Many companies are executing big data analysis and utilization projects to legitimize the development of new business areas or conversion of management or technical strategies. In Korea and abroad, however, such projects are failing because they are not completed within specified deadlines, which is not unrelated to the current situation in which the knowledge base for big data project risk management from an engineering perspective is grossly lacking. As such, the current study analyzes the risk factors of big data implementation and utilization projects, in addition to finding risk factors that are highly important. To achieve this end, the study extracts project risk factors via literature review, after which they are grouped using affinity methodology and sifted through expert surveys. The deduced risk factors are structuralize using factor analysis to develop a table that categorizes various types of big data project risk factors. The current study is significant that in it provides a basis for developing basic control indicators related to risk identification, risk assessment, and risk analysis. The findings from the study contribute greatly to the success of big data projects, by providing theoretical basis regarding efficient big data project risk management.

It is a time honored value proposition that in rapidly changing business environment, only proactive and active companies will survive. Enterprise resource planning(ERP) system has been a competitive necessity. However, small and medium companies in Korea still need practical guidelines regarding on successful ERP implementation, especially in process issue identification and business goal setting. This case study investigates how Secui.com as an information security company founded in 2000 implemented an ERP system from the strategic perspective. Also it proposes the guidelines of how to establish an information system infrastructure and realize the benefits of IS-based management by ERP implementation.

Recently, overseas construction projects have been increasing in the Middle East and Southeast Asia regions. These projects require various licenses and technologies for the manufacturing and handling processes. Additionally, the efficiency of the entire process management life cycle determines the success or failure of the business. Nonetheless, there exist various risks involved in the whole life cycle process due to a lack of experience and knowledge of management techniques. The objective of this paper is to analyze the business process of a LNG plant throughout the pre-construction and procurement phases, and to identify the knowledge and information needed for the development of the KMS. The study also plans to build a comprehensive knowledge management system throughout the whole life cycle as its final objective.

As the competition between companies are deepened, the number of companies adopting six sigma principles, which is one of the innovative management strategies, are increasing. According to this trend, the changes in both strategies and methodologies of six sigma are continuous. However, the evaluations and the management principles included in the process after the six sigma applications are insufficient, and the cooperation between the parties in the company is also not enough because the application process of six sigma is too complex and not efficient. In order to solve this problem, a research for developing the methodology which can learn about and do six sigma applications is so necessary, specifically for expanding the six sigma applications and introducing the participation of all company members. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to develop and present more efficient Six Sigma applied process by reducing the existing unnecessary steps in improvement one, by applying the examination method of wasteful elements on the potential factors, through analyzing the Six Sigma DMAIC applied case in the construction industry. The result of those application showed that the detection of potential factors using wasting elements was possible in measurement step and that it was possible for the improved process with reduced steps compared to existing process while to remain the outcomes. It is considered that the performance rate of Six Sigma project will be improved significantly because the reduction in the improvement step does not affect the improvement effect within the whole Six Sigma project.

Various risk factors are known to be the nature of construction project execution process. These factors lead to potential claims, dispute mediation, arbitration, and litigation which can result in huge loss of money and time. Therefore, it is necessary for construction companies in Korea to improve overall project management capability through the evaluation before entering into the overseas construction market. Also, after examination of the claim and dispute caused by construction project risks, a substantial degree of influence and active preparation for the claim and dispute management should be confirmed via the effect analysis of the each factors. Main claim causes were derived through claim and dispute cases involved with domestic construction projects. As a prediction result of the main claim, 16.1% of the construction change claim, 5.7% of the bad faith claim and 2.7% for the construction delay claim were found to be the portion of the total construction cost. As a result of this analysis, risk management methodology was suggested to improve a project management capability for domestic construction companies through analysis result of the main factors of construction claims.

