  • Learning styles affect how students access and handle their task, so it is very important to understand how they study, when planning teaching-learning process, to enhance their potential to the maximum. In addition, in order to improve the quality of gifted education, there is a need to examine the curriculum and teaching-learning process which reflect learner characteristics. In this study, gifted student's preferred learning styles are investigated using questionnaires and learning style inventory. Also by analyzing the characteristics of the learners, it is hoped to get parents and teachers to understand the gifted who have various talents, and to support teaching programs for the gifted in order to develop their potential. This study shows that there are differences in the studying style between the gifted child and the average child. Namely, learner's physical and psychological environment can affect learning styles. Also there is a difference between the studying style which the gifted students prefer and the teaching style which teachers use most frequently. Programs for the gifted should be planned through better understanding of the characteristics of the learners.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore how high school physics teachers perceive and understand fundamental physical constants as well as how they explain them and what methods they currently use in class. This study developed a questionnaire survey to recognize physics teachers' level of understanding of fundamental physical constants, which were measured by many scientists and contributed the to generation and improvement of scientific theories. Those questionnaire surveys were conducted among 130 high school physics teachers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. Among them, 124 participated in the survey and six were interviewed. The content of the survey consists of three parts: (i) basic questions about teachers, (ii) questions to measure the teachers' understanding of fundamental physical constants, and (iii) questions about the educational use of fundamental physical constants. The survey was distributed via e-mail, and respondents submitted their responses via e-mail as well. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for 30 minutes each, and all interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed twice.

  • In order to quickly understand which changes of source codes have been made and to perform effective maintenance of a system, it is important to visualize the changed parts. Although there are many works for analyzing software changes, there are few works for visualizing both of the change types and change quantifications for Java based systems. In this paper, we propose a change analysis technique based on class diagram and provide a change visualization technique by using change quantification information. In order to check the structural changes in source codes, source codes are transformed to class diagrams by reverse engineering methods. On the class diagrams, the changes are analyzed and quantified by numbers. Based on the change quantification, the changes are visualized on the class diagram by color spectrum. By using visualization techniques, maintainers can easily recognize the code changes to reduce the cost and time of maintenance.

  • The main purpose of this study is to systematically classify words indicating pain in terms of their ranks in each subclass. This study is a part of developing a Korean Pain Measurement Tool. This study didnot include exploration of each word's dimension such as sensory or affective. Eighty three Korean words tentatively classified in 19 subclasses in previous study were used for this study. At least three to six words were included in each subclass and the words were randomly placed in which each subject indicates their rank of pain degree. One hundred and fifty nursing students and one hundred clinical nurses were requested to indicate the rank of each word. One hundred and sixteen students and eighty three nurses completed the ratings for analysis. The data were collected from June 1983 to July 1983. The data using ordinal scale were analyzed by Friedman ANOVA to test significant difference between rank means. All of pain words indicated significant rank mean difference in all of 19 subclasses. Some of the words were either cancelled or replaced by other words, or rearranged for their ranks. Subclasses of which words were cancelled were 1) Simple stimulating pain, 2) Punctuate pressure, 3) peripheral nerve pain, 4) radiation pain, 5) punishment-related pain, and 6) suffering-related pain. Subclasses of which words were replaced or rearranged were 1) incisive pressure, 2) constrictive pressure, 3) dull pain, 4) tract pain, 5) digestion-related pain and 6) fear-related pain. Four subclasses such as traction pressure, thermal, cavity pressure, and fatigue- elated pain indicated significant differences among rank means in each subclasses and showed no visible overlaps of the ranks among means. Further research is needed using high level measurement of pain degree of each word and more sophisticated analysis of the pain degrees. Three pain words which would be related to chemical stimulation were newly explored and included as a new subclass. Through this study, the total number of subclasses increases from 19 to 20 and the total number of Korean words in the scale decreases from 83 to 80.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to problem drinking in male workers according to occupational classes. Data were derived from the 2012 Korean National Survey on male workers. A total of 391 office workers, 707 manufacturing workers, and 309 service workers participated in this study. Data were analyzed using Rao-Scott $X^2$-test, simple and multiple logistic regressions. Problem drinking was defined as ${\geq}8$ points in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. The problem drinking rates were 45.1% in office workers, 39.1% in manufacturing, and 42.3% in service. In office workers, the factor related to problem drinking was only smoking. In manufacturing workers, the factors related to problem drinking were spouse, smoking and prevalence of Diabetes. In service workers, the factors related to problem drinking were age and smoking. Therefore, different intervention should be developed for each occupational class in order to manage the problem drinking in male workers.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to develop and validate Eating Behaviors Test form (EBT) for infants and young children, including eating behaviors of their parents and parental feeding practices. Methods: Draft version of EBT form was developed after a pretest on 83 mothers. It was consisted of 42 questions including 3 components; eating behavior of children, eating behavior of parents, and parental feeding practices. Using these questionnaires, the first survey was conducted on 320 infants and children, 1 to 6 year old, for exploratory factor analysis, and the second survey was collected on 731 infants and children for confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Exploratory factor analysis on 42 questions of EBT form resulted in 3 factor model for children's eating behavior, 3 factor model for parents' eating behavior, and 1 factor model for parental feeding practices. Three factors for children's eating behavior could be explained as follows; factor 1, pickiness (reliability ${\alpha}=0.89$; explanation of variance=27.79), factor 2, over activity (${\alpha}=0.80$, explanation of variance=16.51), and factor 3, irregularity (${\alpha}=0.59$, explanation of variance=10.01). Three factors for mother's eating behavior could be explained as follows; factor 1,irregularities (${\alpha}=0.73$, explanation of variance=21.73), factor 2, pickiness (${\alpha}=0.65$, explanation of variance= 20.16), and factor 3, permissiveness (${\alpha}=0.60$, explanation of variance=19.13). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed an acceptance fit for these models. Internal consistencies for these factors were above 0.6. Conclusions: Our results indicated that EBT form is a valid tool to measure comprehensive eating and feeding behaviors for infants and young children.
