A new algorithm is presented which efficiently reports minimum width/space violation in a geometric mask pattern. The proposed algorithm solves a sequence of range search problems by employing a plane sweep method. The algorithm runs in O(n log n) time, where n is the number of edges in a mask pattern. Since a lower bound in time conplexity for reporting all minimum width/space violations is ${\Omega}$ (n log n), this algorithm is theoretically optimal within a constant multiplicaive factor. It requires O($n^{0.5}$) space which is very efficient in practice. Moreover, this algorithm, we believe, is easy to implement and practically fast (116.7 seconds for a rectilinear region with 250000 vertices ar VAX 8650.)
This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.
Recently, types of mobile services are ever-growing with technological advances, such as CDMA 2000, 256 Color LCD, 16 channel sound chip set and easy internet access. However, manual system that is supposed to support users for finding features and functions doesn't help users most of the cases since users are moving. Therefore, mobile sonics needs new concept for manual system that can support users while they are in use In this research report, new concept for interactive manual system is suggested. Then a guideline for interactive manual system is developed as a result from three empirical studies. First, ten information visualization methods used for describing functions are positioned on user's perception map. Secondly, user behavior pattern of getting required information from written manual was analyzed. Finally, visual cue system was selected as one of options for developing interactive manual system and a guideline was developed based on these research results.

In typical video streaming services such as MPEG encoded video, the transmission data sizes change depending on the frame types and the required bandwidth for QoS support also changes as time passes. Accordingly, in video streaming services using the Internet it could happen that the video services stop occasionally due to instantaneous deficiencies of the required bandwidth under unexpected congestion even if the highest priority is allocated to the service by network administration. In this paper, we investigate several methods for bandwidth allocation and traffic engineering to support MPEG video traffic and propose a new method to reduce the transmission delay and enhance the throughput, there by provisioning the QoS requirements. In the proposed scheme, LSPs are established based on temporal variation patterns of the Internet traffic and the CQ_LLQ policing scheme is applied for traffic shaping at the ingress routers. Finally we verified the performance of the proposed scheme via computer simulations using OPNET.
We applied recursive numerical computation to create a basic design of a camera optical module for mobile phones. To enhance the resolution performance for a 38-degree field of view, we constructed the optical system with six non-spherical lenses. However, to increase its applicability to a compact mobile phone, we limited the overall length to 5 mm in the design. Using the data obtained from the basic design, we proceeded with optimization design using the Zemax design tool. The optimized optical system achieved a resolution performance with a modulation transfer function value of more than 19% for a 280 lines/mm pattern and image distortion within 1.0% for all wavelength rays. In this paper, we verify the feasibility of using recursive numerical computation for the basic design of a compact mobile phone camera.

In this paper, we propose a new camera calibration method for rotating multi-view cameras to generate image-based panoramic 3D Virtual Environment. Since calibration accuracy worsens with an increase in distance between camera and calibration pattern, conventional camera calibration algorithms are not proper for panoramic 3D VE generation. To remedy the problem, a geometric relationship among all lenses of a multi-view camera is used for intra-camera calibration. Another geometric relationship among multiple cameras is used for inter-camera calibration. First camera parameters for all lenses of each multi-view camera we obtained by applying Tsai's algorithm. In intra-camera calibration, the extrinsic parameters are compensated by iteratively reducing discrepancy between estimated and actual distances. Estimated distances are calculated using extrinsic parameters for every lens. Inter-camera calibration arranges multiple cameras in a geometric relationship. It exploits Iterative Closet Point (ICP) algorithm using back-projected 3D point clouds. Finally, by repeatedly applying intra/inter-camera calibration to all lenses of rotating multi-view cameras, we can obtain improved extrinsic parameters at every rotated position for a middle-range distance. Consequently, the proposed method can be applied to stitching of 3D point cloud for panoramic 3D VE generation. Moreover, it may be adopted in various 3D AR applications.

This study was aimed to make GIS oiling thematic maps and analyze temporal oiling variation patterns for two months after 'Hebei Spirit' oil spill accident in December 7, 2007 using GIS and oiling status surveyed data. As a basic work for making of oiling thematic maps, geometric corrections were performed with IKONOS images using ground control points data. These corrected images were used to make detailed coastline from digital charts, and then spatial unit of coastline were defined using classified coastline types. And to know the representative parameters which reflect oiling situation, relationship between oiling status parameters extracted from four times oiling assessment reports and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) data (December 2007 and January 2008) monitored by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI). Using these representative oiling status parameters pollution value were calculated, and they were keyed into spatial unit of coastline as attributive value. GIS oiling status thematic maps made with coastline containing pollution value showed the initial two month's situations somewhat well. Also, to analyze temporal variation pattern of coastline types, about 13.4km length coastline around Malripo beach was defined as detailed study area where is the common spatial zone surveyed oiling status by each organizations. Based on this study results, it could be possible to provide oiling status maps quickly and to support decision making for oiling control action and scientific pollution monitoring.

This paper addresses an image fingerprinting scheme for the print-to-capture model performed by a photo printer and digital camera. When capturing an image by a digital camera, various kinds of distortions such as noise, geometrical distortions, and lens distortions are applied slightly and simultaneously. In this paper, we consider several steps to extract fingerprints from the distorted image in print-and capture scenario. To embed ID into an image as a fingerprint, multi-bits embedding is applied. We embed 64 bits ID information as a fingerprint into spatial domain of color images. In order to restore a captured image from distortions a noise reduction filter is performed and a rectilinear tiling pattern is used as a template. To make the template a multi-bits fingerprint is embedded repeatedly like a tiling pattern into the spatial domain of the image. We show that the extracting is successful from the image captured by a digital camera through the experiment.

Development is given for an analytical approach that can investigate parameters characterizing road network geometry. A grid transportation network having a hierarchy structure is considered on a homogeneous and isotropic urban plane in which trip origins and destinations are uniformly dispersed and the trip length distribution is independent of the location of the origin. The object is to find the optimal spacings between urban arterials so as to minimize the sum of travel and construction costs, subject to the hypothesis that a trip assignment follows the Wardrop's first principle. The proposed approach is not the genera method for determining an efficient network layout, but can be used as basic concept for generating and evaluating urban road network alternatives. Given an O-D table and cost estimates the approach is able to outline at least in a qualitative sense the optimal spacings of urban arterial roads.
Many case histories of re-liquefaction phenomena seem to support the idea that sand deposits, if they once have been liquefied, could be reliquefied again by a subsequent earthquake even though the earthquake is smaller than the previous one. The magnitude of the strains induced in the initial liquefaction has a significant influence on the resistance of the sample to re-liquefaction. The deposits undergoing liquefaction experience large shear strain during liquefaction. And this previous strain changes the microstructure into highly anisotropic structure such as columnlike structure and connected voids. This type of anisotropy is so unstable that it can reduce re-liquefaction resistance. It is blown that the extent of anisotropic structural change depends on the gradation characteristics of ground. The purpose of this study is to estimate the correlation between the gradation characteristics of the sand and the ratio of re-liquefaction resistance to liquefaction resistance. In this study, 1-g shaking table tests were carried out on five different kinds of sands. During the tests the values of excess pore pressure at various depths and surface settlements were measured. Re-liquefaction resistances were not affected by the initial void ratio and the effective confining pressures, and the deposits of all test sands which had once been liquefied were reliquefied in the cyclic loading number below 1 to 1.5. The ratio of re-liquefaction resistance to liquefaction resistance linearly decreased as $D_{10}/C_u$ increased, and was constant as about 0.2 above the value of $D_{10}/C_u$, 0.15 mm.
