  • One of the sapstain fungal species isolated from the stained sapwood of a Japanese black pine in Korea was characterized. The fungal species is tolerant to cycloheximide and has Petosum-like synnema and Sporothrix type synanamorph which are found in the anamorphs of the Ophiostoma piceae complex group. But the species could not form perithecia on MEA. Based on cultural and morphological properties and analysis of the $\beta$-tubulin gene sequence, the fungal species was identified as Ophiostoma quercus. Here, we report mycological characteristics of the anamorphic stage of Ophiostoma quercus isolated in Korea.

  • Recent research on integrated and peer-to-peer databases has produced new methods for handling various types of shared-group and process data. This paper with data publishing, where the publisher needs to specify certain sensitive information that should be protected. The proposed method cannot infer the user's sensitive information is leaked by XML constraints. In addition, the proposed secure framework uses encrypt to prevent the leakage of sensitive information from authorized users. In this framework, each node of sensitive data in an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) document is encrypted separately. All of the encrypted data are moved from their original document, and are bundled with an encrypted structure index. Our experiments show that the proposed framework prevents information being leaked via data inference.

  • Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have shown promise in various applications, including molecular separation, dye separation, gas separation, filtration, and desalination. Integrating COFs into membranes enhances permeability, selectivity, and stability, improving separation processes. Combining COFs with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) creates nanocomposite membranes with high permeability and stability, ideal for dye separation. Incorporating COFs into polyamide (PA) membranes improves permeability and selectivity through a synthetic interfacial strategy. Three-dimensional COF fillers in mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) enhance CO2/CH4 separation, making them suitable for biogas upgrading. All-nanoporous composite (ANC) membranes, which combine COFs and metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes, overcome permeance-selectivity trade-offs, significantly improving gas permeance. Computational simulations using hypothetical COFs (hypoCOFs) demonstrate superior CO2 selectivity and working capacity relevant for CO2 separation and H2 purification. COFs integrated into thin-film composite (TFC) and polysulfonamide (PSA) membranes enhance rejection performance for organic contaminants, salt contaminants, and heavy metal ions, improving separation capabilities. TpPa-SO3H/PAN covalent organic framework membranes (COFMs) exhibited superior desalination performance compared to traditional polyamide membranes by utilizing charged groups to enable efficient desalination through electrostatic repulsion, suggesting their potential for ionic and molecular separations. These findings highlight COFs' potential in membrane technology for enhanced separation processes by improving permeability, selectivity, and stability. In this review, COF applied for the separation process is discussed.

  • The species composition of larval fish assemblages in the Nakdong River estuary, Korea, was determined using monthly samples collected between September 2010 and August 2011 at two stations. A total of forty three larval species were collected during the study. Among forty three taxa of fish larvae, summer gobies, Clupea pallasii, Engraulis japonicus, spring gobies, Konosirus punctatus, winter gobies, Sardinops melanostictus, Coilia nasus were dominant taxa, and these eight taxa accounted for 95.0% in the total number of individuals. Species composition and abundance varied greatly spatio-temprally showing the peak abundances of fish larvae in August 2011, and a few fish larvae were occurred in November 2010. Cluster analysis based on the number of individuals of fish larvae showed that 21 month-station sampling units were classified into five groups at the similarity level of 50%, and the results of ANOSIM and SIMPER analysis revealed significant differences in community structure among five groups.

  • Separation factor for $^6Li$ and $^7Li$ has been determined using ion exchange resin having 1,7,13-trioxa-4,10,16-triazacyclooctadecane ($N_3O_3$) as an anchor group. The ion exchange capacity of the $N_3O_3$ ion exchanger was 2.0 meq/g dry resin. The lighter isotope, $^6Li$, is concentrated in the fluid phase, while the heavier isotope, $^7Li$, is enriched in the resin phase. By column chromatography [0.3 cm(I.D)${\times}$30 cm (height)] using 3.0 M ammonium chloride solution as an eluent, single separation factor, ${\alpha}$, 1.018, i.e. $(^7Li/^6Li)_{resin}/(^7Li/^6Li)_{fluid}$ was obtained by the Glueckauf theory from the elution curve and isotope ratios.

