Recognizing a user's hand through intuitive touch-sensing technology, which doesn't require much help from older people, this content provides weather videos and temperature information that reflect current external environment. Alert notification sound and SMS service are provided in preparation for more critical user emergencies. This content enables users to feel emotional stability and respond quickly to emergencies.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior color characteristics of elderly housing facilities in Korea. For this purpose, a filed survey was conducted between October 16 and October 25, 2003, visiting 10 elderly housing facilities. A three step analysis of the facilities was involved. First, floor, walls, ceiling, base boards and doors in common spaces were examined for the color scheme using the 'Pantone for Fashion and Home Color Guide' for each room. Measured Pantone numbers were converted to RGB color using 'Chooser 3.0 of Pantone, Inc.' Finally, the conversions were recorded as Munsell numbers. The results are as follows. First, the brightness used in elderly housing facilities ranges from high value to low value while the chroma ranges from the middle chroma to low chroma. The warm colors of Y and YR are mainly used, followed by GY and R. Second, the colors used for elderly housing facilities are found inter-related. For example, the main color in the lobby is also used for corridor and used again in dining room, library, and treatment room. Third, in terms of the color scheme, it is best help the elderly, who generally have lower recognition capability, by highlighting the distinction and attention by using the dearly distinctive accent color for the transition space, edge of the hallways or in front of the door to the units and having different color for each floor. But in most facilities except one or two, this consideration is ignored. Fourth, there is difference in color selection between elderly housing with low and high rental value. Only one facility, the most high priced one, has aggressive color arrangement, and the others show very little consideration of the elderly's needs.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the planning characteristics of certain cases of elderly welfare housing (hitherto EWH), and analyze any problems by comparing this against the actual needs of potential residents. To this end, 38 distinct housing plans from twelve EWH built after 2005 were examined, and a survey on housing needs was taken by 198 people between 48 and 62 years of age. The results are as follows: Firstly, the most common size found among the 10 cases was 42-66 $m^2$, however larger sizes are becoming more frequent. The most popular response on the survey was one favoring smaller housing options. Secondly, the most common floor plan examined consisted of 1 bedroom + LDK and 2 bedroom + LDK. Likewise, the survey reflected that 1 or 2 bedroom housing was preferred. Thirdly, a floor plan composed of a smaller bedroom and LDK is commonly found in smaller floor plans of EWH. The survey reflected potential residents preferred this same style of floor plan, with a smaller bedroom and LDK set up. However, lower-income participants preferred a single, larger bedroom which also can serve as a living space, to go along with a kitchen/dining room (DK). Fourthly, 2 bedroom housing typically included a single bathroom, however the survey indicated that participants preferred a second bathroom to go along with a second bedroom. Consequently, the planning of elderly welfare housing is to a large extent meeting the demands of its potential residents, however house size and the planning of bathrooms have yet to meet these demands, especially with potential lower-income residents when it comes to housing size and space composition.
The purpose of this study is to present the design guidelines of residential unit for the elderly by investigating their needs and preferences. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies, percentage, and Chi-squared test with cross-tabulations. About 70% of the elderly respondents preferred more than 49.5$m^2$(15-pyung) for the size of residential unit and about 50% of them wanted to have bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room In the unit. Most elderly (72%) did not prefer to select interior finishes for their units by themselves. Surprisingly, the elderly did not want to bring their own furniture when relocating to the elderly housing, which was somewhat different result from previous studies. There were significant differences between preferred unit size and level of education, income, and living with or without spouse. Also, income and health status were the characteristics of elderly which made differences in preferred space composition.
