The Relationship between Directors' Servant Leadership and Teachers' Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Mediation Effect of Teachers' Psychological Empowerment in Childcare Centers (어린이집 원장의 서번트 리더쉽이 교사의 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향: 교사의 심리적 임파워먼트를 매개변인으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between directors' servant leadership, teachers' organizational citizenship behavior and psychological empowerment in childcare centers. The subjects were 479 teachers employed in childcare centers in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. Questionnaires, which required self-report by teachers, were used to investigate directors' servant leadership, teachers' organizational citizenship behavior and psychological empowerment. The collected data were analyzed by mean of Pearson's correlation, simple regression, hierarchial regression, by the use of SPSS Win 19.0. The results of our study was as follows. First, directors' servant leadership had a direct effect on teachers' organizational citizenship behavior. Second, teachers' psychological empowerment had a direct effect on teachers' organizational citizenship behavior. Third, directors' servant leadership had an indirect effect on teachers' organizational citizenship behavior mediated by teachers' psychological empowerment. Therefore, teachers' psychological empowerment partially mediated the relationship between directors' servant leadership and teachers' organizational citizenship behavior.

Child-Care Teachers' Perceptions of the Emerging Technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4차 산업혁명 최신기술에 대한 보육교사의 인식)

  • In this study, we investigate child-care teachers' perceptions of emerging technologies, with a particular focus on fields connected to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. More specifically, we explore how satisfied child-care teachers are with existing educational tools, whether they are interested in or willing to use the latest technology within child care, and their perceived likelihood of adopting these new technologies within child care sites. A total of 181 directors and teachers working at child care institutions in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province participated in the survey. The findings are as follows: firstly, child-care teachers were moderately satisfied with current teaching methods and their effects; secondly, child-care teachers were not especially interested in emerging technologies; thirdly, although interest in applying the latest technology to child care sites was moderately high, refusal to use this technology was also somewhat high; fourthly, many agreed that this technology would eventually become common. This study is expected to provide useful information to those planning to introduce the latest technology to child care sites and basic data to improve teacher training.

The Effect of Aptitude of Child Care Teachers of Child Care Trainees on the Stress Coping (보육교사적성이 보육실습 스트레스 대처에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was intended to investigate the effect of aptitude of child care teacher of child care trainees on the stress of child care practice and management of stress as quality and aptitude of child care teachers are being discussed and necessity of revaluation on teaching practice of child care trainees are being brought up recently. First, as a result of collecting data from 268 child care trainees, stress of child care and teaching practice and stress management showed difference between grades. Secondly, among lower factors of aptitude of child care teachers, it was identified that stress is higher in a relationship between child care center director and guidance teachers when sociability with infants is lower. Thirdly, it was identified that teachers can cope with stress of child care and teaching practice when they have higher creativity, self-development, activeness, and positiveness among lower factors of aptitude of child care teachers.

The Effects of Child Care Teachers' Job Stress and Work Environment on their Performance of Roles: Focusing on the Regulating Effects of Ego Resilience (보육교사의 직무스트레스, 직무환경이 역할수행에 미치는 영향 : 자아탄력성의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine if ego resilience has regulating effects in correlation between child care teachers' job stress and work environment and their performance of roles with child care teachers working in Seoul and Incheon. PASW 20.0 was employed to conduct frequency, percentage, and reliability analysis. For each of the study questions, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and stepwise regression analysis were done. The findings of this study are as follows; First, job stress perceived by child care teachers is found to have negative effects on their performance of roles. Second, work environment perceived by child care teachers such as relationship with the director, relationship with fellow teachers, welfare environment, support for teacher expertise, and factors related to operation or decision making are found to influence their performance of roles. Lastly, in correlation between work environment perceived by child care teachers and their performance of roles, ego resilience has regulating effects, and so does it in correlation between job stress and their performance of roles.

Effects of Early Childhood Teacher job stress on the turnover intention and job satisfaction (유아교사의 직무스트레스와 이직의도의 관계에서 직무만족의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the effects of teacher job stress and emotional intelligence on the turnover intent and job satisfaction. To this end, an early childhood teacher survey of 220 people using SPSS 9.0 data processing, analysis, and the independent variables were used to predict the dependent variable. Simple regression analysis and regression analysis of a follow-up examination were then performed. In the first study, the early childhood teachers' turnover intention due to job stress and job satisfaction revealed job stress to be a significant factor. The children's lack of leadership and administrative support work overload factors contributed to causes of stress. The turnover intention appeared to affect the mind. Second, early childhood teachers job satisfaction, job stress and turnover intention were affected by attempts to mediate the influence of job stress. Therefore, mediation plays a significant role. These results show that infant teacher duties affect the turnover intention and job satisfaction.

