  • The purpose of this research was to examine the concept of elementary school teachers of combustion. The participants were selected from the elementary school teachers who had various career experiences, 6th grade science teaching experiences, and academic backgrounds on science. For the purpose of this study, 12 elementary school teachers took the concept-test formed five questions on combustion and were interviewed. The concept-test was composed with 'The definition of combustion', 'The reason that the candle was blown out when glass was closed.', 'The existence of oxygen and carbon dioxide of before and after combustion in glass', 'Combustion of iron', 'Combustion products'. And the collected data by semi-structured interviews based on responses to the concept-test. During the analysis of the data, additional interviews by phone, e-mail and Internet messenger were conducted if necessary. The answers to each question were classified into three levels: (Scientific-concept(S), Partial-concept(P), Misconcept(M)). The research results showed that all teachers had misconceptions or partial-concept of more than 50 percent of each question. Teachers who had the 6th grade science teaching experience acquired scientific concepts of the combustion more than teachers who did not have the 6th grade science teaching experience. We should develop visualization materials about the change of gases during combustion and use these materials for implementation of the scientific concept.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of students' experience participating in the flipped learning based instruction in sensory integration, and to understand the demand and introspection of participants. Methods : This study used a phenomenological approach of qualitative study. The participants were 10 students in 3rd year of the occupational therapy program in K Univeristy. Data information was collected by one-to-one interview and analyzed through phenomenological research method. Results : Through the interview, 20 units of meaning, 8 central meanings, and 3 themes were drew. The information collected were analyzed into three themes; Learning Experiences in Online and Offline Courses, Request and Introspection of Learners on Flipped Learning. The result showed that online courses brought learners convenience and satisfaction with repeatable learning in every time and space the learner want. However, the learners appealed issues of communication and concentration due to the absence of face-to-face instruction by their instructor. For the offline courses, students showed interest in various practical classwork of sensory integration and changes in their attitude to actively engage in the practical classes. Conclusion : Flipped learning based instruction was effective for the sensory integration classes which require practice in terms of time securement and immersion in practice. The learners requested for adopting flipped learning based instruction to other subjects in occupational therapy curriculum, and introspected that they needed to actively engage in classes through the experience of flipped learning-based classes of sensory integration. The results of this study can be used as a basic resource when flipped learning classes are planned in occupational therapy education.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest valuable maker education programs by implementing and evaluating a Home Economics(HE) maker education program developed based on the content of "Hanbok and Creative Clothing" for high school students. The results of this study are as follows. First, the HE maker education model for high school students was designed and developed. The HE maker education model was developed by integrating and modifying the TMSI model of the maker education model and Laster's HE practical action teaching model. The HE maker education model consisted of 4 steps: tinkering(T: 4-hour class), practical reasoning(P: 3-hour class), making together(M: 4-hour class), and sharing and spreading(S: 1-hour class) with a total of 12-hour lesson plans. The theme of the developed HE maker program is 'Practice and spread of creative traditional culture of life (Hanbok)'. Second, the results of online survey of 240 high school students who participated in this maker class showed that HE maker class had positive effects in the order of experiential(4.26), cognitive(4.22), emotional(4.18), social(4.18), and practical(4.10). It is expected that the findings of this study will contribute to diversifying the curriculum of Home Economics, thereby improving the quality of Home Economics Education.

  • 'VEC 2010' is a mid-long term scheme on the development of Vocational Education for Chung-buk which is to be accomplished by 2010. On the basis of this scheme, schools adopt 3-Type curriculum considering their conditions and covert themselves into specialized high school which is associated with local industry cluster. They also establish combined high schools which run various curriculums emphasizing basic vocational abilities so that they can meet the needs of demanders The activation plan of Chung-buk province vocational education is a dualized one which is for both ongoing education for entrance into a school of higher grade and the last education for employment, which is supposed to foster the human resources required by the knowledge-based society in the 21st century. The specific contents of 'VEC 2010' is as follows. First, VEC 2010 presents 2 kinds of mid-long term management system for industrial high schools: general industrial high school, specialized high school(single type, combined type). • The purpose of this study was to develop an effective mentoring program model. In order to develop an effective mentoring program, we identified four elements of mentoring program based on the analysis of secondary science teachers perceptions of in-service science teacher training program and mentoring. For the study, a questionnaire was developed by the authors and it was administrated to 114 secondary science teachers participated in science teacher training program. The interviews were conducted with 14 secondary science teachers. The results of this study are as follows: Most of the secondary science teachers recognized that in-service science teacher training program, which they had taken, positively affected their teaching. However, there are some aspects needed for improvements in the current teacher training program. They wanted to take the opportunities to interact with their colleagues and researchers, sharing their experiences on teaching within the teachers' community, and reflecting on their own teaching. Based on these analysis we suggest four elements for effective mentoring program. These are 'Communication,' 'Reflection for Mentor,' 'Reflection for Mentee,' and 'Evaluation.' In addition, the mentoring program is proposed to consist of four activities such as 'Feedback on teaching', 'Seminar and Workshop', 'Conference', and 'Self-evaluation'.

  • Recently, many advanced countries have used original ICT tools in their educational courses. But Korea didn't have any effective origin ICT tools in our mathematical education, compared with other countries which have developed various tools, for examples, Web-Mathematica and HP Calculator. Although we have the advanced IT environment, the educational environments in mathematics using ICT seems to be not promising. In this paper, we suggest a new mathematics education tools in ICT and the internet environments in Korea, and a teaching and studyingmodel for the teachers, students and classrooms. It is based on the Sage-Math and RPG. Sage-Math which is the software based on the web and RPG(Random Problem Generator) will give a good answer for the future of Korean mathematics ICT education.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the geological features distributed in the northwest coast, Goheung Gun as a geological field course of all levels. The study area is about 1.6km coast in direction of northwest from Sumundong ferry to Jangsun beach. The learning contents of the geology units in science textbooks from elementary school to high school was analyzed and, geomorphology and geology of study area was investigated for this study. In this study area, lots of geomorphology and geology elements related to the learning contents of the geology units in science textbooks were founded such as gravel beach, sea cliff, granite, rhyolite, andesite, gneiss, sedimentary rocks, fault, unconformity, stratification, cross bedding, graded bedding, intrusion structure, vein, dyke, plant fossil and spheroidal weathering. Characteristically, strata, stratification, granite, sedimentary rocks(conglomerate, sandstone, mudstone and shale), fault, plant fossil and weathering phenomenon were commonly involved with the learning contents of the geology units in elementary school science, middle school science and high school earth science I, II. This area is to be recommended as a site of geological field course for all students from elementary school to high school, as various field work materials for geological learning were distributed and, geological observation trail of about 400m in length for observation of strata and so on was installed along the coast in direction of the northwest from Sumundong ferry.
