Development of Climate Change Education Program in High School Based on CLAMP Inquiry of Fossil Leaves (잎화석의 CLAMP 탐구를 통한 고등학교 기후변화 교육 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a STEAM program for teaching climate change through CLAMP (Climate-Leaf Analysis Multivariate Program) paleoclimate inquiry in connection with high school 'Integrated Science' subject. In order to do so, we analyzed the 2015 revised national curriculum and science textbook in terms of the PDIE instructional design model, and developed the teaching-learning materials for 10 class hours through expert panel discussion and pilot test. According to the STEAM class procedure, in the situation presentation stage, the fossil leaves were collected from the dicotyledon plants near school, and the LMA (Leaf Margin Analysis) climate inquiry activity. was presented as the learning goal. During the creative design stage, students were taught about geology and leaf fossils in the study region, and CLAMP input data (31 characteristics of morphotype and leaf architectural of fossil leaves) were given. In the emotional experience and new challenge stage, we collected leaf fossils for outdoor learning, explored paleoclimate with CLAMP method, and promoted climatic literacy in the process of discussing tendencies and causes of Cenozoic's climate change. The validity of the development program was assessed (CVI .84) as being suitable for development purpose in all items through the process of establishing reliability among expert panel. In order to apply the program to the high school, a pilot test was conducted to supplement the discrepancies and to review the suitability. The satisfaction rate of the participants was 4.48, and the program was complemented with their opinions. This study will enable high school students to have practical knowledge and reacting volition for climate change, and contribute to fostering students' climate literacy.

The Elementary and Middle School Students' Perceptions of Global Warming and Climate Change (초·중학생의 지구온난화와 기후변화에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary and middle school (grade 5 and 7) students' perceptions of global warming and climate change. A total of 239 students completed opened-form questionnaire consisting of cartoons regarding global warming and climate change. The results showed that are as follows. Elementary and middle school students had low level of perception of global warming and climate change. A majority of students rightly believed that the global warming is related to greenhouse gases, glacier, environmental pollution, etc. Also, Many students had scientific concepts about the cause of global warming while some of the students had misconceptions that destruction of the ozone layer will cause an global warming. We have found that some of the students of elementary and middle school had confused between the cause of global warming and ozone depletions.

Degree of the Contribution of Disaster and Safety Education as an Index of Climate Change Vulnerability (기후변화 취약성 평가지표로서 재난안전교육의 기여도 산정)

  • Climate change is one of the most important factors increasing a system's vulnerability. Therefore, various methods have been applied to evaluate the vulnerability to develop an appropriate adaptation policy to minimize the effects of climate change. On the other hand, it has barely been used to examine the suitability of the selected proxy variables to calculate the vulnerability. In this study, it was shown that the degree of disaster and safety education should be considered as one of the proxy variables in non-structural measures when the vulnerability is calculated using an expert survey. As a result, the degree of the contribution on the climate change vulnerability can be different according to the education target and the characteristics of various systems. The results might be useful for developing a climate change adaptation policy in a specific area.

Development of an Instrument for Measuring Action Competence on Climate Change within High School Students (고등학생 기후변화 대응 실천역량 검사도구의 개발)

  • This study aims to develop an instrument for measuring high school students' action competence on climate change (ACoCC). The instrument is defined as the construct comprised of seven factors and thirty-five items and takes approximately 15 minutes to fill out. A panel of experts and students' content validation were undertaken to modify the items. Five hundred and twenty-eight first and second graders in Korean high schools participated in the instrument survey. To assess the reliability and validity of ACoCC instrument, item analysis (mean, skewness, kurtosis, item-total correlation), internal consistency estimate, and confirmatory factor analysis were used. It was appropriate to use the 7-dimensional ACoCC instrument (knowledge about climate change, climate change sensibility, reflection, communication, integrated thinking, willingness, decision making), with 35 items for high school students. The following instrument was self-report given in the 5-point Likert scale (1=strongly disagree, 2=disagree, 3=neutral, 4=agree, 5=strongly agree). The internal consistency coefficient was shown as a whole was shown as 0.953, and the subscale's internal consistency coefficient ranged from 0.786 to 0.862.

Investigation on Enhancing Efficiency in International Cooperation for Climate Change Adaptation of Republic of Korea (우리나라의 기후변화적응 국제협력에 대한 고찰)

  • To cope with various issues in the aspect of climate change adaptation of UNFCCC, Korea began preparing a Five-year National Climate Change Adaptation Plan in 2010 to be implemented from 2011~2015, for the purposes of securing a concrete system to adapt to climate change. Compared with the policies and measurement tools of developed countries, Korea's climate change adaptation capabilities suffers from a number of limitations including insufficiencies of basic information, human resources for research on climate change, and technology in risk and vulnerability assessment. At the same time, Korea maintains superior information technology systems, and comparatively strong climate change adaptation technologies. Recently, with the establishment of the Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change as a specialized research organization in climate change adaptation, Korea has upgraded its ability to adapt to climate change and to provide support to other Asian countries which are vulnerable to climate change. In consideration of the close relation between climate change adaptation policy and technology development with the environmental industry, Korea's pursuit of cooperation and technical support for developing countries in the Asia region can be seen as the commencement of a long term investment for the nation's future. International cooperation on climate change adaptation between countries in the region can build a mutually complementary and integrated partnership in business, research, education, and other areas. Furthermore, Korea can also participate in the exploration of common issues as landmark projects that can attract global interest with developing countries.

