  • The experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of humidity on the cocoon quality, and 4, 000 lots of cocoon pruduced fot five years in Chin yang, Ha dong, Keo chang, San chung of Kyeong nam, and Sun san, Sang ju, Young poong, An dong of Kyeong buk were analyzed. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The reelability ration, the bave length, and raw silk ration were decreased with increasing the humidity in mounting time, and it was remarkably observed when the relative humidity was over 80%. 2. With increasing the reelability ration, the bave length, and raw silk ration were increased, and the longer the bave lenger the bave length was the higher raw silk ration obtained. 3. The average reelability ration for five years in autumn-rearing period was higher than that in spring-rearing period, but the bave length and raw silk ratio was on the contrary from the above. 4. The reelability ration of cocoon produced in the mountainous area was higher than that in the field area but the shorter the bave length, the raw silk ration had no significant difference between those.

  • Clonorchis sinearis is a liver fluke which is the most prevalent helminth of humans in Korea. The better diagnostic measure of clonorchiasis is required for its nationwide control program. The present study observed antigenic bands of C. sinensis and reacting immunoglobulins in serum of infected residents. Adult C. sinensis were recovered from experimentally infected rabbits and soluble crude extract of the worms was used as the antigen after supplementation of E-64, a cysteine proteinase inhibitor. SDS- PAGE of the crude antigen resolved more than 20 protein bands between 200 and 14 kDa. The sera of infected humans collected at an endemic village showed specific IgG and IgE antibodies but little IgM and IgA antibodies. The protein bands of 94, 80, 72, 68, 52, 47, 43, 37, 34, and 28-25 kDa strongly reacted with serum Ig(GMA) or IgG antibody and 64, 62, 52, 47,44, 34,28, and 26 kDa bands reacted with serum IgE antibody. However, the 94, 80, 72, 68, 64, 62, 52, 47, and 40 kDa bands of C. sinensis antigen were found non specific. The protein bands of 43, 34, and 28-25 kDa of C. sinensis are primary target molecules of further analysis.

  • Correlation between Songyi(Tricholoma matsutake, pine mushroom, matsutake) production and the annual pine tree growth in Korea was analyzed with 18 years data of the mushroom production in Sangju area and the annual ring-growth of pine trees at Mt Sogni in the area. The two parameters were not significantly related to each other(r=0.408). A possible reason of this low relationship is that September and October climate affected annual Songyi production through mushroom primordial formation, continued growth of the primordia, while May and June climate did the annual tree-ring growth. Songyi production at Mt. Wolak in Chungcheongbukdo peaked while the minimum daily air temperature ranged about $7^{\circ}C$ to $13^{\circ}C$ during the first week of October in 1999. These show that Songyi production variation is not a simple trend depending on the energy the pine trees have accumulated. Rather, controlling soil moisture and air temperature during Songyi fruiting season can be a significant management option for improving the mushroom production.

  • In this study, the soil characteristics are analyzed using the result of various soil tests as an object of the soil layer of natural slopes in landslides areas. Also, the relationship with landslides and interrelation with each soil properties are analyzed. The landslides in three areas with different geological condition are occurred due to heavy rainfall in same time. The geology of Jangheung area, Sangju area and Pohang area is gneiss, granite, and the tertiary sedimentary rock, respectively. However soil characteristics have a little differentiation to geological condition, the soils sampled from landslide area have higher proportion of fine particle and porosity, and lower density than those from non landslide area. In case of same geological condition, landslides are occurred in the terrain slope with high permeability. The permeability is mainly influenced by the soil characteristics such as particle size distribution, porosity, particle structure, and the geological origins such as weathering, sedimentary environment. The soil layer with high internal friction angle is more stable than that with low internal friction angle in all geological condition. The permeability is mainly influenced by effective particle size, coefficient of uniformity, coefficient of gradation, porosity, density and so on. Also, those have interrelation with each factor. These interrelations are similar in all study area. Meanwhile, in proportion as the void ratio and the porosity rises the permeability increases.
