Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of intellectual capital in the relationship between social capital and organizational performance in hospital organizations. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 390 nurses from 3 general hospitals in Gwangju and Chonnam province. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey done from May 1 to 15, 2009. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchial multiple regression using the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: There was a significantly positive relationship between social capital, intellectual capital and organizational performance. Intellectual capital showed partial mediating effects between social capital and organizational performance. However, intellectual capital did not show moderating effects. Conclusion: Accumulated social capital increased intellectual capital and the increased intellectual capital increased organizational performance. This finding suggests that as a contribution to the improvement of organizational performance in hospitals, creation and accumulation of social capital and intellectual capital are very critical.

Purpose: This study was done to examine the relationship of job satisfaction and organizational commitment of perioperative nurses. Method: The subjects of this study were 500 perioperative nurses from 11 hospitals. The data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires from Sep. 19 to Sep. 27, 2009. Results: There was statistically significant relationship among the five variables. The analyses of covariance of these five variables revealed overall significant (p<.05). Stepwise linear multiple regression analyses were used to examine the influence of these five variables. Results indicated that the variables for verbal abuse (p<.01), workplace climate (p<.01), internal marketing (p<.001), and job transfer (p<.001) contributed significantly to the job satisfaction (adjusted R square=.426), while the verbal abuse (p<.01), internal marketing (p<.01), leadership style (p<.001) and workplace climate (p<.001) did to the organizational commitment (adjusted R square=.351). Canonical correlation analyses revealed that internal marketing and workplace climate contributed most significantly both to job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Conclusion: This study found that all these five nursing managerial factors were important influential on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment of perioperative nurses. Addressing these factors with further research will surely improve the commitment of these nurses and ultimately lead to better perioperative nursing care.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship and the importance of relevant variables among structure, process, and outcome dimensions of nursing department in hospitals. The subject for this study was the registered nurses(N=400) working in medical, intensive care, and surgical units at 5 general hospitals with more than 500beds in Chungnam and Chungbuk. The research design was cross-sectional correlation among the variables based on their self description. The survey instrument was based on eleven structured questionnaires. The data were collected from April 26 to May 26, 1999. The SPSS/PC+ program and LISREL 8.12a program were used to analyze the data. Based on the data collected, the following results were obtained. The relationship among structural, procedural, and outcome dimensions 1. Structural dimension had a relationship with procedural dimension relating to decision-making of caregiving and working conditions, in particular, participation of the problem identification. 2. The extent of participation in decision-making had a relationship with organizational commitment and group effectiveness through the selection process among the total decision-making processes. 3. The structural dimension had a large direct effect rather than indirect effect through decision making processes on organizational commitment and group effectiveness. The relationship of structure, process, outcome dimensions was partially supported by this study. The information obtained from surveys in the field form the basis for the following recommendations for improving organizational effectiveness with in the nursing department in an hospitals. 1) Establishment of decentralized structure, environment, and culture in organizational settings would be desirable so that their members may actively participate in decision-making process. 2) Continuous education and training of nurses with theoretical Knowledge and skill of decision making, practical knowledge, and upright role perception should be highly emphasized for persons in nursing schools and in on-the-job training.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is, by investigating organizational characteristics, types of nursing organizational culture and team effectiveness in ICU, to ascertain the type of nursing organizational culture and the organizational characteristic that can improve the team effectiveness. Method: The research targeted 427 nurses from 33 ICUs of 14 general hospitals which have more than 250 beds and the data were gathered by using self-report questionnaires from April 10, 2003 to April 24, 2003. For this research, the following tools were used; the tool for measuring organizational characteristics and organizational cultures and the tool for measuring team effectiveness. Result: The most significant nursing organizational characteristic in ICU is the centralization. The organizational culture in ICU is generally rank-oriented culture. There was a significant difference (p<.01) in four types of organizational cultures; relation-oriented, innovation-oriented, rank-oriented and task-oriented. Verifying influence power of organizational cultures upon team effectiveness of ICU, relation-oriented culture had 49.2% of an influence upon team effectiveness, innovation- oriented and relation-oriented culture had 60.4% of an influence, and rank-oriented, innovation-oriented and relation-oriented culture had 61.2% of an influence. The organizational culture profiles according to the types of nursing organizational cultures in 33 ICUs were found by a cluster analysis. They were classified into five culture profiles; strong balance culture profile, weak balance culture profile, innovation-oriented and task-oriened culture profile, strong relation culture profile and strong rank culture profile(p<0.5). According to me organizational culture profiles, a significant difference of team effectivenesses(coworker satisfaction, team performance perception, team satisfaction and team commitment) was found(p<.01). The strong balance culture profile had the best team effectivenesses. Conclusion: For nursing culture management, a nursing administrator should identify the relevant nursing organizational culture at first by utilizing an innovative team-leader. After identifying the organizational culture, the administrator should make strategic plans and practices that can distinguish good organizational cultures to be expanded from ones to be sublated so that a strong balance culture can be developed.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the double mediating effect of effect of diversity sensitivity orientation and positive nursing organizational culture between diversity management and organizational commitment. Methods: Participants were 245 nurses working in six tertiary hospitals located in 3 different regions. Data collection was conducted from February 13, 2023 to March 6, 2023 through online self-reported questionnaire. The data were analyzed by IBM SPSS Statistics 27 and SPSS PROCESS Macro 4.2 program. Results: The direct effect of diversity management on organizational commitment was significant (β = .21, p < .001). The indirect effect of diversity management on organization commitment was .34 (95% confidence interval [CI] = .23~.47). The double mediating effect of diversity sensitivity orientation and positive nursing organizational culture in the relationship between diversity management and organizational commitment was .02 (95% CI = .00~.05). Conclusion: Diversity sensitivity orientation and positive nursing organizational culture show double mediating effect on the relationship between diversity management and organizational commitment. Education program and human resource management strategy for enhancing diversity management, diversity sensitivity orientation and positive nursing organizational culture should be provided to improve organizational commitment, and which are needed active support of the association and nursing organization.

