Comics are a genre that convey meaning through compositional arrangements of dialogue and images as well as through the flow of panels across a page. Communicating that meaning to readers through a combination of language and visual lexicons is the essential process of drawing comics, a process that in itself is significant. The semiotics of comics is a field of scholarship grounded in the broader discipline of semiotic theory in which all the components of comics, both visual and verbal, are the subject of study and research. By adopting a semiotic approach we are able to objectively analyze and understand the symbolic, social and ideological meanings embedded in the signs and sign processes expressed in comics. The fundamental pedagogical mission of teaching comics is to cultivate human nature through the study of theory as well as through the production and completion of original works that explore new modes of expression. To go further, interpreting those embedded meanings in the context of comics fosters effective and creative skills of expression that go beyond a mere fascination for the genre itself. In short, because the semiotic approach to understanding visual communication is the essence teaching comics, we can expect that the act of reading and creating comics plays a significant role in understanding visual communication.

Semiotic studies in mathematical education have been based on Saussure, Peirce, and Frege and many prior researches have explored the concepts in a perspective of semiotics. However, the relationship among semiotical elements and the formation and the evolution of a conception are still ambiguous and veiled in many aspects. This thesis is intended to show how a conception was formed and evolved by expression, which is an element of semiotics. In this process, I sought to partially illuminate the relationship among expressions, concepts, and objects.

In this paper, study on organization factors and algorithm of semiotics in Animation text within Roland Gerard Barthes's Structurism semiotics theory. It is possible through this approach that we can analyse the effective mechanism which delivers messages(or text) of animation, instead of plain analysis of classical semiotics. and then It will be able to keep watch on the blind viewpoint of the pure aesthetics which does not consider a social duty. In the expression of single sentence by the view of Barthes's semiotics theory, the text of animation is 'one sign has duplex role'. when it is explained another, the animation of mass media is special processing that makes conception and significance. in other words, the order of domination likely natural rule assimilate mass people to itself by the animation of mass media

Algebraic signs are important on learning and problem solving of algebra. This study investigated the contents of letters and expressions in textbooks by syntactics, semantics and pragmatics, and considered the introduction and extension processes of algebraic signs didactically. We also categorized the signs, and looked into textbook problems in view of semiotic. The result is that textbook is constructed in syntactics and semantics. Finally, the assessment of 7th grade students' competence in syntactics, semantics, syntactics+- semantics, pragmatics, and problem solving shows that students' ability in syntactics and pragmatics Is a predictive variable for algebraic problem solving.

Animation is the aggregate of signs based on narrative. Algirdas Julien Greimas made structuralist frame and analyzed the meaning with it. Greimas's semiotics among the animated characters appearing in the conflict structure is suitable for the analysis and figure out the structure and meaning of the conflict which is hidden. Because Greimas Semiotic Square is suitable for apprehending meaning structure, it help for us to identify between characters and meaning that from character. Actantial Model help to apprehend power relations in structure between characters by axis of desire. This study search Greimas's semiotics and based on this analyse animation, . Also this study analyse conflicts between protagonist and antagonist with Greimas Semiotic Square after analysing narrative of like Vladimir Proof's folktale analysis. Unlike the protagonist's internal conflict, the antagonist's internal conflict moves the audience's emotions. Finally, this study analyse animation in the synchronic structure with the Actantial Model.

This study explores the relationship between images and texts through advertising production using images and texts, and analyzes the student works with the semiotics of Roland Barth. Since Barth emphasized the interpreter's interpretation rather than the producer's intention in his work, he interpreted the work as a receiver. It was analyzed in terms of socio-cultural meaning of what students produced in the works. A total of 64 classes were held for the first two classes in D high school. The results of analyzing students' works after the advertisement production class are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing Barth 's myth structure model, advertisement image and text are symbols and have meaning. Second, advertising image and text complement each other and have the characteristic of interrelationship that constitutes meaning. Third, By attracting the socio-cultural implications inherent in the students' advertising, their values and interests could be discovered.