본 연구에서는 경영자 소유지분과 자본적 투자지출의 관계를 이론과 실증분석의 양 차원에서 분석하였다. 우선 이론적인 분석에서는 경영자가 기업가치 극대화뿐만 아니라 규모극대화를 동시에 추구할 때, 기업의 자발적 투자지출은 경영자 소유지분의 함수라는 점을 보였다. 특히 2차효용함수의 가정하에서 자본적 투자지출과 경영자 소유지분의 관계는 경영자의 소유지분과 위험회피도, 확실성 등가에 의한 프로젝트의 순기대현금 흐름 수준에 따라 달라지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자본적 투자지출은 경영자의 효용함수 행태에 따라 경영자 소유지분이 낮은 수준에서는 소유지분의 감소함수이나 높은 수준에서는 증가함수로 반전되는 구조적인 전환점이 존재한다는 점을 밝혔다. 한편 90-95년 중 우리나라 상장 제조업의 자료를 바탕으로 규모극대화 기업과 규모비극대화 기업에 대하여 경영자 소유지분과 자본적 투자지출의 관계를 비교한 결과, 규모극대화 기업에서 경영자 지분이 약 30%인 구조적인 전환점을 중심으로 그 이전에서는 경영자 지분의 증가에 따라 자본적 투자지출이 감소하나 그 이후에는 증가함수로 단전되는 것으로 나타나 이론의 내용을 지지하였다. 그러므로 본 연구의 결과는 기존의 연구에서와는 달리 안주가설(entrenchment hypothesis)에 의하지 않더라도 경영자의 효용함수의 행태에 따라 일정한 경영자 소유지분 이상에서는 가치비극대화 행위가 지배할 있다는 점을 보여주고 있다.

Crowdfunding has become more popular than angel funding for fundraising by venture companies. Identification of success factors may be useful for fundraisers and investors to make decisions related to crowdfunding projects and predict a priori whether they will be successful or not. Recent studies have suggested several numeric factors, such as project goals and the number of associated SNS, studying how these affect the success of crowdfunding campaigns. However, prediction of the success of crowdfunding campaigns via non-numeric and unstructured data is not yet possible, especially through analysis of structural characteristics of documents introducing projects in need of funding. Analysis of these documents is promising because they are open and inexpensive to obtain. We propose a novel method to predict the success of a crowdfunding project based on the introductory text. To test the performance of the proposed method, in our study, texts related to 1,980 actual crowdfunding projects were collected and empirically analyzed. From the text data set, the following details about the projects were collected: category, number of replies, funding goal, fundraising method, reward, number of SNS followers, number of images and videos, and miscellaneous numeric data. These factors were identified as significant input features to be used in classification algorithms. The results suggest that the proposed method outperforms other recently proposed, non-text-based methods in terms of accuracy, F-score, and elapsed time.

Selection of profitable research and development (R&D) projects is one of the major factors affecting sustained growth of firms and countries. This paper analyze what influences the knowledge on the business model exerted on selection of a R&D project. A business model converts the technology value to the customer value, and comprehensively describes the target customers for commercializing a new technology, core values, behaviors within organizations, resources, and external partners. Thus, understanding a business model would make R&D project evaluators place the feasibility and profitability of the business above the merits of the proposed technology in evaluating the technology development. To verify this hypothesis, we had 78 R&D project evaluators acquire the knowledge on the business model and measured how their criteria for R&D project selection have changed using the AHP method. The results shows that feasibility and profitability are more important than the merit of proposed technology, especially capability of company and business development are more important than the levels of technology innovation.

The purposes of this dissertation are to identify various factors affecting the outcomes of feasibility analysis and investment decision makings of new IT project plans and empirically analysis the relationships among them. 9 variables which have been drawn from prior studies and industry practices are the amount of the necessary resource such as development budget and time, the expect financial benefits, the degree of alignments between IT projects and the business strategy, the estimated risk, and the investment priority as the dependent variable. Data from 125 IT projects of K bank, the leading commercial bank in Korea, have been collected and Regression Analysis and ANOVA have been performed. As results, 5 out of 8 hypothesis have been accepted partially or totally.

Utilizing cross-functional project teams is an attractive organizing option, particularly in solving complex and innovative problems that require diverse sources of information, knowledge, and expertise brought by individuals from different functional backgrounds. This study is aiming at finding the group dynamics surrounding and inside the teams for the better understand what makes cross-functional project teams effective. Adopting variables from small group research and organizational context research, I extract critical antecedents, mediator, and team-coaching that lead to team performance. Data from 32 cross-functional project teams consisting of 214 individual respondents are analyzed through regression analyses for hypotheses testing. Results of the analyses demonstrate that the team process and team performance are significantly affected by the composition of competence in team and team compensation. Also I find that team-coaching as a leadership behavior has influence on team process and team performance. Some implications, future research directions, and limitations are discussed.
