의 영양생리학(營養生理學) 분야(分野)에서도 비료외적(肥料外的)인 성장관련요인(成長關聯要因)의 작용(作用)을 연구(硏究)하여 응용(應用)의 가능성(可能性)을 추구(追究)함이 미래(未來)의 한 과제(課題)가 될 것으로 생각됨. 예(例): 유전공학적(遺傳工學的) 기법(技法)에 의한 성장인자(成長因子)의 개량(改良) 또는 시비효율(施肥效率)의 증대(增大) 작물성장(作物成長)과 미생물활동(微生物活動)과의 상호관계(相互關係) 등(等). 6. 가용(可用) 자원(資源)의 비료화(肥料化)를 위하여 타산업(他産業)의 부산물(副産物) 및 폐기물(廢棄物) (특히 유기질(有機質) 자원(資源))을 효율적(效率的)으로 재활용(再活用)하도록 함.
