  • As a part of agricultural utilization of charcoal and pyroligneous acid, the effect of wood carbonization products on the growth of red pepper and soil microorganisms was investigated. The treatment of charcoal and pyroligneous acid provided good growth conditions to microorganisms through neutralizing soil acidity and improving the physicochemical properties of soil. Therefore the density of useful microorganism in the soil has been increased. In the growth of red pepper, the length, diameter, and the fruit numbers of red pepper have been increased by treating with wood carbonization products. It was especially shown that yield has increased about 50% in the fruit number, by treating charcoal 1kg, 1000 time-diluted solution of pyroligneous acid and bacteria, compared with the control. It was estimated that increasing the length of seedling and the diameter of red pepper stem contributed to the resistance against the prerequisites of various environmental changes in open field. Therefore, the final yield would be increased. In the antagonism experiment of red pepper mold (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides), the mold became extinct in the 2- and 10-time diluted solution of pyroligneous acid, compared with the control. On the other hand, their growth speed was delayed in the 100- and 1000 time-diluted solution.

  • Congruent $LiNbO_3$ single crystals and $LiNbO_3$ : Mg single crystals, having high resistance to optical damage, doped with MgO to the levels of 2.0, 5.0 and 7.0 mol% were grown successfully by CZ method and optical damage of each crystal was measured by compen. sation method. With doping level reaching about 5 mol%, there was an abrupt change in the features of optical absorption edge and $OH^-$ absorption band. From these data, we confirmed indirectly the threshold in MgO doping level. When the MgO doping amount reaches about 5 mol% in the melt, $Mg^{2+}$ occupies Nb site and becomes $Mg_{Nb}^{2+}$, resulting in the sharp increase of optical damage resistance. The optical damage resistance of $LiNbO_3$ : Mg was improved more than three times when MgO amount in the melt reaches 5 mol%.

  • This study explored the fact that libraries can be used as evacuation facilities, suggesting that existing libraries built not only strengthen their role and function as evacuation facilities but also need to be constructed or remodeled to meet the criteria for designation and operation of evacuation facilities. The use of closed schools was proposed to pursue economic efficiency and regional effects in building or remodeling, and the status of the evacuation facilities and closed school in Chungju was evaluated to check the effectiveness of these proposals, and closed school was assessed based on the capacity of the shelter. The three main points of discussion in this paper are as follows: ① Reconfirm what functions and roles the library are performing as an evacuation facility, and explore the advantages of using the library as an evacuation facility is used as an evacuation facility. ② Review and discuss the synergy by the role of the library and the closed schools. ③ Examine and discuss the synergy between these roles of the library and the closed school.

  • Text Generation is a process of generating comprehensible texts in human languages from some underlying non-linguistic representation of information. Among several sub-processes for text generation to generate coherent texts, this paper concerns referring expression generation which produces different types of expressions to refer to previously-mentioned things in a discourse. Specifically, we focus on pronominalization by zero pronouns which frequently occur in Korean. To build a generation model of referring expressions for Korean, several features are identified based on grammatical information and cost-based centering model, which are applied to various machine learning techniques. We demonstrate that our proposed features are well defined to explain pronominalization, especially pronominalization by zero pronouns in Korean, through 95 texts from three genres - Descriptive texts, News, and Short Aesop's Fables. We also show that our model significantly outperforms previous ones with a 99.9% confidence level by a T-test.

  • In order to find out the effect of five kinds of cultural treatments in fall crop production of potatoes the experiments were carried out with Simabara cultivar at Chonan in 1976. Sprouting of dormant seed pieces were induced by soaking in 2ppm GA and 250ppm Ethrel mixed solution for 60 minutes. Seed pieces with longer sprouts at transplanting, and increasing of urea(nitrogen) application from 10 to 30 Kg per 10a resulted better growth, yields, and quality. Application of total nitrogen at one time on 24th July(transplanting date) resulted lower emergence, yields, growth, and quality as compared with divided application on 24th July and 15th August and 5th September. Higher transplanting than 60$\times$20cm or 70$\times$17cm resulted slender growth and lower yields. Deeper mulch with wheat straw (from 4 to 12cm) induced lower maximal earth temperature in summer and higher minimal earth temperature in autumn.

  • Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) has been cultivated on raised beds with shading condition for 4 to 6 years because of its physiological characteristics. This shading condition maintains relatively stable soil environments protecting from rainfall and direct sunlight. Therefore, pesticides in ginseng growing soil are exposed to far different environment from the general cropping field. To study the behavior of pesticides under this condition, the effect of covering on the persistency of Procymidone in ginseng cultivating soil was investigated by using several shade materials. The most important factor affecting Procymidone persistency in soil under covering was water leakage rates of shade materials.

  • Three types of Korean strawberries, Gardian cultivated in vinyl house, Gardian cultivated on the field and Bogyo, at early variety, on the field were harvested after $10{\sim}34$ days from falling of flowers to investigate the chemical changes of fruits during maturing. The initial pH range after 10 days from falling of flowers was $4.13{\sim}4.28$, which was decreased to $3.40{\sim}3.49$ with maturing. The total acid was steadily increased for 26 days and then decreased thereafter. Vitamin C, not detected until 14 days, was gradually increased to $15.83{\sim}24.90mg%$ in 34 days. Reducing sugar content was increased for 24 days and then decreased, while total sugar, glucose and fructose were generally increased during maturing. Xylose was detected a little. For minerals, potassium was measured the highest value, followed by magnessium, and sodium. A trace amount of manganese, zinc and copper were detected. The strawberries had the content range of $6.00{\sim}24.60mg%$ of methyl alcohol and $6.00{\sim}24.40mg%$ of ethyl alcohol.

  • The purpose of this study is to give ROI informations about management status and investment returns to someone who will newly cultivate lycium chinese miller or expand area of its cultivation. In this study, IRR, B/C Ratio and NPV is used for ROI analysis. We basically surveyed fifty two among Lycium Chinese Miller cultivation farmhouses in chief producing districts Chungnam Chungyang, Jeonnam Jindo in Korea from May until September in 2009. Hence, this study surveyed these farmers about production cost, management cost, input labors and materials, land price and etc. by working process to calculate production and operation cost. As the result of farm survey, average selling price of Lycium Chinese Miller is 15,000 won per kg at locals for five years. However, when 3% discount rate is applied, the result of the analysis is B/C Ratios 0.89, which shows unprofitable. Therefore, it is a possible baseline that price of Lycium Chinese Miller is at least 16,800 won per kg with 3.00% IRR and B/C Ratio is 1.00. It could be profitable with about 21.75% income ratio when price of Lycium Chinese Miller is 16,800 won per kg.
