  • This study analyzes the moderating effects of the self-esteem on the life satisfaction of 2,040 middle school senior students using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2012 Data (KCYPS 2012) provided by the National Youth Policy Institute. The path analysis of how environmental characteristics, such as parents, friends, and school, affect life satisfaction, is based on four groups of self-esteem, categorized by positive and negative self-evaluation levels. The analysis suggests that groups with higher levels of positive self-evaluation have closer relevance in more paths than other groups. Furthermore, in groups with higher levels of negative self-evaluation, negative effects on life satisfaction are offset by positive self-evaluation. These results suggest research associated with the mental health of adolescents and their self-esteem should be performed according to two separate levels of self-esteem: positive self-evaluation and negative self-evaluation. Since low levels of negative self-evaluation doesn't necessarily guarantee high levels of positive self-evaluation, counseling for adolescents needs to have different tracks, addressing positive and negative self-evaluation levels.

  • Recently, consumers are showing interest in social and environmental issues. In addition, consumers are increasingly participating in meaning-out that give meaning to their consumption and express moral values. However, unlike the spread of meaning-out, existing studies are lacking. This study approaches meaning out, which has become a recent issue, from an experiential point of view, and aims to study how the experiential characteristics of meaning out affect psychological effects such as improvement of self-esteem and subjective well-being. First, we hypothesized that the experience of meaning out(feel, think, act, relate) had an effect on subjective well-being through improvement of self-esteem. We tested the hypothesis on a total of 197 data using the structural equation model. As a result, it was found that three experiences excluding 'feel' have a positive effect on the improvement of self-esteem, and and improved self-esteem had a positive effect on improving subjective well-being. This study expands existing studies and provides practical implications by confirming that meaning out has a positive psychological effect.

  • The main purpose of this study is to study the effect of a program to improve self-esteem and positive thinking in middle-aged women using Buddha Ball meditation. In order to achieve this research purpose, the subject of this study was middle-aged female Buddhists at Temple H in Busan who were interested in 'Buddha Ball'. For the analysis method, empirical analysis was performed using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design of this study. The main research results are as follows. First, as a result of examining the effect of Buddha Ball meditation on the quality of life, it could be seen that the overall quality of life had a significant positive (+) effect on the experimental group. Second, as a result of examining the effect of Buddha Ball meditation on self-esteem, it could be seen that self-esteem had a significant positive (+) effect on the experimental group. Third, as a result of examining the effect of Buddha Ball meditation on positive thinking, it could be seen that the entire positive thinking had a significant positive (+) effect on the experimental group. Based on these research results, the main conclusion was that the Buddha Ball, a healing meditation tool using the sound wave energy, had a positive effect on the self-esteem and quality of life of middle-aged women Buddhists. Accordingly, it is judged that the Buddha Ball meditation program has a positive use value for middle-aged women who are experiencing more complex psychological difficulties due to individual, family, and social environmental conditions. In addition, by preparing a system that can actively utilize the Buddha Ball meditation program educationally and politically, the implications of the justification and necessity of using it to improve the self-esteem, positive thinking and quality of life of middle-aged women were presented.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between family social capital and self-esteem of adolescents. Five waves of panel data from the Korea Youth Panel Survey were employed for this research. Korean Adolescents Policy Research Institute collected the first wave data in 2004 from elementary school children in 4th grade. Autoregressive cross-lagged modeling was performed to analysis the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between family social capital and self-esteem. The major findings were as follows. First, stability coefficient of family social capital and self-esteem showed that both variables were significantly stable over time. Secondly family social capital(t) had statistically significant effect on self-esteem(t+1), whereas self-esteem did not predict family social capital at a statistically significant level. These findings suggest that family social capital and self-esteem is stable overtime, and that obtaining family social capital and establishing positive self-esteem is important during this period in childhood. In addition, the results show that family social capital affects self-esteem, which highlights the importance of family social capital accumulation on the development of adolescent self-esteem.

  • This study was to identify the factors influencing the interpersonal competence in nursing students. Data collection was conducted on 167 university students from November to December 2019. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression using the JAMOVI program. As a result of the study, the interpersonal competence of the subjects was different according to gender, personality, life satisfaction and weight satisfaction, and there was a positive correlation between psychological well-being and self-esteem. Factors affecting interpersonal competence include positive personality groups (β=.31, p=.027), psychological well-being (β=.21, p=.022) and self-esteem (β=.24,) p=.007), and these variables accounted for 25.2% of interpersonal competence. Therefore, in order to improve the interpersonal competence of university students, it is necessary to develop a program that considers their psychological well-being and self-esteem.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of violence experience and self-esteem experienced in social scenes such as work and school on suicidal thoughts. For this purpose, I used the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family(2017)'s data of the current situation of social violence victims. To this end, descriptive statistics, correlation, and hierarchical binary logistic regression analysis were performed. The findings of this study are as follows: The experience of social violence among North Korean refugee women had a positive effect on suicidal thoughts, and self-esteem had a negative effect on suicide-related features. This means that if you have experienced social violence, you are more likely to have suicidal thinking, and the higher your self-esteem is, the less likely your suicidal thinking is. Based upon the results of this study, practical intervention measures were proposed to prevent social violence, and to improve physical/mental health and self-esteem of North Korean refugee women.
