Solution copolymerization of styrene(St.) with methyl methacrylate(MMA), ethyl methacrylate(EMA) and n-butyl methacrylate(BMA) was carried out with benzoylperoxide(BPO) as an initiator in toluene at $80^{\circ}C$ in a continuous stirred tank reactor. Reaction volume and residence time were 0.6 liters and 3hours, respectively. The monomer reactivity ratios, $r_1(St.)$ and $r_2(RMA)$ determined by both the Kelen-Tudos method and the Fineman-Ross method were $r_1(St.)=0.60(0.61),\;r_2(MMA)=0.59(0.60);\;r_1(St.)=0.65(0.62),\;r_2(EMA)=0.55(0.52);\;r_1(St.)=0.75(0.67),\;r_2(BMA)=0.63(0.56)$. The cross-termination factor $\Phi$ of the copolymer over the entire St. compositions ranged from 0.26 to 0.96. The $\Phi$ factors of St.-RMA copolymer were increased with increasing St. content. The simulated conversions and copolymerization rates were compared with the experimental results. The average time to reach dynamic steady-state was three times and half of the residence time.
In general, the synthesis of poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT)-based block copolymers requires at least a 4-5 step process. To control the molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and block ratio, the reaction conversion and time should be monitored. In addition, the reaction scale usually limited to several mg to g was difficult to increase due to the limitations of living radical polymerizations. In this study, we synthesized P3HT-b-poly(4-vinylprydine) (P3HT-b-P4VP) with a final product quantity of > 19 g via a 2-step synthetic method with an anionic polymerization. In this method, the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of P3HT-b-P4VP can be well controlled without monitoring the reaction conversion. We also studied physical properties of P3HT-b-P4VP depending on different solvent systems, which were investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy.
Blends of poly (acrylic acid-co-maleic acid)(PAM) with poly (vinyl alcohol)(PVA) were obtained by solution blending. The blends were solvent-on to a film to examine thermo-mechanical properties and gas permeability. The transition temperatures $(T_g\;and\;T_m)$ of the blends remained constant regardless of PAM contents. However, the values of enthalpy changes corresponding to melting transition $({\Delta}H_m)$ and initial degradation temperature $({T_D}^i)$ were decreased with increasing PAM content. The values of ultimate strength and initial modulus gave the maximum value at the 12 wt% PAM then decreased with further increase of PAM content up to 15 wt%. To measure the gas permeability of the PVA/PAM blend films, the PVA blend solutions were coated onto both biaxially oriented propylene (BOPP) and poly (ethylene terephthalate)(PET) films. The oxygen transmission rate $(O_2\;TR)$ permeability values mono- tonically decreased with increasing PAM content. However, moisture vapor transmission rate was not affected by PAM content.
Recently, people's interest in eco-friendly plastics derived from nature to replace petroleum-based plastics is increasing due to environmental problems such as microplastics. In line with this trend, eco-friendly adhesives using natural materials and processes are also being developed in the adhesive field. Among them, maltose is a natural substance derived from starch and is the main component of starch syrup used as a food additive. Due to its lower molecular weight than starch, it is easily soluble in water, and above all, there is a possibility that it can be copolymerized with other monomers through solution polymerization. However, researches related to the application of maltose to adhesives are very rare. In this study, after modifying maltose using acrylic anhydride, the product was analyzed through FT-IR and H-NMR. And the modified maltose was copolymerized with two kinds of acrylic monomers. The synthesized adhesive was applied on the wood and the adhesive performance were investigated.
In this study, we synthesized polyimide with high carbon dioxide gas transport property using 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane, 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine and poly(ethylene glycol) bis(3-aminopropyl) terminated and then we calculated solubility parameter of synthesized polymer and non-solvent phase separation coefficient to determine proper solvent for preparation of asymmetric membrane, also we measured the viscosity of the polymer solution to check polymer contents in membrane solution and prepare asymmetric membrane with $LiNO_3$ additives. The morphology and gas separation property of membrane prepared by phase separation method was confirmed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microsope and the single gas permeation measurement apparatus. We confirmed that the carbon dioxide permeance of the membrane increased and the selectivity showed little change with decreasing of the volatile solvent contents.
The stress relaxation of poly(methyl acrylate)-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymer samples were carried out in air and distilled water at various temperatures using the tensile tester with the solvent chamber. The rheological parameters were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the theoretical equation of the Eyring-Halsey non-Newtonian model. The self diffusion, hole volume, viscosities, and thermodynamic parameters of copolymer samples were calculated from rheological parameters and crystallite size in order to study of flow segments in amorphous region. It was observed that the rheological parameters of these copolymer samples are directly related to the self diffusion, hole volume, viscosities, and thermodynamic parameters of flow segments.
UV-curable pressure sensitive adhesives were prepared by blending acrylic copolymer, copolymerized with butyl acrylate, acrylic acid and methyl methacrylate by solution polymerization, and trimethylolpropane triacrylate. The PSAs were evaluated by adhesion strength with varying UV dose, and also glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of PSAs were measured. When exposed on UV irradiation, the PSAs showed the decreased adhesion strength and increased $T_g$. And following UV irradiation, the PSAs did not leave any residue on wafer after peel off PSA.

The PLGA(Poly lactide-co-glycolide) Copolymer have been actively applied to the medical implant material as biomaterials. PLGA membrane was able to alveoloplasty with osteotomy for favorable degradation characteristics and possibilities for sustained drug delivery. In this study, PLGA membrane was prepared using phase inversion method, and examined to optical method analysis(NMR, IR), mechanical property measurement (tearing strength) and thermal characteristic analysis(DSC). In addition, the biodegradation characteristics of the PLGA membrane filled with a PBS(Phosphate Buffered Solution) of the water bath ($60^{\circ}C$) according to the degree of surface degradation in the degradation time, the pH change of the solution and change of the mass of the membrane were measured.
Copolyimides were synthesized from bis (3-aminophenyl) sulfone (APS) and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) containing a fluorine substituent ($-CF_3$) with different mole ratios of 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (DSDA) containing a sulfone group (-$SO_2$-). The PI films were obtained from poly (amic acid) (PAA) by solution casting through thermal imidization on a glass plate. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), universal tensile machine (UTM) measurements, and UV-Vis spectrometry were used to assess thermo-mechanical properties, morphology, and optical transparency. Thermal properties and optical transparency decreased with increasing DSDA mole fraction. In contrast, mechanical properties increased with increasing DSDA mole fraction. As compared to conventional PI films, however, the PI copolymer films in this work were found to exhibit better optical transparency.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and its copolymer with hexafluoropropylene (HFP) were successfully prepared from free radical solution polymerizations using diisopropyl peroxidicarbonate (DIPPDC) in the presence of 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane (R-113). The reactivity ratios of VDF and HFP were estimated as$r_{VDF}=2.06{\pm}0.03$ and $r_{HFP}{\approx}0$. This result indicates that HFP cannot undergo self propagation. The weight-average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of copolymers were found to decrease with increasing HFP content. The melting temperature of copolymers linearly decreased with the increase of HFP content because of the introduction of HFP. Moreover, no melting peak was observed for the copolymers with high HFP content. The glass transition temperature of copolymers gradually increased with the increase of HFP content due to the restricted flexibility of the polymer chains.