  • An isolate of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), designated as Cas-CMV, was isolated from Chinese aster (Callistephus chinensis) showing severe mosaic symptom, and its properties was compared to the well-characterized Fny-CMV (subgroup IA) and As-CMV (subgroup IB) by host reaction in several indicator plants, dsRNA analysis, RT-PCR analysis, and restriction enzyme profile of the PCR products. Cas-CMV differed markedly in their host reaction to Fny-CMV or As-CMV in Cucurbita pepo cv. Black beauty. In the zucchini squash, all strains induced chlorotic spot on inoculated leaves and mosaic symptoms on upper leaves. However, symptoms induced by Cas-CMV were developed lethal necrosis on the young plants 15 to 20 days after inoculation. In experiments of dsRNA analysis and RT-PCR analysis, properties of Cas-CMV was come within subgroup I CMV. Moreover, restriction enzyme analysis using HindIII of the RT-PCR products showed that Cas-CMV belong to a member of CMV subgroup IA.

  • Charge transfer interaction as a hybridization mechanism of silsesquioxane/polymer was tested using carbazole (electron donor) group and dinitrobenzene (electron acceptor) group. Hybridization test was conducted using films made from mixing/casting of poly (carbazole-styrene) (PS/D) and dimtrobenzyl silsesquioxane (Cube/A), and transparent hybrid films were successfully obtained under some conditions. $^1H-NMR$ of PS/D and Cube/A, and W absorption test of hybrid films showed that one acceptor and one donor can form one charge transfer complex when no silsesquioxane molecule was included in films, but transparent hybrids with no phase separation were obtained only at acceptor/donor ratios less than 0.7 : 1. These results also suggested that on average 4 charge transfer complexes form per one silsesquioxane.

  • Mesoscale simulation is a type of molecular simulation techniques where groups of atoms are defined as a single bead for calculations, and accordingly, is possible to simulate longer time ($ns{\sim}{\mu}s$) and bigger size ($nm{\sim}{\mu}m$). There are two types of mesoscale simulations : (1) particle-based mesoscale which simulates the system by calculating the movement of the particles themselves and (2) field theory which simulates the system by calculating changes in the chemical potential filed or density field. Mesoscale simulations are powerful tools to study the macroscopic properties of polymers for various applications of energy and environment. In this review, we report the trends and useful information in mesoscale simulation and provide an opportunity for membrane researchers working in the energy-environment field to understand mesoscale simulation techniques.

  • During the 2012 growing season, 154 leaf samples were collected from sweet cherry trees in Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeongju, Kimcheon, Daegu, Yeongju and Eumseong and tested for the presence of Cherry green ring mottle virus (CGRMV). PCR products of the expected size (807 bp) were obtained from 6 samples. The PCR products were cloned and sequenced. The nucleotide sequences of the clones showed over 88% identities to published coat protein sequences of CGRMV isolates in the GenBank database. The sequences of CGRMV isolates, CGR-KO 1-6 shared 98.8 to 99.8% nucleotide and 99.6 to 100% amino acid similarities. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the Korean CGRMV isolates belong to the group II of CGRMV coat protein genes. The CGRMV infected sweet cherry trees were also tested for Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV), Apple mosaic virus (ApMV), Cherry necrotic rusty mottle virus (CNRMV), Cherry mottle leaf virus (CMLV), Cherry rasp leaf virus (CRLV), Cherry leafroll virus (CLRV), Cherry virus A (CVA), Little cherry virus 1 (LChV1), Prune dwarf virus (PDV) and Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) by RT-PCR. All of the tested trees were also infected with ACLSV.
