Helicobacter pylori and Gastric Carcinogenesis (Helicobacter pylori와 위암발생)

  • Ever since the World Health Organization classified Helicobacter pylori as a class I carcinogen, a variety of discussions over the actual role of H. pylori infection in gastric carcinogenesis has existed. Although a majority of researches support the positive correlation between H. pylori infection and the development of gastric cancer, many aspects of this association are yet uncertain, and some data even suggest that there may be no correlation between H. pylori infection and gastric carcinogenesis. However, there are proofs indicating these reports underestimated the prevalence of H. pylori infection and therefore, the association of the infection and gastric adenocarcinoma. In this report, I reviewed the epidemiology of H. pylori and gastric cancer, evidence supporting and against the positive correlation of the infection and the disease, and the possible pathological role H. pylori infection may have in gastric carcinogenesis referring particular to published literature. As a conclusion, despite a few reports of a possible negative or no relationship between gastric cancer and H. pylori infection, I was able to find that H. pylori infection did have a pathological role in the development of gastric cancer.

  • Digital forensics refers to finding electronic evidences related to crimes. As cyber crimes are increasing daily, digital forensics for finding electronic evidences is also becoming important. At present, various aspects of digital forensics have being researched including the overall process model and analysis techniques such as network forensics, system forensics and database forensics for digital forensics. Regarding database forensics, only analysis techniques dependent on specific vendors have been suggested. And general process models and analysis techniques which can be used in various databases have not been studied. This paper proposes an integrated process model and analysis technique for database forensics. The proposed database forensics model (DFM) allows us to solve problems and analyze databases according to the situation and purpose, and to use a standard model and techniques for various database analyses. In order to test our model(DFM), we applied it to various database analyses. And we confirmed the results of our experiment that it can be applicable to acquisition in the scene as well as analysis of data relationships.

A Study of Relationship between Research Outcome and Policy Decision Making: For invigoration of Convergence Research (융합연구의 활성화를 위한 연구 성과와 정책 결정의 영향 관계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to find ways to impact policies in order to invigorate convergence research as a whole (including science or engineering-based and its humanities-based counterpart), so it can be recognized as the science of its own form. Firstly we looked at the definition of convergence research. Secondly, we looked at the definition of policy and how policies are produced. Lastly, we explored the relationship between convergence research and policy decision making. The current issues faced by the convergence research were the fact that it was largely under-appreciated and inadequately supported both in terms of policy and financial support. In this study, we explore the relationship between research and policy based on a research utilization model, which can be categorized the research and policy relationship into four types. Then we sought for various cases to explore how research can affect policies as scientific evidence; how the technological changes caused by convergence research can be shaped into policies; and then provide insights for what challenges needed to be addressed in order to have a positive impact on the relationship.

  • 보통미래를 예측하는 사람들은 현재의 사회학, 지정학 그리고 과학기술과 같은 실체들의 정황과 과거의 성과들을 심사숙고 하여 평가함으로써 미래를 예측한다. 이러한 정황증거에 기인하기에 일들의 미래에 대한 예측은 독창성이나 대담성도 요구되지 않고, 실질적으로 상상력이 풍부한 것도 아니며, 분명한 현실의 범주에서 벗어나는 확신할 수 있는 가능성을 많이 가지고 있는 것도 아니다. 그러므로 나는 수의학의 미래에 대한 특별한 청사진을 제시하려 하는 것은 아니다. 다만, 나는 다음 세기에 접근하고 있는 이때에 연구, 교육, 그리고 전문적 직업 서비스 분야에의 수의직능에 적용 가능한 몇 가지 과제와 기회에 관하여 기술하고자 한다.

Characteristics of School Science Inquiry Based on the Case Analyses of High School Science Classes (고등학교 과학수업 사례 분석을 통한 학교 과학 탐구의 특징)

  • This study aims to explore how to characterize high school science inquiry. For this research, data were collected from fifteen science classes (18 hours), through observation and videotaping, interviews with a few students and their teacher, and documents such as lesson plan or activity sheet in 13 Science Core High Schools. All the data were transcribed and analyzed. Analyses of these transcripts were proceeded in three steps: first, classroom cases showing active interactions between teacher-students and among students were selected; second, according to cognitive process of inquiry (Chinn & Malhotra, 2002), each segment was analyzed and interpreted; lastly, distinctive cases were determined to show essential features of school science inquiry. Based on the analyses, we characterize high school science inquiry in terms of features of variables controlling-device improvement, design studies, evidence-explanation transformation, and reasoning to formulate explanations from evidence. Teachers' role and educational support were discussed as well as the practical characters or features of school science inquiry.

A cognitive psychological consideration of Michael Chehov's acting techniques (미카엘 체홉 연기 테크닉에 대한 인지심리학적 고찰)

  • This research aims to study Michael Chekhov's acting techniques scientifically, because his techniques has been studied only theoretically or empirically. Especially, this study focuses on 'imagination' and 'Psychological Gesture' from the perspective of cognitive psychology. Chekhov thought 'imagination' as the basis and core of all the works of acting. In cognitive psychology, it is called as 'imagery' and means 'a representation of the mind of the object not communicated by the sensory organs currently'. This study starts with defining imagery and takes a brief look at the features and kinds of imagery. Then the researcher will prove scientifically the possibility of training acting using imagery as Chekhov's assertion. For the proof of the validity of imagery, we'll look for the theoretical evidences-functional equivalence hypothesis, psychoneuromuscular theory, symbolic learning theory, psychophygiological information processing-and experimental ones-measurements of cerebral blood flow or event-related potential, experiments with fMRI(functional magnetic resonance imaging) or PET(positron emission tomography). As a result, we can see that imagery is functionally identical to perception and improves fulfillment of cognitive and physical tasks. As proving physical changes can draw out psychological changes(feeling) on the medium of imagery, we can also see the validity of Psychological Gesture. From the above research, even if Chekhov developed the acting techniques only on the basis of his experience, his techniques can be thought as having scientific validity. Though insufficient, this study can be a help for actors or students as they using Chekhov's techniques.

