The Evaluation of Mechanical Properties for Alumina Ceramics (알루미나 세라믹스의 기계적 특성 평가)

  • Mechanical properties(flexural strength hardness fracture toughness) of alumina ceramics were evaluated. Alumina products of four companies were selected and three of those were made in Korea and one of those was made in Japan. The large differences according to manufacturing companies had resulted from flexural strength and weibull modulus which had a wide ranges of 300 to 400 MPa and 5 to 15 respectively. Critical indenstation load which could be neglected the effect of elastic recovery was about 9.8N and Vickers' hardness were about 15 GPa. Fracture toughnesses were evaluated by IF and ISB method. It was more preferable to the average at one indentation load that fracture toughness were obtained from the slope of the relationship between indentation load and crack length in IF method and between indentation load and fracture load in ISB method and fracture toughness was about 4 MPa·m1/2.

A Strength Analysis of the Hull Gilder among the Rough Sea according to Ship Types (대파고 파랑중에서의 선체장도 해석에 관한 연주 - 선종에 따른 강도, 응답특성비교 -)

  • The ship sailing among waves suffers from the various wave loads that comes from its motion throughout its life. In the rationally-based design, the dynamic structural analysis is carried out using dynamic wave loads provided from the results of the ship motion calculation as the rigid body. This method is based on the linear theory assumed low wave height and small amplitude of motion. But at the rough sea condition, relatively high wave compared to the height ship's depth is induced the large ship motion, so configuration of the ship section below waterline changes rapidly at each time. This re-sults in a non-linear problem. Considering above situation we have already introduced the non-linear dynamic strength analysis method for the hull girder(refer vol. 29. No.4 November, 1992, Journal of SNAK). In this paper, estimation of the hull girder strength for various ship types such as tankers, containers and log carriers is carried out based on the introduced non-linear method. We expect that the results will be used as useful basic data for the es-timation of dynamic strength of ships in the rough sea.

A Study on the Small Punch Test for Fracture Strength Evaluation of CANDU Pressure Tube Embrittled by Hydrogen (수소취화된 CANDU 압력관 재료의 파괴강도 평가를 위한 SP시험에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of small punch(SP) test using miniaturized specimens as a method for fracture strength evaluation of CANDU pressure tube embrittled by hydrogen. According to the test results, the fracture strength evaluation as a function of hydrogen concentration at $-196^{\circ}C$ was much better than that at room temperature, as the difference of SP fracture energy(Esp) with hydrogen concentration was more significant at $-196^{\circ}C$ than at room temperature for the hydrogen concentration up to 300ppm-H. It was also observed that the peak of average AE energy, the cumulative average AE energy and the cumulative average AE energy per equivalent fracture, strain increased with the increase of hydrogen concentration. From the results of load-displacement behaviors, Esp behaviors, macro- and micro-SEM fractographs and AE test it has been concluded that the SP test method using miniaturized specimen($10mm{\times}10mm{\times}0.5mm$) will be a useful test method to evaluate the fracture strength for CANDU pressure tube embrittled by hydrogen.

Wood Quality and Strength Properties of Old Structural Members (목조건축 해체 고목재의 재질특성 및 강도성능)

  • It is necessary to assess wood quality and strength of the clear specimens from used members in old wooden structures for the reuse of old members on the same structure or a new structure. Wood species classification by microscope observation of each wood member that was used in truss cord and temple, and several physical and strength tests by the specification of present KS standards were conducted to compare with some references. From the comparison of strengths with references, Korean larch gives relatively better wood quality and mechanical properties than other wood species. No significant deterioration of cell wall was found by microscopic observation for the sound wood part that was selected visually. Tensile specimens with 3 mm in thickness on the middle span showed greater strength than 5 mm thick specimens, which explains that dimension of tensile specimen should be examined for evaluating precise tensile strength properties. Other tests, compression, shear, and bending, are adoptable for each strength properties. Test methods for the evaluation of basic strengths and fastener connections for old wood species should be further examined.

  • Epoxy matrix based composites were fabricated by adding SiC nano fillers. The interfacial properties of composites were varied with different shapes of SiC nano fillers. To investigate the shape effects on the interfacial properties, beta and whisker type SiC nano fillers were used for this evaluation. The dispersion states of nano SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were evaluated by capacitance measurements. FE-SEM was used to observe the fracture surface of different structures of SiC-epoxy nanocomposites and to investigate for reinforcement effect. Interfacial properties between carbon fiber and SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were also evaluated by ILSS (interlaminar shear strength) and IFSS (interfacial shear strength) tests. The interfacial adhesion of beta type nanocomposites was better than whisker type.

  • In this study, the high qualify recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system by the drying specific gravity separation method was evaluated. For the evaluation of the performance of the recycled aggregate, the engineering properties and durability of recycled aggregate has been tested. From the test results, the quality of recycled fing aggregates was improved by high quality recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system and satisfied with the quality standards of KS and JASS 5. Also, compressive and tensile strengths of recycled concrete show no critical difference caused by recycled fine aggregate replacement ratio. However, durability such as carbonation depth chloride ion penetration depth and drying shrinkage shows more deterioration than the concrete without recycled fine aggregate

  • This study presents reliability assessment of merchant ships with focus on hull girder ultimate limit state, taking into account the time-dependent effects of corrosion, fatigue cracking and local denting. Some considerations for establishing a reliability-based repair and maintenance scheme are also made so as to keep a ship's hull girder strength reliability at an acceptable level even later in life.

  • 각종 산업설비에서 발견되는 균열의 대부분은 임의의 형상을 갖는 삼차원 균열이므로 설비의 건전성 평가를 위하여 삼차원 균열에서의 응력강도계수를 정확히 구하는 문제는 많은 사람들의 관심의 대상이 되어왔다. 현재 삼차원 균열에 대한 연구는 타원형 균열과 같은 일부 비교적 간단한 형태의 균열에 대해서는 많은 결과가 발표된 바 있으나, 일반적인 형태의 균열에 대해서는 아직 연구가 미비한 실정이다. 따라서, 이러한 일반적인 형태의 삼차원 균열에 대한 해석의 필요성이 제기되어 왔다.(중략)

  • 최근 환경과 에너지에 대한 관심이 증대됨에 따라 차체의 경량화를 위한 고합금계 알루미늄 합금의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 5000계 알루미늄 합금은 비중이 낮을 뿐만 아니라 Mg의 첨가에 의해 높은 강도 및 성형성을 얻을 수 있기 때문에 자동차용 판재로 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 현재 사용되는 대부분의 알루미늄 합금판재는 DC주조법과 추가적인 압연공정으로 제조되기 때문에 경제성 문제와 낮은 냉각속도로 인한 금속학적인 문제를 갖는다. 그러나 DC주조법과는 달리 쌍롤 박판주조법은 용탕으로부터 직접 판재를 제조하기 때문에 경제적이며 효율적인 주조공정이다. 또한 냉각속도가 빠르기 때문에 비교적 주조편석이 적고 전반적인 미세조직이 균일하여 고합금계 알루미늄 합금 판재제조에 매우 유용하게 응용될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 쌍롤 박판주조법으로 고합금계 알루미늄 합금 판재를제조하고, 제조된 합금의 열간압연 및 열처리 조건에 따른 기계적 특성을 비교 및 평가하였다. 또한 미세조직 및 집합조직을 분석함으로써 고합금계 알루미늄 합금 판재의 실용화 가능성을 평가하였다.
