  • The present study purposed to survey dental hygiene students who will play important roles in guidance and to utilize the data as basic information for setting the direction of dental hygienists' efficient guidance for antismoking and developing antismoking education programs. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 400 students at the Department of Dental Hygiene in Daejeon, Jollabuk-do and Jollanam-do during the period from May 19 to June 14 in 2008, and drew conclusions as follows: As to correlations among self-efficacy, smoking knowledge, and perception on guidance for antismoking, positive correlation was observed between self-efficacy and smoking knowledge (r=0.102), between self-efficacy and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.272), and between smoking knowledge and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.352). As to factors affecting perception on guidance for antismoking, the effect was high in order of perception on smoking, smoking knowledge, and self-efficacy. That is, perception on guidance for antismoking was more positive in those who thought that smoking must not be allowed, those with high smoking knowledge, and those with high self-efficacy. For dental hygienists' clinical activities for efficient prevention of smoking and guidance for antismoking, it is necessary to develop curriculums containing various practical contents.

  • Because of space constraints of the ship, accessibility to supporting system for nonsmoking is poor in seafarers' group. This study was performed to find the smoking status, second-hand smoking status and factors related to smoking habit of Korean seafarers. So, we examined the rate of smoking and secondhand smoking, and knowledge about smoking, attitude for smoking behavior, smoking cessation intention and working environment related to smoking of 155 seafarers. Their smoking rate was 32.3% and secondhand smoke rate was very high by 86.5%. Their working place equipped a separate smoking room, but most of them had been smoked in where they were stayed. and we found the inadequate ventilation facility in 42.6%. Only 21.9% had a experience of education for smoking cessation. From the study Attitude for smoking behavior was negative and smoking knowledge was high. 90% of them tried to stop to smoke, but intention of smoking cessation was low. We need to motivate seafarers and increase their smoking cessation intention by regular education in available ways. From the study, we purpose that government will realign regulations related to ventilation facility and appointed smoking area on the board to prevent seondhand smoke, and the policy need to possess the regular survey of smoking status and customized smoking cessation education for seafarers.

  • This study was performed to estimate the quantity of the effects of tobacco price raise on the smoking rate, and the smoking attributable deaths in Korea. The data were collected by questionnaire survey from 538 male of male workers. The questionnaire contained items on age, sex, living place, status of education, smoking history, the intention to quit smoking when the tobacco price be raised. The questionnaire, were distributed to the offices of enterprises, hospitals, research centers, and public agencies and then collected. Data were analyzed by using the age specific smoking rate, relative risks of eight major smoking related diseases, vital statistics, and the population attributable risk of deaths of smoking males. On the other hand, the impact of the tobacco price raise on the population attributable risk of death due to smoking in Korea was estimated by applying the presumed smoking rate after the price raise. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The smoking rate of male white color workers in large cities was 59.5%. 2. The proportion of male smokers who has the intention to quit smoking when the tobacco price be raised was 61.5%. 3. The proportion of male smokers who has the intention to quit smoking if the price of tobacco be raised was proportional to the degree of increasing tobacco price. It is estimated that if the tobacco price were raised more than four times as now, the presumed smoking rate goes down as low as 26.7%. If the tobacco price be raised 20% each year, presumed smoking rate is 46.2%. 4. The number of attributable male death of smoking estimated by using 8 major smoking related diseases(lung cancer, laryngeal cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) was 25,863 death each year. That is 20.1% of total age over 20 male deaths. 5. f the tobacco price were raised more than four times as now and all smokers who has intention to quit smoking quits smoking, 12,336 lives, or 47.7% of smoking related deaths could be saved. 6. IF the actual practice rate of quitting smoking among male smokers with intention to stop smoking when the price of tobacco be raised is 10%, 25%, or 50%, then the expected decrease of death numbers when the tobacco price were raised more than four times as now can be 1,112, 3,483, 5,796 respectively.

Methods: The subjects of the survey were 293 residents aged 19 or older who reside in apartments six months after the designation of Smoke-free apartment located in Daejeon. All collected data were analyzed using T-test, ANOVA and Hierarchical multiple regression of SPSS for windows(ver 24.0) program. Results: The policy compliance was higher in women and those who lived for less than two years, and non-smokers were significantly higher. The policy compliance of the whole subjects was related to satisfaction with the surrounding relationship, perceived disability about smoking cessation, frequency of smoking and the amount of smoking. The policy compliance of the whole subjects was related to the satisfaction of the surrounding relationship, the perceived disability about smoking cessation, and the amount of smoking. In addition, after the implementation of the gold research station designation policy, it had a positive impact on smoker's smoking behavior and resulted in reducing the frequency of secondhand smoke among residents. Conclusions: In order to increase the compliance of the non-smoking policy It is necessary to continuously expand the indoor smoking cessation zone policy, develop policies and supplement the health belief model components.

  • This study was performed to investigate the factors related to assertive behavior among non-smoking college students under secondhand smoke exposure. Data were collected from 246 non-smoking college students at one university in B city from October to November, 2011 and analyzed by multiple logistic regression. The factors related to assertive behavior were men(OR 3.173, 95% CI 1.676-6.005), with another smoker in household(OR 1.679, 95% CI 1.056-2.983), high level of perceived benefit(OR 2.821, 95% CI 1.044-7.623), high level of social influence(OR 3.753, 95% CI 1.845-7.634), high level of self efficacy(OR 4.140, 95% CI 2.159-7.941). It is necessary to develop and evaluate the health promotion program for enhancing of assertive behavior of non-smoking college students regarding of perceived benefit, social influence and self efficacy.

  • This study aims to confirm the association with the willingness to quit smoking in adult smokers with chronic diseases, and the research method was analyzed using data from the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey (2016-2018). The subjects were frequency analysis, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis of 960 chronically ill patients aged 19 years or older, which were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 Program. As a result of the study, depending on the level of education, high school graduation (OR=1.328, 95%CI=1.004-1.757), college graduation or higher (OR=1.556, 95%CI=1.167-2.075), the more stressed you are (OR=1.602, 95%CI) =1.217-2.109), there was an attempt to quit smoking (OR=5.263, 95% CI=4.287-6.462), which was associated with the willingness to quit smoking. It is necessary to prevent chronic diseases by reducing the smoking rate through active participation in smoking cessation programs targeting groups with high willingness to quit smoking, and by preparing measures to relieve appropriate stress.

  • This study analyzed the post-exercise cardiopulmonary function, maximal oxygen uptake, heart rate and recovery time through smoker's short - term smoking cessation and trunk stabilization exercise for 72 hours. We analyzed the effect of trunk stabilization exercise on the cardiopulmonary function of smokers and non-smokers. As a result, it was found that both smokers and non-smokers groups showed significant changes in pulmonary function (FVC, SVV, MVV), maximal oxygen uptake, recovery time Difference. This suggests that the trunk stabilization exercise may have a positive effect on the cardiopulmonary function of short-term non-smokers as well as non-smokers for a short period of time, and a more stable and effective method for preventing and improving the reduction of cardiorespiratory function