In 1999, the French semiotician Jacques Fontanille published his work on discourse semiotics as an attempt to overcome the limitations of structuralism. Discourse semiotics has expanded the realm of semiotics by taking a phenomenological approach that examines the structure of consciousness. Phenomenology pays special attention to the operation of human consciousness, which, instead of staying put, moves from one place to another-unbeknownst to its agent. This paper examines "Bulls" through a phenomenological approach as the short story depicts the stream of consciousness that unfolds within the inner world of Pau, the young male protagonist. The rhetorical approach to literary analysis works at the level of the speech act and directly relates to speech act theory. In rhetorics, figures and tropes are dominated by speech acts. Whereas conventional rhetorical analysis lacks a kinetic perspective as it revolves around flat semantic inspections, the discourse semiotics approach applied in this paper allows for an indepth multidimensional analysis where the analyses of ${\acute{e}}nonc{\acute{e}}$ and ${\acute{e}}nonciation$ complement each other. Presenting a peasant movement to the reader through the eyes of the young male protagonist Pau, "Bulls" is considered a significant literary feat in the history of Korea's New Literature as the work is highly regarded for its impressive depiction of a communal movement. This paper reinterprets and reevaluates the story under a new light, mainly through a rhetorical approach and a phenomenological approach that hinges on discourse semiotics.

About the phenomenon of being imaged of everything, the scholars of the humanities who had studied on the simple reason structure in a text have been in a big agony how accept it. Especially, semiologists have studied about this for a long time and the points at issues of Saussure, Peirce as well as Umbeto Eco are more outstanding. Being based upon his philosophic interesting from medieval esthetics to modern semiotics, Eco was very concerned about the field of general esthetics and poputar arts like television and cartoons. He connected the mutual open-relations between 'signifier' and 'signified' debated in Semiotics with the open and vague modern arts and regarding it as a deviation from the custom, intensively studied the film-media. Saussure is a representative figure of semiotics and explained Sign and the character of semiotics as the division into two parts such as signifier/ signified, form/ substance, langue/ parole, synchrony/ diachrony. The triadic semiotics (the theory that Sign is composed of the triadic structure like sign, referent and interpretant) of Peirce put the new item- 'interpretant' in sign and referent to connect them and open the possibility to introduce time in to the Sign. In this paper, I try to analyze a cartoon film in the semiotic structure with the systemic, reasonable and logical approach and analysis as as possible. While the images shown through a film were depended on the romantic and impressional judge in the past, due to semiotics, it' s quite possible to correlate the procedure of symbolization to social coherence so that we analyze the incredible power of images to suck audiences with the systemetic Sign. I accept all ot film-images including a cartoon film as not the simple esthetic arts but a social custom and system, want to serve as a aid to properly understand world and humanbeings and prevent the film-image from being mystic. A cartoon and a cartoon film which were begun with the link of a text and an illustration give shape to all of images such as materials, places and even thoughts with a cartoon icon existed in only a cartoon. A cartoon and a cartoon film simply and exquistely conceptualize the complex and vague attribute of an organic creature and extend them infinetly beyond language. However, it can be exploited as a mysticism to temptate the general public and a faking material. In addition to that, it can distort our world-knowledge engaging a political power and the massive power of mass media. In this paper, being based on semiotics to approach a cartoon film in a scientific and organic system, I conclude that a non-linguistic cartoon expression is entangled with the manifold signs and implies the supplementary meanings just like a regular linguistic expression. It remarks that the iconic images of a cartoon film are composed of the social codes and can be analyzed on grounds of a linguistic system.

A mathematics pre-service teacher T analyzed American mathematics textbooks and developed his teaching material for instruction. This study analyzed his thinking processes and results in the view of semiotics. If we regard the textbook as a sign and the unitary conversion that students should learn as an object of the sign, the interpretant of the sign is the pre-service teacher's analysis, which is conducted at the aspects of a subject matter knowledge and student understanding. T interpreted the textbook versatilely in terms of his knowledges and experiences. He developed his teaching materials as diagrams, did the diagrammatic thinking and became to have the hypostatic abstraction. This study is significant because it used semiotics for explaining T's thinking process.

A study of advertising semiotics is very important area based on the whole area of Film Industry and the study of semiotics has been continuously studied in the TV advertising field. If we only insist on the existing research area and expression techniques without considering new expression techniques resulted in consuming class and technological development, the scientific approach and analysis of advertising semiotics should be confronted by the limitation. so the purpose of this thesis is to analyze semicomical approaching method and analysis in TV advertising field through the meaning of advertisement and the technique of TV advertisements and show the necessity of study and production for the effective approach in both sides of commerce and art.
