  • This study investigates the perceptions, Stages of Concern (SoC), and Levels of Use (LoU) regarding process-based assessment among Home Economics (HE) teachers to determine the necessary support for its implementation in schools. Data were gathered from a survey administered to HE teachers. The results are as follows. First, HE teachers viewed process-based assessment favorably, valuing its multifaceted evaluation approach over result-based assessment. The feedback from process-based assessments was seen as an opportunity for reflection for both educators and students. While some teachers expressed uncertainty about the optimal timing of implementation, they generally demonstrated a sound understanding of the feedback concept within the assessment process. HE teachers were predominantly concerned with their own professional expertise and the learning outcomes of their students. The majority of HE teachers have utilized process-based assessments for at least one semester. None deemed it irrelevant to their practice or showed disinterest in its adoption. Those who had yet to implement it were either in the first(introduction) or the second(preparation) stages.

  • As the basic approach of national curriculum shifted from contents-based to competency-based, process-fortified assessment has been stressed. Accordingly, the focus of teacher's role as an evaluator changed to process-fortified assessment, which emphasizes the development of process-fortified assessment competency of pre-service teachers as well. This study aims to explore the effects of innovations of teacher development programs on pre-service teachers' process-fortified assessment competency. To achieve this goal, C University of Education implemented a course which was restructured by using PBL, and analyzed its effects on enrolled pre-service teachers in terms of process-fortified assessment. By systematically analyzing data of observation notes, project outputs, and opinion reports, it was found that PBL approach to the course restructuring had positive impacts on pre-service teachers' awareness and understanding about process-fortified assessment. This implies that providing learning experience reflected by process-fortified assessment perspective, like PBL, can play an important role to the development of process-fortified assessment competency of pre-service teachers. The results of this study are expected to be able to provide methods of innovating curriculum and instruction for developing process-fortified assessment competencies of teacher development institutions.

  • As a part of the second-year monitoring study on the implementation of the 2015 revised science curriculum in middle schools, this study focuses more on examining middle school science teachers' perceptions on the process-based assessment (PBA). A total of 105 middle school science teachers (44 teachers from science leading schools, 61 teachers from ordinary schools) responded to the survey questionnaire, and 16 teachers participated in interviews. The results include teachers' perceptions on the changes in their teaching and assessment methods, some challenges of implementing PBA, and educational implications of PBA. Survey results indicate that the teachers perceived themselves using more PBA methods after the 2015 revised science curriculum was launched. The teachers in science-leading schools present statistically higher average scores to the items on the PBA utilization than the ones in ordinary schools. However, the teachers felt confused in conceptually differentiating PBA from prior performance-based assessment. They also experienced some conflicts when implementing PBA under the achievement-oriented school atmospheres. In addition, they often faced difficulties in securing objectivity and reliability of PBA and felt the burden of evaluating individual students. This study suggests the necessity of giving more authority and trust to science teachers regarding PBA, constructing more supportive environment to cultivate teacher competency as evaluation experts, and the need to reduce task burden. However, some teachers who actively implemented PBA express some level of satisfaction as observing students' positive reaction to PBA.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze application status about the process-centered assessment in elementary school science classes. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 133 teachers and 2,089 students in elementary schools, and in-depth interviews with eight teachers were conducted. Elementary school teachers had a positive attitude toward the adoption of the process-centered assessment of 2015 revised science curriculum. After applying 2015 revised science curriculum, teachers used more performance assessments and less traditional ones in science classes. Elementary school students recognized that they receive feedbacks from their teachers more often with the implementation of the 2015 revised science curriculum. Through in-depth interviews, it was possible to confirm the difficulty of applying the process-centered assessment of elementary school teachers, such as lack of understanding of process-centered assessment and lack of time for its application. Based on the results of the study, the necessity for improving teacher understanding of process-centered assessment and the need to disseminate process-centered assessment materials are suggested.

  • This study analyzed how characteristics of process-focused assessment are implemented in the distributed process-focused assessment examples in elementary school science education. To this end, through a review of previous studies, the analysis perspectives on the characteristics of the process-focused assessment were extracted into six categories. Using the analysis framework, it was described how process-focused assessment examples in elementary school science education developed by metropolitan office of education reflected the characteristics of process-focused assessment. As a result of the study, the characteristics of process-focused assessment were often formally reflected in sample materials. For example, there was a lack of skills on how to effectively integrate instruction and evaluation in practical terms. In many cases, feedback simply induced a recall of a learned concept or simply guides a related scientific concept. In some cases, the characteristics of process-focused assessment did not appear prominently in the sample materials. Also the developed sample materials were divided into the same type as the existing science and performance assessment questionnaire, a narrative·essay type, and a type similar to experimental workbook.

  • The purpose of this study is to find ways to establish and operate Process-focused Assessment in the classroom as the 2015 revised curriculum has emerged. As a way of doing so, we proposed a Process-focused Assessment through self-assessment and looked at the impact of the applied classes on the mathematical academic performance and affective domain of fifth-grade elementary school students. After selecting two classes of fifth grade with proven homogeneity for research, the experimental group applied Process-focused Assessment through self-assessment and the teacher-led Process-focused Assessment to the comparative group. As a result, it was confirmed that the classes applying Process-focused Assessment through self-assessment significantly improved the math and academic performance of fifth-grade elementary school students. The affective domain of the experimental group did not change significantly, but the analysis of the students' comments and interview data showed that they had more interest and confidence in mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the commonality between process-focused assessment and existing performance evaluation and to find out whether the process-focused assessment is effective for the development of the character of school mathematics. By analyzing the previous research, this study defined the meaning of process-focused assessment as an evaluation that can improve students' growth and quality of class through immediate feedback by introducing various performance tasks and evaluation methods. The character of school mathematics refers to personality factors that are easily expressed and cultivated during math classes. Therefore, this study presented examples of the feasibility of process-focused assessment focusing on geometry and vector subjects and examined the effectiveness of mathematics and character development through process-based evaluation. Four course-based assessments (math experiments, logic, proof, and communication) aimed at cultivating the character of school mathematics were conducted from March to June 2019 for the third year of high school. The index was measured. Analysis of the results using the corresponding variable t-test showed that the process-based evaluation in this study had a significant effect on the character of school mathematics development.
