The demand for energy is steadily rising because of rapid population growth and improvements in living standards. Consequently, extensive research is being conducted worldwide to enhance the energy supply. Transpiration power generation technology utilizes the vast availability of water, which encompasses more than 70% of the Earth's surface, offering the unique advantage of minimal temporal and spatial constraints over other forms of power generation. Various principles are involved in water-based energy harvesting. In this study, we focused on explaining the generation of energy through the streaming potential within the generator component. The generator was fabricated using sugar cubes, PDMS, carbon black, CTAB, and DI water. In addition, a straightforward and rapid manufacturing method for the generator was proposed. The PDMS generator developed in this study exhibits high performance with a voltage of 29.6 mV and a current of 8.29 µA and can generate power for over 40h. This study contributes to the future development of generators that can achieve high performance and long-term power generation.
Effects of $85^{\circ}C/85%$ Temperature/Humidity (T/H) treatment conditions on the peel strength of an electroless-plated Ni/polyimide system were investigated from a $180^{\circ}$ peel test. Peel strength between electroless-plated Ni and polyimide monotonically decreased from $37.4{\pm}5.6g/mm$ to $22.0{\pm}2.7g/mm$ for variation of T/H treatment time from 0 to 1000 hrs. The interfacial bonding mechanism between Ni and polyimide appears to be closely related to Ni-O bonding at the Ni/polyimide interface. The decrease in peel strength due to T/H treatment appears to be related to polyimide degradation due to moisture penetration through the interface and the bulk polyimide itself.
The Cu thin film material and process, which have been already used for metallization of CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor), has been highlighted as the Cu metallization is introduced to the metallization process for giga - level memory devices. The recent progresses in the development of key elements in electrochemical processes like surface pretreatment or electrolyte composition are summarized in the paper, because the semiconductor metallization by electrochemical processes such as electrodeposition and electroless deposition controls the thickness of Cu film in a few nm scales. The technologies in electrodeposition and electroless deposition are described in the viewpoint of process compatibility between copper electrodeposition and damascene process, because a Cu metal line is fabricated from the Cu thin film. Silver metallization, which may be expected to be the next generation metallization material due to its lowest resistivity, is also introduced with its electrochemical fabrication methods.
The microstructure, chemical composition, and lead isotope ratio of the Buddhist bell of Yongmoon Mountain Sangwonsa temple, which was selected as one of the three great bells of Korea by Japanese historians, were analyzed in order to estimate the origin of the material and the time of casting. The microstructure of the temple bell was composed of a copper matrix phase with ${\alpha}$, a face centered cubit lattice structure, a ${\delta}$ phase with $Cu_{41}$$(Sn,Ag,Sb)_{11}$ as the chemical structural formula, dispersed lead and $Cu_2S$ particles, and locally agglomerated fine particles. Through analysis of the chemical composition of the bell, a criterion (Pb: 0-3.0 wt%, Sn: 10-15 wt%) for distinguishing the bells of the Shilla dynasty from the bells of the Koryo Chosun dynasty is proposed. Examining the lead isotope ratio of $^{207}Pb/^{206}Pb$ and $^{208}Pb/^{206}Pb$ of the Buddhist bell of Sangwonsa temple proved that the bell was fabricated using raw materials in South Korea, which led to the conclusion that the bell was cast in Korea and the top board of the bell has been damaged by an unknown individual. The criteria of distinguishing the bells from the Shilla dynasty from the bells of the Koryo Chosun dynasty presented for the first time in this research is expected to aid in identifying and estimating the previously unclear production years of other bells.

Self-healing materials are a class of smart materials that have the structurally incorporated ability to repair damage caused by mechanical usage over time. A material (polymers, ceramics, metals, etc.) that can intrinsically correct damage caused by normal usage could lower production costs of a number of different industrial processes through longer part lifetime, reduction of inefficiency over time caused by degradation, as well as prevent costs incurred by material failure. The recent announcement from Nissan on the commercial release of scratch healing paints for use on car bodies has gained public interest on such a wonderful property of materials. This article is a second part of healing materials dealing with inorganic engineering materials such as metals, ceramics, and concrete. The healing mechanisms developed for the inorganic materials are to be discussed with the future prospect.
As the importance of rare metal is increasing globally, Japan introduced the concept of Strategic Elements in 2004, and started Strategic Elements Project in 2007. The Goal of this project run by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) is to develop high-function materials and components that do not use rare or harmful elements by studying the role and characteristics of the elements that compose materials and components and decide their functions and characteristics. In September 2010, Japanese coast guard arrested a Chinese fishing boat near Senkaku Islands (Diaoyudao Islands by China), which escalated to the territory issue and eventually a big diplomatic and economic conflict. In order to put pressure on Japanese Government, China used an economic option, which is the ban of rare earth export to Japan. This incident doubled Japan's motivation to develop Strategic Elements and put more efforts into this Project. MEXT set the following three research areas in February 2012: Study of alternative materials using sufficient and harmless elements, Study of applications for the high-functions of Strategic Elements, Study of practical design for components using Strategic Elements. Through a course of gathering the opinion of professionals, MEXT settled down with the following 4 research and study areas for the Strategic Elements Project in June 2012. 1. Magnetic materials to replace Dy, Nd. 2. Catalyst/Battery materials to replace Pt, Rh/Li, Co. 3. Electronic materials to replace In, Ta. 4. Structural materials to replace Nb, Mo. This paper deals with the first area and reviews the results of the research and study as of now.

The effects of heat input and different microstructureswere investigated on the tensile-shear properties of an arc-brazed joint of theferritic stainless steel 429EM using a Cu-Si insert alloy. The brazing speed was fixed at 800 mm/min whilethe brazing current varied from 80 to 120A. For abrazing current lower than 100A, fracturing occurred at the joint root in the direction perpendicular to the tensile load. As the brazing current increased to 120A, fracturing occurred at the base metal or the joint root. The joint and the base metal had very similar yield and tensile load values. However, the amount of elongation was decreased considerably compared to when the base metal was used. The fracturing began at the triple point of the root part and was classified into three types. The difference in the tensile-shear properties was closely related to the three fracture types.

Nanopowder of FeAl and $Al_2O_3$ was synthesized from FeO and Al powders by high energy ball milling. Using the pulsed current activated sintering method, the nanocystalline $Al_2O_3$ reinforced FeAl composite was consolidated within two minutes from mechanically synthesized powders. The advantage of this process is that it allows very quick densification to near theoretical density and prohibits grain growth in nanostuctured materials. The grain size, sintering behavior and hardness of sintered $FeAl-Al_2O_3$ composite were investigated.
To lower the annealing temperature and the deviation of the mechanical properties of bake hardening steels, high purity steels were investigated. The steels were characterized by treating at low recrystallization temperature. It was confirmed that the strengthening originated from the solid solution of carbon and the ferrite grain refinement by fine MnS precipitates as carbon and sulfur contents increased in high purity steels. However, it was observed that there was no more increase of strength in steels containing over 40 ppm of carbon. It was considered that the excess carbon formed either the carbon cluster or the low temperature unstable carbides which had the negligible effect on the strengthening because they were reported to be highly coherent with the matrix. The carbon cluster and unstable carbides could be transformed to the stable cementite during bake hardening treatment. MnS was not observed in the high purity steel containing 5 ppm S, resulting in very coarse recrystallized grains and good ductility. As sulfur content increased, the recrystallized grain size decreased due to the formation of the fine MnS precipitates.