Assessment of Climate Change Communication via Facebook Social Network in Vietnam Today (베트남의 Facebook 소셜 네트워크를 통한 기후변화 대응 평가)

  • Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Therefore, communication activities on climate change in Vietnam are focused with various media such as television, newspapers, radio, internet etc. In particular, Facebook social network is a potential media but less interested and developed. In this topic, Audience Insight tool of the Facebook social network and the online sociological survey method were conducted to assess the current status and effectiveness of climate change communication activities via Facebook in Vietnam today. Vietnam ranks seventh in the world with 58 million users. However, the number of climate change communication fanpages has only about 15 fanpages with the largest number of followings is 94,721 persons. Among of the 10 most contented Facebook users in Vietnam today, there is no fanpage related to climate change. The results of research and evaluation two fanpages of climate change communication that are the most and most frequent followers in Vietnam showed that climate change communication via Facebook in Vietnam is not as effective as expected. At the same time, online survey results also pointed out the causes of the above problems. This is the scientific basis for management agencies to find the solutions to promote the strength of Facebook social network in climate change communication in the future.

A Study on the Curriculum Development for Climate Change and Cultural Heritage (기후변화대응을 위한 문화유산 교육과정 개발 방안 연구)

  • This study aims to develop a cultural heritage curriculum for climate change and present educational directions for cultural heritage and climate change impact in the future. In this study, the role and necessity of cultural heritage education for climate change were first discussed based on previous studies on climate change and cultural heritage. Next, the current status analysis of educational cases related to climate change and cultural heritage was conducted based on educational manuals, curriculum, and heritage competency systems associated with climate change. Finally, we propose a plan to develop a curriculum to cope with climate change and cultural heritage for graduate students in higher education institutions based on the four components of developing a curriculum. In future studies, we intend to propose guidelines for designing educational manuals and specific curricula for each educational target to cope with the climate change of cultural heritage presented in this study.

  • 가뭄은 사회기반시설, 인적 자본 등과 같은 자산에 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않으나 물을 중요한 투입재로 사용하는 농업부문에 피해가 집중된다. 가뭄 재해는 준비와 대응에 따라 피해에 큰 차이가 크기 때문에 다른 재해와는 달리 강도뿐만 아니라 지속기간을 고려해야 한다. 효과적인 가뭄 위험 관리를 위해서는 가뭄의 특징과 가뭄 준비 및 대응 수단에 따른 환경 및 경제적 영향을 평가할 수 있는 모형 구축과 다양한 농업자원을 동시적으로 연계 평가하여 지속가능성을 판단할 수 있는 기술 개발이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기후변화 등의 외부요인을 반영한 물-에너지-식량 (Water-Energy-Food, WEF) 넥서스 기반 농업 가뭄 평가 플랫폼 설계를 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해 물-에너지-식량 넥서스 연계 해석 고도화 기술을 개발하고, 생물-물리학적 모델 및 경제학적 모델 연계형 기후-토양-물-에너지-식량 넥서스 (CS-WEF NEXUS) 플랫폼을 구축하여, 최종적으로 기후변화 및 농업부문 가뭄 준비 및 대응 수단의 영향 평가를 바탕으로 한 의사결정 지원 도구를 제시하는 것이 최종 목표이다. 본 연구에서 구축된 플랫폼은 넥서스 연계 해석을 통해 농업 가뭄 대응을 위한 식량 및 에너지 안보 정책에도 미칠 수 있는 영향을 분석할 수 있으며, 다양한 식량-물-에너지 정책들이 타 요소들에 미치는 영향을 쉽게 평가할 수 있다는 점에서 정책적 의사결정 지원 시스템으로서 활용도가 높을 것으로 예상한다.

  • 언론에 지구온난화와 관련된 기후변화에 대한 글이 실리기도 한다. 전문가의 조언을 포함한 기후 관련 기사는 일상에서 기후와 무관하게 살아가는 일반인에게도 지적 자극을 불러일으키는 긍정적인 구실을 한다. 그러나 이들 기사에 담긴 내용은 물론 그 내용을 전달하는 용어가 정확하게 구사되었는지를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 본 고에서는 최근 이슈화한 '우리나라의 아열대화'를 계기로 기존의 기수구분에 대하여 고찰하고 우리나라 실정에 알맞은 기후구분의 방법과 내용에 대해 논의하고자 한다. (중략)

한국의 기후학 반세기:회고와 전망

  • 한국의 기후학 연구성과는 1958년 발표된 이후 약간의 기복은 있었으나 꾸준히 발 전하여 왔다. 연구성과를 하부 분야별로 보면 기후학 일반(43.5%)이 가장 많았고, 종관기후 학(34.7%), 기후변화(13.0%) 그리고 응용기후학(8.8%)으로 구성되어 있으나 근래에는 응용 기후학 분야에 대한 연구가 서서히 증가하고 있다. 1970년대 이전에는 주로 지상 기후요소 간의 기상자료를 사용하여 상관관계 출현빈도.시계열분석 등으로 전국 규모의 기후특성을 규명한 데 반하여 최근에는 시계열분석과 더불어 군집.주성분.인자분석 등 다변량 분석기 법 등의 통계기법이 많이 활용되고 있다. 초기에는 지상기상자료를 주로 연구에 사용하였는 데 점차 고층기상자료와 인공위성자료를 활용하면서 국지기후 연구와 더불어 기후예측 모델 의 구축단계까지 발달하였다. 그러나 한국기후학이 당면한 문제는 인적자원의 절대적인 빈 곤과 더불어 인접분야에 비하여 연구환경이 열악한 것이다. 즉, 대학에서는 비전공자에 의한 기후학 교육이 빈번하고, 국지기후 연구의 경우는 실측을 요하기도 하는데 자료의 생성 및 분석에 필요한 장비가 절대적으로 부족하다. 따라서 한국의 기후학의 발전을 도모하려면 기 후학자의 배출이 급선무이고, 기후학자는 물론, 대학 및 연구소간의 연구 및 자료 교류 등의 상호협조가 요청된다.
