The Types of Nurses Perception of Whistle-Blowing;Q-Methodology (간호사의 내부고발 인식유형에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was to define structural subjectivity pattern of whistle-blowing of hospital nurses. Method: This study was conducted using Q-methodology in order to classify the types of perception to an whistle-blowing from the inside of the incumbent hospital nurses. Nineteen members, including hospital nurses, professors and students majoring in the nursing department made 47 statements about the insider's accusation after an in-depth interview about the statements. Forty incumbent hospital nurses were the participants for the Q-Methodology. The statement data was analyzed with QUANL PC Program and five different types were classified according to how the nurse had replied to the statements. Result: The first one is a Propeller type. The second one is a Denial type. The third type is a Patient Advocate type. The fourth one is a Anonymous type. The fifth is a Netizen type. Conclusion: this study as a momentum, a reasonable and constitutional legislation in the nurses organization should be established as soon as possible.

An Analysis of the Factors Determining Salary Level of Hospital (간호사의 임금수준 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the factors determining salary level of hospital. Methods: This study performed secondary analysis on the existing data. Data were collected from May 1, 2005 to September 30, 2005. Analysis of the results was carried out using SPSS win 12.0 program for t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression. Results: For the determinant factors on the level of nurse's salary, the R2 for this whole regression model was .72, indicating that approximately 72% of the variance in salary level of the nurses was accounted for by the linear combination of these three independent variables, the size of hospitals, the characteristics of a fund, and nursing delivery system. Conclusion: Salary is a major part of human resource management and is compensation for the labor of nurses and is a motive to nurses. Each hospital's salary needs to be more affordable to nurses.

Nurses' Work-family Boundary Management (간호사의 일-가정 경계선 관리)

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore how nurses manage the boundary for work-family balance. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews from February 1 to May 28, 2012. Participants were 13 married nurses with children. The constant comparative method was adapted for data analysis. Results: In this study, nurses' work-family boundary management had characteristics of integration, maintenance and control, but it was adjusted and modified over time as the order of priorities was rearranged according to changes in internal cognition and family support. Nurses strategically persuaded their families to understand their work and share housework in an effort to integrate work and family, while controlling them by managing working hours and time for themselves. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that nurses' work has an impact on family life due to heavy workload and insufficient time, however the work-family balance can be successfully maintained with the effective separation of the two areas.

A study on Burnout, Emotional labor, and Self-efficacy in Nurses (간호사의 소진과 감정노동 및 자기효능감에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of burn out, emotional labor and self-efficacy in nurses, and to identify predictors of burnout. Method: The participants were 268 nurses working in C university hospital in G city. Data were collected from May 1 to May 31, 2010, and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: The mean score per item for burnout was 3.13, the mean emotional labor score was 3.15, and the mean of self-efficacy score was 3.42. Burnout showed negative correlation with self-efficacy (r=-.339, p=.000), and showed positive correlation with emotional labor (r=.511, p=.000). Variables that predicted burnout were emotional labor, self-efficacy, gender, number of assigned patient per duty (37.8%). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate a need to develop programs for nurses to increase self-efficacy and to control the emotion, and the need for further studies to examine causal relationship among burn out, emotional labor and self-efficacy.

A Study on the Evaluation and it's Perspectives of Care Manager Curriculum for Elderly's Health and Welfare (일 대학 보건복지 특성화 교육과정의 평가와 향후 방향에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the care manager curriculum for elderly's health & welfare and exam it's perspectives. Method: A descriptive survey was used. four hundred eight students of S university and seventy seven professionals were participated for this study. The curriculums evaluated for the elderly's health and welfare was care managers. eight times Brainstormings were done with five faculty members of S university to exam the current curriculums and to guide new perspectives. Result: Brainstorming results are as follow: the best curriculum contents is NEWSTART, we need new role for elderly's health & welfare. Conclusion: Even though, care manager have been working for the elderly, their role focuses not the direct care but the management. Therefore we need new role to do direct care to the elderly.

Nurses' Experience of Practice in Nursing Homes (노인요양시설 간호사의 실무 경험)

  • Purpose: This article aimed to identify nurses' experience of practice in nursing homes. Method: Using phenomenological approach for qualitative research, the participants were 8 nurses who were working at nursing homse in C city. The data was analyzed by using phenomenological methodology by Colaizzi. Results: Five theme clusters were derived from the data. They were: burden (independent decision making in clinical situations, tension of as a multifunctional member); lowered self-esteem (exhaustion, relative self-evaluation is low, comparing with others); conflict (negative image of elderly, communication break with elderly family, monitoring of nursing home staff); worth (slight improvement of elderly health state, trust and recognition, intimacy); and self-reflection (need for knowledge extension, effort towards enhancing virtue, perception of importance in their health management). Conclusion: The results showed that nursing home nurses experienced negative aspects of various nursing practice, suggesting the ways to solve their negative experience.