A Qualitative Study on the Courage of Infant & Toddler Teachers (영아교사의 용기에 관한 질적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the courage of infant & toddler teachers during their care for infants and toddlers in an effort to shed light on the courage of teachers, which has been overlooked so far. It's specifically meant to raise awareness of the necessity of courage as one of virtues that teachers should have to provide quality care. The subjects in this study were four selected infant & toddler teachers at a childcare center. Data were gathered during a 12-week period of time from June to August, 2012, by having in-depth interviews with the teachers. After the collected data were analyzed, the courage that teachers had was categorized into three: being unsparing of oneself, acting according to conscience and sticking to principles, and raising and caring. As for the first, they didn't spare themselves even though there was a danger of physical harm or death. Regarding the second, they held fast to their principles even when it's against the will of the principal and parents, and continued to modify the principles by looking back on themselves. Concerning the third, they did their utmost while they provided toilet training. In the future, the characteristics of courage that infant & toddler teachers should have to take good care of infants and toddlers should be investigated, and courage should be taken seriously as one of virtues. Besides, how to help teachers keep their courage up should carefully be considered.

The difficulties of Teachers During the Process of Early Adaptation in Day Care Center (어린이집 초기적응과정에서 나타난 영아반 보육교사의 어려움)

  • This study attempts to reveal the difficulties of teachers during the process of infant's early adaptation in the day care center and realize the thought and demand of teachers. And the purpose of this study is to make a desirable development in infant's early adaptation. The participants of the study were 9 infants all 1 year of age, their 7 parents, and 8 teachers of S public child day care center in P city. The 8 teachers were interviewed several times. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the teachers' difficulties in their relationships with the parents are 1) egotism focusing on only their own child, 2) distrust between the teachers and parents, 3) a lack of understanding in the role as parents at early adaption programs, 4) and a lack of understanding in the management of the day care center. Second, in their relationships with the infants, the teachers'difficulties are 1) the uncontrollable behaviors of infants, 2) the arbitration of struggle between children, 3) and the inequality between enrolled and fresh infants. Third, in their relationships with the teachers, the difficulties are 1) co-work with other teachers 2) and conversation with the director of the day care center. This study is expected to give actual help to understand the difficulties of teachers who experience difficulties in the early infant adaptation process and to provide important preliminary data to plan specific management which assist with the difficulties of teachers.

Development of a Scale and Analysis of Peer-assesment Questions of the Preschool Teachers (동료 유아교사 평가 척도 개발 및 분석)

  • This study is aimed for a scale of assessing the work performance, educational operations, and so on of preschool teachers by the peers. It has been previously discussed the studies of scale assesment of preschool teachers, however, the scale assesment had been a self-assesment or a transitory assesment by the senior teachers and principals only. This study is developed to assess the preschool teachers through the peer- teachers. Peer-assesment has strong points that to assess the teachers constantly can be more accurate, the assessment result can be used as the basic material for peer scholarship, and it can give the preschool teachers an opportunity to be recognised on tasks. There are 51 questions are developed to assess the peers. 9 sections total; 1) 6 questions on body human nature 2) 6 questions on view on career 3) 3 questions on self-development 4) 4 questions on curriculum planing 5) 12 questions on administering and managing 6) 6 questions on understanding children 7) 4 questions on managing a class 8) 7 questions on work performance 9) 3 questions on teaching practice. Each section is surveyed by 150 preschool teachers, and the all questions are analysed statistically appropriate of a scale(validity of contents, validity of surveyors, inter-item consistency) and appropriate of each section. It is known this peer assesment of preschool teachers is an appropriate scale.

A Study of the Relationship Between Job Status and Job Satisfactions on Early Childhood Teachers (유아교사들의 직무실태와 직무만족도에 관한 연구)

  • This study is an empirical survey of the job status and job satisfaction of early childhood teachers. The subjects of this study were teachers of early childhood education in (the province of) Chungcheongnam-do. The Early Childhood Education Institution was conducted with 255 teachers for teachers working in public day care centers, private day care centers, public kindergartens and private kindergartens. o carry out this study, we analyzed the collected questionnaires by using the SPSS statistical package program. T-test, χ2-validation and ANOVA analysis were used for this study, and Scheffé analysis was applied as a post hoc analysis. As a result of this study, job status was examined by type, age, educational attainment, and educational experience. The satisfaction level of educational institutions was highest in the national public day care centers, and the age was 50 years or older, and the education level was high in graduate school. In addition, the job satisfaction of early childhood teachers was significantly analyzed in relation to fellow teacher, relationship with the director, self-identity and teaching environment. Through this study, understanding the current job status and satisfaction of early childhood education teachers can be used as an important data in preparing a plan to raise their job performance and work efficiency.

The Structural Relationship between Director's Servant Leadership, Teacher's Empowerment and Organizational Cynicism Affecting on Teacher's Organizational Commitment at Kindergartens and Child Care Centers (육아지원기관 교사의 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 원장의 서번트 리더십과 교사의 조직 냉소주의, 임파워먼트 간의 구조적 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships between of kindergartens and child care centers director's servant leadership, teacher's organizational cynicism, empowerment, and organizational commitment. The subjects for this study were 760 teachers of kindergartens and child care centers located in Daegu, Kyoungbuk and Ulsan district. The data collected were analyzed by means of AMOS 19.0. The results indicated that 1) The director's servant leadership, teacher's empowerment and organizational cynicism have a direct influence on organizational commitment. 2) The director's servant leadership directly influences teacher's empowerment and organizational cynicism. 3) The director's servant leadership indirectly influences teacher's empowerment and organizational cynicism in terms of the level of organizational commitment.