The purposes of this study is to identify the relationship between coping strategies and the nursing organizational effectiveness in hospital nurses and to provide the basic data concerning the development of job stress management program for hospital nurses. The subjects showed that the twenties and single nurses who had worked under one year used more frequently 'the avoid and the symptom coping strategies' better than 'the control'. Also, they showed significantly lower satisfaction and higher 'the intent to leave' than others. The main factors that affected the satisfaction and 'the intent to leave' were age and the control coping strategies.In conclusion, this study showed that the staff nurses who were twenties, single, and new employed used more frequently 'the avoid and symptom management coping strategies' than others. Also they showed lower satisfaction and higher 'the intent to leave' than others. So Age and the control coping strategies should be considered in the development of staff nurses' stress management program. Especially, it was needed to focused on the nurses who were twenties, single, and new employed.

Purpose : This study was designed to compare importance of the types of leadership-followership combination in the nursing organization. Method : The subjects of this study were nurses working in the hospital. They were recruited 490 from three medical centers. Data were collected by using self-reported questionnaires from April 8th to 18th, 2002. Result : The results were as follows; 1) It appeared that the most important type of leadership-followership combination for job satisfaction in the nursing organization was the transformational leadership-effective follower, however the most important type of leadership-followership combination for organizational commitment was the transformational leadership-the conformist. 2) According to analysis of partial correlational coefficient to compare the importance of variables, the leadership-followership combination type was the more important than other variables: education, age, duration of job, religion, marriage. Conclusion : With these findings, it was found that the most proper type of leadership-followership combination in nursing organization was the transformational leadership-effective follower for job satisfaction and the transformational leadership-the conformist for organizational commitment. So these results will be used to develop a more effective staffing management strategies to improve the effectiveness of nursing organization.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the performance, autonomy, and organizational commitment of the preceptors. Methods : The sample consisted of 29 nurses in one university hospital. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey of performance, autonomy, empowerment, and organizational commitment conducted from May through August. 30, 2003. The subjects accepted preceptor training for 26 hours, which was conducted by a researcher. The contents of the training program consisted of an introduction to preceptorship, nursing organization, teaching and learning methods, interpersonal relationships, organizational management, self management, and basic nursing practice. Analysis was performed by SPSS for percentile, mean, standard deviation, and correlation using the paired t-test. Results : Our study results showed that performance, autonomy, empowerment, and organizational commitment were significantly altered by training. After education for preceptors, performance, autonomy, empowerment, and organizational commitment were all enhanced. Performance was related with empowerment, and not with autonomy. Conclusion : This study suggests that the application of preceptorship as a nursing management intervention can benefit organizational efficiency.

Purpose: The objective of this research is to explore the degree of conflict of nurses, and the relationships among conflict, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment for providing effective management of nurses. Methods: The research was conducted from July 1 to 31, 2006, with a survey of 280 nurses at seven general hospitals in Seoul. The survey tools were used Rizzo et al(1970)' tool for role conflict and role ambiguity Park(1988)'s tool for vertical conflict, and horizontal conflict, Park-Yoon's tool for job satisfaction(1992) and Mowday et al(1979) for organizational commitment. The acquired data were analyzed with SPSS using descriptive methods, t-test, ANOVA, LSD, Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Overall conflict of nurses showed 3.00 .Job satisfaction of nurses revealed 3.12, and organizational commitment showed 3.34. The relationships between conflict and job satisfaction showed -65.6%. The relationships between conflict and organizational commitment revealed -56.2%. Conclusion: Conflict management is important factor of management for increasing job satisfaction and organizational commitment. It is needed that orientation and education program of detailed job description for nurses.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to identity the effects of distributive justice and procedural justice on job satisfaction and organizational commitment in hospital personnels. Method: The subjects were 181 employee who were working at 4 hospitals in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. Data was collected using structured questionnaire from Oct 4 to 24, 2007. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 12.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression. Result: The mean score of distributive justice was 3.24, procedural justice was 3.05, job satisfaction was 2.73 and organizational commitment was 2.65. The distributive justice(37.5%) and gender(1.6%) explained 39.1% of the variables in the job satisfaction. The organizational commitment was significantly influenced by distributive justice(27.8%), age(8.9%), procedural justice(2.8%) and gender(2.4%). These factors explained 41.8% of the variables in the organizational commitment. Conclusion: The distributive justice is the most important factor in promoting job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Therefore, It is necessary to operate proper compensation system based on fair performance evaluation of workers in hospital.