The Process of Elaboration in Pre-service Science Teachers' Conceptions of Scientific Thinking (과학적 사고에 관한 예비 과학교사의 개념 정교화 과정)

  • Although the development of scientific thinking is one of the significant goals in science education in schools, there is a lack of empirical research on how science teachers conceptualize scientific thinking. This study explored how four pre-service secondary-level science teachers conceptualized scientific thinking and elaborated their conceptions through peer discussions. Results involved each pre-service teacher's conceptual spectrum of scientific thinking and showed the process of elaboration in their conceptions about three crucial issues in small-group or larger discussions. Three issues related to scientific thinking included everyday vs. scientific thinking, the relationship between science knowledge and scientific thinking, and the relationship between logical systems and evidence. Implications for pre-service science teacher education were discussed, and further research was suggested based on the results of this study.

A Study on the Role of Computer-Added Stenography in Scientific Investigation (과학적 조사기법에 적합한 컴퓨터 속기의 역할에 관한 연구)

  • The revision of the criminal procedure act in 2008 marked a great turnaround in the criminal trial system in our country, and the criminal trial system has been based on the trial priority principle from then on. People in general have been entitled to participate in criminal trials, which can be called the jury system, and their awareness of the law has consequently been taken to another level. And the principle of trial by evidence that requires fair process, explanation and scientific evidence is realized in a manner to be appropriate at people(jury)'s level. The prosecution was introduced a video recording system to ensure the efficiency of scientific criminal investigation and assisted every prosecutor's office across the nation to hire computer-added stenographers to back up the documentation of statements during video recording. The purpose of this study was to examine the Korean and foreign computer-added stenography systems and the prospect of computer-added stenography of the video recording system that has been utilized to make a scientific investigation. The effort by this study to look into the roles and prospect of computer-added stenography in the video recording system that has been introduced to improve the efficiency of scientific investigation, which the prosecution pursues, is expected to expedite the advancement of criminal investigation, to guarantee the protection of human rights and to shed new light on the importance and status of computer-added stenography in the trial priority principle.

한국 학술연구의 양적 성장과 질적 성장 간의 괴리 탐색

  • 이 연구는 한국 학계가 그간 많은 성장을 일구어 왔음에도 질적 수준에 대해서 지속적인 비판을 받고 있는 현 상황에 의문을 갖고 연구를 시작하였다. 최근 연구의 질적 수준 제고를 위해 연구개발 성과평가 제도가 전면적인 변화를 겪고 있음에도 정작 한국 학술연구의 질적 수준 문제가 어떠한 양상으로 나타나고 있는지 과학적인 증거를 제시하고자 하는 노력은 지금까지 매우 미흡했다. 이에 이 연구에서는 한국 연구의 양적 성장과 질적 성장 간의 괴리가 어떠한 양상으로 나타나는지 가시적인 일면을 제시하기 위하여 한국 연구자가 포함된 모든 SCI 논문을 수집하고 이를 대학, 출연연, 기업, 해외기관, 기타 소속 저자로 구분하여 양적 추세와 피인용횟수 추세를 비교하고자 하였다. 분석결과 해외기관 소속 저자와 국내기관 소속 저자 간에 유의미한 수준의 피인용횟수 격차가 나타나고 있으며, 이러한 격차는 시간의 흐름에 따라 해소되지 않고 있는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 분야별로 격차가 다르게 나타나 생화학 분자생물학이나 신경과학 신경학 등의 분야에서 피인용횟수의 격차가 보다 높게 나타나고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 최근 한국 공공연구 영역에서 전면적으로 일어나고 있는 질적 평가체제로의 전환 움직임에 대해서 그 세부적인 설계와 차등 요건의 적절성에 대해 다시 한 번 생각해볼 수 있는 계기를 제공한다.

Science Teachers' Orientation toward Scientific Inquiry-Based Teaching (중학교 과학 교사의 과학 탐구 교수 지향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate science teachers' orientation toward scientific inquiry-based teaching. In this study, five middle school science teachers formed and participated in a teacher learning community for scientific inquiry-based instruction during one year. Data collection consisted of pre and post questionnaire and interviews, audio-recordings of teachers' collaborative lesson planning and reflection on teaching practice, and field notes of participant teachers' teaching practice and follow-up interviews. Data analysis indicated that there were four orientations toward scientific inquiry-based teaching. They were knowledge and beliefs about 'goals of scientific inquiry-based teaching', 'scientific inquiry-based teaching and learning', 'argumentation-based teaching and learning', and 'nature of science and science inquiry'. Teachers' collaboration in a teacher learning community would be effective in facilitating teachers' orientation to scientific inquiry-based teaching.
