Humidity and strain were estimated for understanding the relation between humidity change by self-desiccation and shrinkage in high-performance concrete with low water binder ratio. Internal humidity change and shrinkage strain were about 10%, 4% and $320\times10^{-6}$, $120\times10^{-6}$ respectively on concrete with water binder ratio 0.3, 0.4 and from the results, humidity change and shrinkage represented the strong linear relation regardless of mixture. For specifying the relation on internal humidity change and autogenous shrinkage strain, shrinkage model was established which is driven by capillary pressure in pore water and surface energy in hydrates on the assumption of a single network and extended meniscus in pore system of concrete. This model and experimental results had a similar tendency so it would be concluded that the internal humidity change by self-desiccation in HPC originated in small pores less than 20 nm, therefore controlling plan on autogenous shrinkage might be focused on surface tension of water and degree of saturation in small pore.
Due to the increasing significance of durability, much researches on carbonation, one of the major deterioration phenomena are carried out. However, conventional researches based on fully hardened concrete are focused on prediction of carbonation depth and they sometimes cause errors. In contrast with steel members, behaviors in early-aged concrete such as porosity and hydrates (calcium hydroxide) are very important and may be changed under carbonation process. Because transportation of deteriorating factors is mainly dependent on porosity and saturation, it is desirable to consider these changes in behaviors in early-aged concrete under carbonation for reasonable analysis of durability in long term exposure or combined deterioration. As for porosity, unless the decrease in $CO_2$ diffusion due to change in porosity is considered, the results from the prediction is overestimated. The carbonation depth and characteristics of pore water are mainly determined by amount of calcium hydroxide, and bound chloride content in carbonated concrete is also affected. So Analysis based on test for hydration and porosity is recently carried out for evaluation of carbonation characteristics. In this study, changes in porosity and hydrate $(Ca(OH)_2)$ under carbonation process are performed through the tests. Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) for changed porosity, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) for amount of $(Ca(OH)_2)$ are carried out respectively and analysis technique for porosity and hydrates under carbonation is developed utilizing modeling for behavior in early-aged concrete such as multi component hydration heat model (MCHHM) and micro pore structure formation model (MPSFM). The results from developed technique is in reasonable agreement with experimental data, respectively and they are evaluated to be used for analysis of chloride behavior in carbonated concrete.

This study estimated the contribution rates of inlet air flow, moisture content, air-filled porosity and particle size on the total pressure drop for the sawdust used as the bulking agent in the composting. The statistical model for pressure drop including the affecting factors was proposed.($R^2=0.998{\sim}0.950$) While the laminar air flow(v) and particle size(SIZE*v) had the positive relations to the total pressure drop, the turbulent air flow($v^2$), moisture content(MC*v) and air-filled porosity(AFP*v) had the negative relations. Total pressure drop sharply increased with increasing of the inlet air flow. And the most significant factors affecting to total pressure drop were the particle size(SIZE*v) as positive factor and air-filled porosity(AFP*v) as negative factor. The contribution rate to total pressure drop by the particle size(SIZE*v) was continuously increased with increasing of the inlet air flow, but the contribution rate by air-filled porosity(AFP*v) was decreased. And total pressure drop was little changed even though the increasing of moisture content above the range of dry moisture content 0.25. The contribution rates of affecting factors had the different tendencies with increasing of the moisture content, especially in the negative factors as air-filled porosity(AFP*v) and moisture content(MC*v). For effective composting process, it is preferable to select the sawdust with higher air-filled porosity as bulking agent to enhance the air permeability.
This paper presents a comprehensive laboratory study that examines the effects of porosity, water content, density and grain size distribution on the thermal conductivity of soils which were sampled from 16 synoptic stations of Korea. The experimental results clearly demonstrate that porosity and water content are important parameters which strongly affect the thermal conductivity of soils. Soils with lower porosities and higher water contents have higher thermal conductivities. On the contrary, increase of the matrix density slightly increases the thermal conductivity, and grain size distribution hardly affects the thermal conductivity. Dry soils with the same porosity tend to have more scattered values of thermal conductivity than wet soils. Based on the experimental results, a multiple linear regression model and a nonlinear regression model, having two regression variables of porosity and water content, were presented to predict thermal conductivity. Both models show a high accuracy of prediction with $R^2$ values of 0.74 and 0.82, respectively. Thus, it is expected that the suggested empirical models can be used for predicting thermal conductivity of soils by measuring porosity and water content.