  • For nursing as a science to establish a unique system of knowledge, nursing researchers should include the philosophical activities such as establish of nursing philosophy. For establish of philosophy nursing, the nature and realms and essential characteristics of nursing science should be made clear at first. The purpose of this study identify alienation and the situation of happen to alienation and Martin Buber Philosophy(I and Thou). Understanding of this concept should enlighten nurses to interaction and relationship problems between patients and nurse and thus lead to further toward enhancing these interaction and relationship. The alienation was serious problem in present society which was cultural, political, economical, mechanical, religious classified. The overcome of alienation in nursing situation was caring and interpersonal relationship based on Martin Buber philosophy. The essential philosophy of Martin Buber was "I and Thou" relationship. I and Thou relationship are consist of five characteristics ; 1)mutuality 2)directness 3)presentness 4)intensity 5)ineffability As health care technology becomes more sophisticated, there is a tendency to rely on monitors and machines to assess the patient's status. Therefore focus on the functioning and care of machine can result in less meaningful communication with patients. This study points to the need for health professional and patient relationship based on Martin Buber philosophy(I and Thou). This relationship may suggest that professional shoud have sincerity, concerning, respect and warm emotional toward their patients. Ultimately this study provide the basic information to contribute understanding of "I and Thou" relationship and nursing philosophy development in nursing education.

  • Today's health care environment is rapidly changing and nurse administrators' leadership styles need to identify in nursing organization to achieve organizational objectives. By Bass(1985), transformational leadership stimulates the subordinates to be creative and achieve organizational objectives and is related to job satisfaction, job involvement, productivity, and organizational commitment. Transformational leadership process consists of charisma, intellectual stimulation, individual consideration. The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of transformational leadership and personal characteristics on nurses' organizational commitment. The subjects for this study consisted of 594 nurse from 8 University Hospitals and General Hospitals. The data were collected by personal characteristics scale, transformational leadership scale, and organizational commitment scale. The factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used for the statistical method. The results of this study were found that (1) charisma dimension of transformational leadership has positive influence on nurses' organizational commitment; but another two dimensions(intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration) did not showed significant effect on organizational commitment (2) nurses' personal characteristic(internal locus of control) moderated the effect of transformational leadership on organizational commitment.

A Study of Health Status and Job Satisfaction of Nurses on Day Shift and Nurses on Night Shift (고정근무간호사와 교대근무간호사의 건강상태와 직무만족도에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study is conducted to compare and analyse the health status and job satisfaction of nurses. Method: The subjects were a group of 90 nurses on fixed day nurse and the other group of 100nurses on night nurse. The collected data were analysed by using the SPSS WIN(10.0) program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2-test$, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Result: There was a significant difference according to years in services. In nurses on day shift, there was a inverse correlation between the health status and job satisfaction. And in nurses on day shift, job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending on personality, satisfaction to pay, and current health status. In nurses on night shift, nurses' job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending satisfaction to pay. Conclusion: It was confirmed that health of nurses is greatly affected by shift work. so, it is very important to maintain and promote their health status in nurses on night shift. We must find out the factors that greatly affect health of nurses, and continuously make an effort to improve the working environment.

Experiences of Clinical Nurses Aged over 40 as Shift Workers (교대근무하는 40세 이상 경력간호사의 근무경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of clinical nurses over 40 years of age who were shift workers. Methods: Data were collected from in-depth interviews with 10 clinical nurses over 40 years of age who had at least 10 years of clinical experience and who worked in 5 acute care hospitals. The data were analyzed using Braun & Clark's thematic analysis. Results: One main theme, 3 themes, and 9 subthemes were derived. The main theme was "Sustaining a position still in conflict", and themes were as follows; "Being trained as a professional nurse", "Having unfavorable working conditions and damaged self-esteem", "Trying hard to get a sense of value as an experienced nurse" Conclusion: The results of this study show the issues of age and generational diversities in nurses in acute care hospitals. It is necessary to explore various ways to utilize the experience of older clinical nurses for the integrity of nursing organization and the development of the nursing profession.
