A Study on the Literature Review of Information Use Behavior in Specialized Fields (주제별 연구자의 정보이용행태에 관한 선행연구 분석)

  • This research reviews literature regarding information use behavior published during the period of 1970 to 2014 in Korea. It aims to identify the researchers' information use behavior in specialized fields and contributes to provide the effective information services based on users' needs. In order to do that, it reviews research papers that are associated with information use behavior by primarily examining the subjects, methods, variables, results, and suggestions of collected literature. It reveals some differences among researchers according to their fields, career, and status while researchers in various fields make appearance the change of information use up to digital environments. It is suggested that information services based on the users' characteristics should be provided.

  • 이 논문에서는 센서 레지스트리 시스템의 성능 개선을 위한 실험 평가를 기술한다. 센서 레지스트리 시스템(Sensor Registry System, SRS)은 이기종 센서 네트워크 환경에서 다양한 유형의 센서 정보(Sensor Information)를 의미 처리하기 위해 제안되었다. 기존 연구에서는 반복적인 SRS와 모바일 기기 간 통신이 전체적인 성능을 저하시키는 문제점을 지닌다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서 데이터 범위 및 센서 메타데이터의 재사용을 고려한 모델(IM-1, IM-2, IM-3)을 제안한다. 기존 모델과 달리 메타데이터의 재사용을 한 결과가 더 좋은 성능을 보인다. 이 연구의 결과는 SRS를 이용하는 사용자에게 좀 더 빠른 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 장점을 지닌다.

  • 사용자의 참여와 공유형 서비스들이 증가함에 따라, 웹 상에서의 이미지의 종류와 수도 증가하였다. 본 연구에서는 보다 효율적인 이미지 검색을 위하여, 이미지의 특정 요소만을 반영한 분석과 검색 방법이 아닌 다양한 속성을 융합적으로 고려한 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 하나의 이미지에서 이미지가 가지고 있는 색의 조화, 주요 색상, 형태, 느낌, 질감 다섯 가지 속성을 이미지 특성 추출 기술을 통해 추출하고, 이를 각각의 속성에 대하여 폴리곤으로 나타내는 이미지 속성 그래프를 생성하는 방안을 제안한다. 또한, 질의에 따라 속성의 우선순위를 부여하고, 폴리곤 매칭을 통하여 사용자의 목적에 맞게 이미지를 분석하고 정보를 제공하는 방법을 설명한다.

  • For science applications that requires rapid transfer and sharing of large volume data, many efforts to improve data transfer performance have been made based on concurrency, parallelism and pipelining in data transfer applications such as Globus/GridFTP. In this paper, as a similar trial, experiments have been conducted for the expected transfer throughput enhancement by the increased number of network interface and parallelism in the Mptcp emulation environment and the result is presented.

Influencing Factors for the Information Commons User Satisfaction: An Analysis of School Libraries (Information Commons 이용자 만족의 영향요인: 학교도서관 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze influencing factors for the user satisfaction of information commons(IC) in school libraries. Relevant previous studies inform four candidate factors that could affect the user satisfaction. Based upon these factors and user interviews, a questionnaire are constructed to form 29 items in total. As the main data, 412 samples are collected from the IC users from 3 high schools in Seoul. Analyses lead to these findings: factors affecting the user satisfaction are identified. They are IC facilities, human services, and achievement level of self-directed learning. It seems that, in ICs, users prefer using space and facilities by themselves to accessing contents. This study suggests ways to improve user satisfaction. It would be essential to introduce IC facilities to current and potential users, to install instruments to enhance achievement level of self-directed learning, and to train users through library education programs.

  • This study aims to evaluate the quality of Bibliographic database : The Union Catalog system(UNICAT) and Korean Library Information System Network(KOLIS-NET). The seven criteria(Coverage, Accuracy, Completeness, Currentness, Consistency on the quality of data itself and easy of use, Customer Support on the quality of database service) are used to measure their quality. The purpose of this study was dignose the quality of two bibliographic database mentioned above and analyses the measured result of quality comparatively and to find out the problems of them and also to provide possible suggestion for their improvements.

  • As a Korean national institute, KISTI has assigned and deposited DOIs to use Korean journals internationally as well as to enlarge the citation all over the world. In addition, KISTI has provided the service, Cited-by linking, which is to identify the citation among journals. In the paper, we would like to propose the way to expand the citation, finding the result of citation by using Cited-by linking based on DOIs in CrossRef for Scientific and technical journals deposited by KISTI.

  • Runtime updating of component is a technology which is replacing component used in program with newly implemented component without terminating running program using old one. Recently, it is trend that softwares are developed by reusing the existing component. When we use these components to softwares which have to offer consecutive services, they must be terminated or shutdown to update component with newly implemented one. In this case, users who are offered services of software have to request them one more time and sometimes lose informations which they use. Therefore, this paper suggests how to update components with newly implemented one without terminating tbe running software wbicb is cmnposed witb tbe component for tbe purpose of solving problems which are occurred wben existing components are being ubdated.

  • [ $OntoFrame^{(R)}$ ] system provides information dissemination service and inference service, based on Semantic Web framework to fully support R&D activities. Although it is one of state-of-the-art systems in the viewpoint of functionality, we are not able to declare whether it has satisfiable usability because of the omission of usability test in development process. Thus, this research tries to reveal the usability level of the $OntoFrame^{(R)}$, and further to find ways to achieve a user-center system. Both 'theory-based assessment' by a software ergonomics expert and 'user test' by four users are used for evaluating the usability of the $OntoFrame^{(R)}$. We look forward this research to being a basic reference for practical systems aiming at satisfiable usability.

Load Distribution Method based on Transcoding Time Estimation on Distributed Transcoding Environments (분산 트랜스코딩 환경에서 트랜스코딩 시간 예측 기반 부하 분산 기법)

  • Due to improved wireless communication technologies, it is possible to provide multimedia streaming service for mobile device clients like PDAs and cellphones. Wireless networks are serviced on low bandwidth channels and mobile devices work on limited hardware specifications. In these conditions, transcoding technologies are needed to adapt the media for streaming services to given mobile environments. To transcode from the source media to the target media for corresponding grades, transcoding servers perform transcoding jobs as exhausting their resources. Since various transcoding loads occur according to the target transconding grades, an effective transcoding load balancing policy is required among transcoding servers. In addition to transcoding process, servers should maintain QoS streams for mobile clients for total serviced times. It requires real-time requirements to support QoS for various mobile clients. In this paper, a new transcoding load distribution method is proposed. The proposed method can be driven for fair load balance between distributed transcoding servers. Based on estimated transcoding time, movie information and target transcoding bit-rate, it provides fair transcoding load distribution and also performs admission control to support QoS streams for mobile clients.