In this paper, the effect of compression levels on the strengths of porous concrete using bottom ash aggregates was analyzed. Coal bottom ash (CBA) was used as aggregate in porous concrete in this study. The aggregate size types used in the CBA concrete mixtures were catagorized into two different ones. One included only a single aggregate particle size and the other included hybrid aggregate particles mixed at a ratio of 8:2 volume proportion. The water-binder ratio was fixed at 0.30, and the compression levels were applied at 0.5, 1.5, and 3.0 MPa valu es to fabricate a porou s concrete specimen. The total porosity, compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural tensile strengths were tested and analyzed. When the compression level increased, the total porosity decreased, meanwhile the compressive, split tensile, and flexural tensile strengths increased. The total porosity of concrete using hybrid aggregate was lower and the strength was larger than those of concrete using single-type aggregate. Finally, the correlation between the total porosity, compressive, split tensile, and flexural tensile strengths of porous concrete were presented. The total porosity and strength characteristics showed an inversely proportional correlation.

In this paper, the thermal properties of porous concrete containing natural fine aggregates in bottom ash aggregates were analyzed. In this study, natural fine aggregates were used for bottom ash aggregates to understand the material properties of each aggregate and then used as an aggregate for porous concrete. A porous concrete specimen was manufactured by fixing the water-binder ratio at 0.25 and designating the compaction at 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 MPa. Unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity test were measured and discussed. As the compaction increased and the mixing ratio of natural fine aggregates increased, the unit weight and thermal conductivity increased, and the total void ratio decreased. In addition, the correlations between unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity of porous concrete with previous experimental data were presented and the correlation coefficient (R2) was also analyzed.

Among the index properties of granite and andesite, the relation between porosity and water content is highly correlated, but specific gravity, porosity and water content have loW relation with P wave velocity and their relationship showed dispersed zone type. With raising the temperature, Brazilian tensile strength was not changed remarkably, but decreased near $100^{\circ}C$. After the strength increased at $150^{\circ}C$, it decreased near $200^{\circ}C$ in granite. In andesite, however, the strength was increased up to $200^{\circ}C$, and then decreased. The variations of P wave velocity at each temperature zone are similar to those of tensile strength.

For a long time, evaluation of soundness and strength in concrete has been performed through ultrasonic velocity(UV), which is essential work in field assessment. Porosity in concrete is a major parameter indicating durability and strength, and UV passing concrete depends on porosity variation. In this paper, a modeling on UV through concrete is carried out considering porosity and the results are verified with those from test. Additionally UV in concrete under compression/tension loading condition is measured and UV modeling with loading condition is performed. Up to 50% of loading ratio, UV slightly increases and greatly drops at peak load in compression region, however it fluctuates in tensile region due to micro cracking in matrix. The proposed model shows a reasonable agreement with test results in control and compression region, and needs modification for tensile region considering micro cracks and local aggregate interlocking.
The purpose of this research was to investigate fluidization characteristics of three solid particles, correlations between voidage and superficial velocity. The inside diameter of a column did not affect the fraction void-superficial velocity relationship for fluidization systems which was obtained as follows: $\frac{u}{u_t}={\varepsilon}^{3.703}----Sea\;Sand$$\frac{u}{u_t}={\varepsilon}^{3.5665}----long\;Exchange$$\frac{u}{u_t}={\varepsilon}^{4.066}----GAC$ And the sphericial type media is good for fluidized systems as it maintains low voidage. Actually, if biofilm attached to media (bioparticle), the density became lower in fluidized bed biofilm reactor. Therefore, as the density of media become higher, it is easy to maintain fluidized beds.
